Calliope stands by the van with Sam, Castiel and Bobby, as Dean closes the trunk of the Impala, "All right, well, good luck stopping the whole zombie apocalypse" Dean says to them.
"Yeah, good luck killing Death" Sam says to him. "Remember when we used to just hunt wendigos?" Sam asks him. "How simple things were?"
"Not really" Dean tells him.
"Well, umm" Sam says as he reaches into his pocket and takes out the demon killing knife, "you might need this" he says going to hand it to Dean.
"Keep it, Dean's covered" Crowley suddenly appears saying as he hands Dean a scythe, "Death's own. Kills, golly, demons and angels and reapers and, rumor has it, the very thing itself" he explains.
"How did you get that?" Castiel asks him.
"Hello, king of the crossroads" Crowley says to him, "So shall we?" he says as he then looks at Bobby, "Bobby, you just gonna sit there" he says to him.
"No, I'm gonna riverdance" Bobby remarks.
"I suppose if you wanna impress the ladies. Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, really wasted that crossroads deal. Fact, you get more if you phrase it properly. So I took the liberty of adding a teeny little sub-A clause on your behalf" Crowley says and the boys and Calliope look at him. "What can I say? I'm an altruist. Just gonna sit there" he says looking at Bobby again. They all look at Bobby, as he takes a moment, then moves hie right foot, before moving his left. Bobby then stands up from the chair, now being able to walk again.
"Son of a bitch" Bobby says.
"Yes, I know. Completely worth your soul. I'm a hell of a guy" Crowley says.
"Thanks" Bobby then says to him.
"This is getting maudlin. Can we go?" Crowley says to them.
The three of them still look at Bobby, smiling as he was no longer wheelchair bound. As Sam, Bobby and Castiel start getting into the van, Calliope turns to look at Dean.
"Be safe okay, and promise to come back to me in one piece" she says to him.
"You promise the same" he says to her as they then kiss one another good-bye.
Calliope sat in the back of the van with Castiel, as Sam tells Cass about his ridiculous plan to jump, "Yes to Lucifer, then jump in the hole. It's an interesting plan" the angel says.
"That's a word for it" Bobby comments and Calliope just scoffs.
"So go ahead and tell me it's the worst plan you ever heard" Sam then says to Castiel.
"Of course, I am happy to say that if that's what you wanna hear. But it's not what I think" he tells Sam.
"Really?" Sam asks.
"You and Dean have a habit of exceeding my expectations. He resisted Michael, maybe you could resist Lucifer. But there are things that you would need to know." Castiel then says.
"Like?" Sam asks.
"Michael has found another vessel" Castiel says.
"What?" Both Sam and Calliope say to him.
"It's your brother Adam" he tells them, "You must have considered it"
"Yeah, we were trying not to" Sam remarks.
"Sam, if you say yes to Lucifer and then fail...this fight will happen...and the collateral...it'll be immense. There's also the demon blood" Castiel says to them.
"What? What are you talking about?" Sam asks.
"To take in Lucifer, it would be more than you've ever drunk" Castiel tells him.
"But why?" Sam asks.
"It strengthens the vessel. Keeps it from exploding" the angel says.

"But the guy he's in now-"Sam says.
"Is drinking gallons" Castiel informs him.
"And how is that not the worst plan you ever heard?" Bobby remarks as Castiel doesn't say a word.
They arrive at the pharmaceutical warehouse, and start doing surveillance, "Yep, they're loading up hotshots of Croatoan in the trucks" Bobby says, "Okay, first truck don't leave for an hour. We get in, we plant the C-4 every 25 feet then we pull the fire alarm"
"That truck is leaving" Castiel then says and they see the truck.
"Balls, okay new plan" Bobby says and they make a new plan. Castiel takes off after the truck that was leaving as the other three make their way to the building. They get there just as the final warehouse door was being closed.
"Come on, side door" Calliope says as they can start to hear people screaming inside. They get to the door and see that it's locked, "Get back" Calliope tells the people on the other side, as she then uses her powers to break the lock and slam it open, "Go, go" they tell the people inside and they all run out. As then enter the warehouse, they can hear groaning coming from ahead. Turning the corner they see a group of workers, who all see them. Looking at them, Sam, Calliope and Booby see that they are all infected. The workers start running at the three of them, and they all start shooting. After a moment, the workers are all dead, when they hear a woman screaming.
"There's still people here" Sam says.
"Sam, no" Bobby says as he starts to leave.
"Wait here" Sam says as he hands Bobby the demon knife.
"Damn" Bobby says as he takes the knife.
"I'll go with him" Calliope says.
