《Looed and Lost You 》_Chapter Seventeen: We don't bite...much_

The next morning I woke up to find Loki wasn't in the bed next to mine. I sat up and looked around to find he wasn't there. "Loki?" I called. No answer. I got out of bed and stretched before I walked over to the bathroom and saw he wasn't there either.
"Loki?" I called again. When he didn't show up or answer I got worried. "He's probably just...doing whatever he normally does," I said to myself.
I got changed into a red flannel with ripped jeans and my brown boots. I grabbed my phone out of my jacket pocket and looked through to see if I had any messages. I didn't. "It's alive!" I turned to see Loki standing there with two white bags full of food and coffee.
"Where were you?" I asked putting my phone down. "I went to get breakfast." He said as I sat down at the table with a sigh. "Did you worry about me?" He asked walking over. "What? No." I said as he handed me the coffee.
"Aww, you did. I knew you liked me." I rolled my eyes with a smile as I took a sip of my drink. "Sure. What did you get?" I asked as he sat down.
"Well for the little lady, a chocolate chip muffin, and an egg, bacon, cheese sandwich form that one cafe you like." He said handing me one of the bags.
"What'd you get?" I asked as I took my food out. He dumped the food out of his bag.
"Cinnabons." He said opening the container they were in. I nodded and unwrapped my sandwich. "Hey, when we get back to the house do you think you could teach me how to use my powers to change my clothes."
"Oh yeah! We could do it right now." I looked over to find him wiggling his eyebrows. "Not what I meant," I said with an eye roll.
"I forgot. We need your purity to lure the monsters out of their cave." He said eating one of the mini cinnabons. My cheeks turned a light red as I narrowed my eyes at him. "Just to let you know I'm quite proud I've been able to keep it this long."
I took a bite out of my sandwich. "No. I understand. It is something to be proud of,"
"Than-"
"For someone who's fifteen." I punched Loki in the shoulder. "Shut up."
When we were done eating our breakfast we headed over to Scout room. I knocked on the door and a few seconds later Scout opened the door. "Cansas..." Scout said looking to Loki and then back to me with a smile. "Come in."
We walked in and Scout shut the door behind us. "Okay, so what the game plan?" I asked turning to look at her.
"Game plan is you'll go in first. Try to get them as far away from the cave as you can. Loki, you'll go in there and free them," Loki cut her off.
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not?" Scout asked him as she placed a bag on the table. "Well...me and Athena...kind of hit it off a few summers ago." I looked over at him.
"Really? You're her type?"
"I-Hey! All the chicks dig me." I crossed my arms.
"Sure they do."
"Whatever. This isn't important. I'm sure she'll be more than happy to let you save her." Scout said trying to continue on with the plan. "Anyway. I'll then come in and help you kill them, Cansas."

"What happens if they don't follow me?"
"Well, then we'll have to think of a different plan on the spot." She said with a smile and then placed a huge sword on the table.
"Dear god is that his sword?" I asked walking over to her.
"Yep. Pretty cool huh?"
"Oh yeah," I said looking over the bright silver sword. "Um...one question," I said looking up at Scout.
"How am I supposed to kill them when I don't have anything that can?" Scout opened her bag and dug out daggers made of the same silver the sword was.
"Got these off of him too." She said handing me one and then handed one to Loki.
"Does everyone have the plan?" We both nodded and she smiled. "Alright. Let's go." She said putting her bag around her shoulder and picking up the sword. We all walked out of the room and into Scout's car.
She drove until we were near the outskirts of the nearest town. We all hopped out. "Okay, the cave isn't far into the woods. If anything goes wrong shout. Will all be able to hear it." Scout said taking the sword out of the sheath.
"Cansas, Loki. Go in first. I'll be following close behind. And whatever you do. Don't look them right in the eyes. It's how they turn you to stone."
"You never told us that!" Loki said. "Well, it was implied. Go." She said pointing to the woods. Loki and I made our way into the woods. When we came to the spot were the cave lay, the tree blocked out the sun. We hide behind a rock.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Loki asked me. I looked over to him and nodded. "I'll be fine. I've been doing this for my whole life. Don't let Athena get to you. I already called dibs." I said before I rush out from behind the rock.
I put the dagger in my jacket pocket as I walked in front of the cave. "Help! Somebody, please help me! I'm lost!" I shouted. The sound of hissing was heard and at the entrance of the cave, I could see a snake tail slither back into the shadows.
"How about you come right here little girl...we can help you..." A voice hissed from inside the cave.
"Um...I'm okay...maybe if you could come over and help. Or just point me in the right direction and I'll just be on my way." The creature hissed some more and another voice spoke.
"Oh yes. We can come join you in the sunlight." The hissing became louder and I waited for them to jump out of the cave.
When they did I looked to the ground. But not before I got a look at them. They were two larger than normal snake ladies. One was red and black while the other was white and yellow. They didn't have any legs and instead of hair, they had thousands of snakes.
"Oh, aren't you a pretty one." The first voice said slithering over to me. "Oh yes. She smells delicious as well!" The other chuckle.
"Look up pretty girl. We won't bite...yet." The first hissed. "Only if you can catch me," I said sprinting off toward the edge of the forest. "Oh, I just love it when they run!" The snake lady said.

I watched as Cansas ran off. The gorgons stayed back a while and laughed. "Come sister we must get her!" The second Gorgon, who name was Stheno, said with a crazy laugh. Her red snakes seemed to laugh with her.