"No, you will stay here" Sam tells her, "you get killed Dean will kill me" he tells her as he then takes off. Bobby and Calliope stay there keeping an eye out for anyone else that was possessed or infected. When they hear a noise behind them, they see a demon in a guard and Bobby stabs him. They then hear gunfire up ahead, and then movement coming their way. Holding their guns out they see it's Sam with two more employees. "Go, go" he says to the people and they run out. As Sam then turns back getting ready to continue taking down anyone else, as they hear more gunfire, Calliope and Bobby share a very worried look.
As they take down more demons, Sam comes running toward them once more, with more people, "Go, go" he tells them and they run out. "All clear" Sam says to Bobby and Calliope.
"Sam!" Bobby shouts as a man comes out of nowhere and knocks Sam down. As Calliope and Bobby go to shoot the man, they both see that they are out of ammo. As Calliope goes to use her powers to get the man off Sam, there is a gun shot and they see Castiel.
"Actually, these things can be useful" Castiel says.
"Can we commit our act of domestic terrorism already? Let's go" Bobby says as they get ready to set all the C-4.
Meanwhile Dean and Crowley have found Death, and Dean enters the restaurant, the scythe in his hand, as he sees all the patreons in the restaurant are dead. Suddenly the scythe in his hand starts burning, and he has to drop it on the ground.
"Thanks for returning that" he then heard who he assumes to be Death saying. As Dean looks down he sees the scythe gone and now on the table beside Death, "Join me, Dean. The pizza's delicious" Death says. Dean then takes a moment, as he very slowly steps forward, going to the table, where he looks at Death who was cutting into a slice of pizza. "Sir down" he tells Dean, and Dean very slowly sits down opposite Death.

"Took you long enough to find me. I've been wanting to talk to you" Death says to him.
"I gotta say, mixed feelings about that" Dean says back, "So is this part where--? Ahem, where you kill me?" Dean says to him.
Death looks up at Dean, "You have an inflated sense of your importance. To a think like me, a think like you, well—" Death says taking a sip of his drink, "Think how you'd feel if a bacterium sat at your table..and started to get snarky" Death says and Dean just stares at him. "This is one little planet in one tiny solar system in a galaxy that's barely out of its diapers. I'm old, Dean, very old. So I invite you to contemplate how insignificant I find you" Death says as he takes a slice of deep dish pizza and places it on the plate in front of Dean. "Eat" Death tells Dean. Dean looks at Death then at the food, before he slowly turns the plate around and starts cutting into it. He then very slowly places a bite on his fork and raises it to his mouth and eats it. "Good, isn't it" Death says as Dean looks at him.
Death starts eating again, "Well, I gotta asks" Dean says to him, "How old are you?"
"As old as God, maybe older. Neither of us can remember anymore. Life, death, chicken, egg. Regardless, at the end, I'll reap him too." Death says to Death.
"God?" Dean asks. "You'll reap God?"
"Oh, yes. God will die too, Dean" Death tells Dean.
"Well, this is way above my pay grade" Dean says.
"Just a bit" Death remarks.
"So then why am I still breathing.....sitting here with you? What do you want?" Dean asks.
"The leash around my neck off" Death says and Dean looks at him confused, "Lucifer has me bound to him. Some unseemly little spell. He has me where he wants, when he wants. That's why I couldn't go to you. I had to wait for you to catch up. He made me his weapon. Hurricanes, floods, raising the dead. I'm more powerful than you can process...and I'm enslaved to a bratty child having a tantrum." Death explains to Dean.
"And you think I can unbind you?" Dean asks.
"There's your ridiculous bravado again. Of course, you can't. But you can help me take the bullets out of Lucifer's gun." Death says as he places his fork down, then leans forward bringing his hand up. "I understand you want this" he says indicating to the ring on his finger.
Dean looks at it, "Yeah" he says.
"I'm inclined to give it to you" Death says.
"To give it to me?" Dean asks him.
"That's what I said" Death says.
"But what about Chicago?" Dean asks.
"I suppose it can stay, I like the pizza" Death says as he takes the ring off, "there are conditions"
"Okay, like?" Dean asks.
"You have to do whatever it takes to put Lucifer in his cell" Death tells him.
"Of course" Dean says.
"Whatever it takes" Death says.
"That's the plan" Dean says.
"No, no plan, not yet. Your brother. He's the one that can stop Lucifer. The only one" Death says.
"You think-?" Dean starts to say.
"I know. So I need a promise. Your gonna let your brother jump right into that fiery pit" Death says going to hand Dean the ring, "Well, do I have your word?"
Dean looks at the ring for a moment, then at Death, "Okay, yeah, yes" he says as he reaches out for the ring.