"One of us must stay here and guard our prisoners. She could have been a hunter. There could be more with her." The first one, named Euryale, said crossing her white and yellow arms.
"Too bad for you! I'll save you half!" Stheno hissed and then slithered off after Cansas. I looked over and saw Cansas's angel watching this happen. I rushed over behind him.
"Well, that's not how this was supposed to go," I said looking over the rock.
"And it was supposed to go the way you thought?"
"Shut up. New plan. You go after Stheno and help Cansas kill her. She's the one you want to look out for so be careful. I'll deal with Euryale." I said as she slithered back into her cave. Her angel nodded and in the blink of an eye, he disappeared. I stood up and ran over to the cave. I stopped at the entrance and looked in.
Euryale curled up in front of the gods she had kidnapped. But instead of there only being two. There was four. A brown-haired woman with glasses who I knew as Athena. A white horse with huge wings, Pegasus. And then a red-haired woman and a light brown haired man who I didn't know. Quietly I walked in staying along the walls.
The gorgon sniffed the air and smiled widely. "I knew she had friends." I cursed under my breath and ran over to a nearby rock.
"No need to be shy. Come on. We can play together." Euryale said sniffing the air again and slithering closer to me. I took a deep breath and waited for her to get close enough.
When she was in front of the rock I jumped out and run behind her. "Ah...there you are." She said turning around but I went behind her again.
"Come now." She said making a grab for me. I swung my sword at her hand and it chopped it off. She reared back and held her arm close to her chest. The snakes on the top of her head hissed at me.
"Where did you get that!?" She shouted slithering over to me with inhuman speed.
I went to dodge out of the way but she picked me up with her left hand making me drop the sword. I closed my eyes tight as she brought me close to her face. "I'll make your death slow for that mortal."
One of her many snakes the bite me on the shoulder causing me to cry out. "Yes scream!" She chucked. Quickly I let my dagger drop into my hand and I stabbed her in the eyes. She let go of me and I fell to the ground which knocked the wind out of me. The gorgon put her hand over her eyes as she fell back with a loud thud.
"I will kill you!" She hissed. Picking up my sword I whipped the blood off my lip.
"I don't think that will happen," I said walking over to her. She went to claw at me but I chopped her last remaining hand off. She screamed in pain and rolled over. When I got close enough I rose my sword and brought it down fast.
The gorgon screams stopped and her head rolled away from her body. With a great huff, I walked over to the gods.
"Your hurt, Scout. Unbind me and I will heal you." Athena said. I looked to the bite mark which was now purple in color and was starting to hurt.
"Yeah, if you could that would be great," I said cropping the chains off her and the others.
"Who are they?" I asked as Athena rubbed the chain marks.
"My Queen Hera and the messenger of the gods Hermes." She said walking over to me.
"How did they end up here?" I asked as she kissed my forehead and my wounds healed.
"They came to save us."
"Well that worked out great for them didn't it?" I asked with a chuckle. As we walked out of the cave I turned to Athena.
"You slept with Loki?"
****
I ran through the woods the sound of crazy laughter followed me. "Candy! Up here!" I stopped running and looked up to find Loki in a tree. "What are you doing?!" I asked as Loki snapped his fingers and I was up the tree with him as well.
"The other gorgon stayed behind. Scout told me to help you with this crazy one."
"Alright. Here she comes." I said as the huge Gorgon slithered our way. She stopped and looked around.
"I know you're still here girl." She said with a chuckle. "I have an idea," I said as the Gorgon turned around. I jumped out of the tree and onto her shoulders.
"Cansas!" Loki shouted. The gorgon twirled around crazily. "Get off!" The snakes on her head kept trying to reach me. Until one did. It bit me right on my left arm.
"Son of a bitch!" I shouted and slid down her back a bit so I was out of there reach. I took the dagger out with my wounded arm and stabbed her right in the back. The gorgon screamed out.
"GET OFF!"
"Alright," I said sliding down her back. As I did that the dagger was dragged down the center of her back. When I hit the ground the gorgon hissed in pain.
"I'll kill you for that!" She shouted as blood rained down.
"No, you won't," Loki said appearing on her shoulder. And before she could do anything about it he slit the gorgons throat sending her flying into the ground with a loud thud. "Loki!" I shouted and ran over to the dead gorgon.
"I'm right here sugar." I turned around and found Loki standing there.
I ran back over and attacked him in a hug. "Are you alright?" I asked looking up at him.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be." I smiled and kissed him on the cheek. All of a sudden I felt very dizzy and I had to sit down.
"Cansas! Cansas whats wrong?" Loki asked kneeling down next to me. "I-I..." My vision started to turn dark as I looked up at him. "Cansas!" He shouted as my world turned black and I was wrapped in the warm black blanket of death.
****
"Cansas!" I shouted as she fell limp in my arms. I looked around and found a reaper stood nearby.
"You can't save her Gabriel." He said walking over. "Don't move any closer," I growled making the reaper stop. "It's her time Gabriel. You must respect that. This little game you're playing won't help anything. Let me take her to Heaven." He said walking over to me. I looked down at Cansas. Her face pale and her body cold.
"You know as well as I, she can't go to Heaven. She can't even go to Hell!" I shouted bring her close to my chest. "Bring her back," I shouted. The reaper shook his head.
"I can not do that Gabriel. It goes against-"
"Does it look like I give a crap. You know I can't bring her back. I was too slow! She's too far gone now!" I said staring daggers at the reaper.
"Gabriel-"
"Now! Or I'll kill you." The reaper crossed his arms.
"Someone will take my place-" I growled and placed Cansas on the ground gently before standing up fast. I grabbed the reaper by the collar of his shirt and pinned him to a tree.
"Was I asking? Do it." I commend making the reaper sallow the lump in his throat.
"I'll see what I can do. But know this will come back to bite you later." He said before he disappeared. I walked back over to Cansas and sat back down. I picked her back up and cradled her in my arms. After a few minutes, her wounds healed and the color came back to her face.
"Dear mother of God!"

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: Dungeons are Bad Business (DABB) is a slow burn slice-of-life dungeon core litRPG citybuilder that's focused on the day to day experience of running a dungeon. There will be some action, but it won't be the focus of the story and Vee and his friends will usually overcome their problems with their minds and their pocketbooks instead of their weapons. Since I'm participating in the writeathon, I will probably be uploading chapters almost daily for the duration of the event. Thanks for reading!