Death goes to place the ring in his hand, "That had better be 'yes', Dean. You know you can't cheat death" he tells Dean as he drops the ring in Dean's hand. "Now would you like the instruction manual?" Death asks him.
The next day Calliope sits outside with Dean at one of the scarpyard work benches as Dean looks at Death's ring before placing it down. They watch as the rings all gather together, like they are being pulled to one another. They then hear a noise and looking over they see Bobby walking to them with three beers in his hands. "How'd it go at the Rockettes audition?" Dean jokes with him.
"High kicks, fair. Boobs need work" Bobby jokes, "I walked up and down stairs all night for no damn reason. I'm sore" he laughs, "feels so good, I'm scared it's a dream. But then I remember that the world's dying bloody, so drink" Bobby says passing them both a beer and they take it.
"Check it out" Dean then says to Bobby, as he shows him what the rings do.
"Mm" Bobby says reacting at seeing what they do, he then reaches for them, "No" he says to himself. "So, Death told you how to operate those? The whole deal?" Bobby asks Dean.
"Yeah, it's nuts" Dean says as he picks the rings up. "Of course, I got bigger problems"
"Really, like?" Bobby asks.
"What do you think Death does to people who lie to his face?" Dean asks.
"Nothing good" Bobby says.
"Yeah" Dean says.
"What'd you say?" Bobby asks.
"That I was cool with Sam driving the bus on the whole Lucifer plan" Dean says to him.
"So, Death thinks Sam ought to say yes, huh?" Bobby asks.
"I don't know, yeah" Dean says to him.
"Hmm" Bobby says.
"But of course he'd say that. He works for Lucifer" Dean says.
"Yeah but you told us he said he was doing it against his will" Calliope says as she takes a sip of her beer.
"Well, I'd say take his sob story with a fat grain of salt. I mean, he is Death" Dean says.
"Exactly, he's Death. Think of the kind of bird's-eye view" Bobby says to Dean.
"Seriously?" Dean asks.
"I'm just saying" Bobby says.
"Well don't What happened to you being against this?" Dean says.
"Look, I'm not saying Sam ain't an ass-full of character defects. But—" Bobby says.
"But, what?" Dean asks.
Bobby sighs, "Back at Niveus I watched that kid pull one civilian our after another. He must've saved 10 people. Never stopped, never slowed down. We're hard on him, Dean. We've always been. But in the meantime...he's been running into burning buildings since he was, what 12?" Bobby says.
"Pretty much" Dean remarks.
"Look, Sam's got a darkness in him. I'm not saying he don't. But he's got a hell of a lot of good in him too." Bobby says.
"I know" Dean says.
"Then you know Sam will beat the devil or die trying. That's the best we could ask for. So I gotta ask, Dean. What exactly are you afraid of? Losing? Or losing your brother?" Bobby says to Dean and he just looks at him.

MANTIS: On Hiatus
Two young adults who were childhood friends are killed amidst a pandemic worse than our own. After many years apart, Rihelah was on her way to see Michael, hoping to rekindle their friendship on the day they would both lose their lives. The pair are unwittingly selected to represent Earth in a test set forth by godlike beings who are intrigued that our world gave rise to complex life without having been intentionally seeded by their kind. Michael and Rihelah are reincarnated as predatory insects upon a distant planet called Edon. Elves, Dwarves, Dragons and their kin, Goblins, Ogres, Humans, Lizardfolk, Orcs, and sapient arthropods known as Enkelyn all inhabit this beautiful world touched by magic. The tiny mantids must survive terrified and very much alone upon arrival, while neither is aware that the other has also been reincarnated upon the same island. Naked in their new chitinous exoskeletons, they must now brave the terrors of an alien world's food chain. Each will benefit from their years of experience on Earth, but they must somehow find a balance between old lives and new. Moderate mindsets and peaceful values from a mostly safe and privileged life on Earth must now contend and somehow coexist with the strange physiology of a new and unfamiliar body as well as the violent aggressiveness of a predator's mind. To top things off, the pair are about to find themselves struggling with their inner turmoil while swept up by terrible conflicts they know nothing about. Both endure the hardships of their new lives while attempting to understand and make proper use of a mysterious and terse video-game-like System that pops status notifications into their vision from time to time, but initially has no useful interface. Some of the options they are presented with sound enticing, but as with everything else in life, each choice has benefits and drawbacks... Author's Note: This story makes many changes to the original version, and readers of Mantid will find that many things in Mantis are new and different; especially after the first few chapters. I've learned a ton from writing like a madman, and also from the RR community. I appreciate you guys! :)
