《Destroy Me (Book 1) A Supernatural Story》19-Hooligans

Calliope and Dean get a hold of the director of the cemetery, and arrive having stopped at a gas station to change into their spare suits they had in the car to use for pretending to be FBI. They meet with the director who starts showing them the tomb where one of the bodies had gone missing from, "This tomb was built in 1926. Four generations of the Millsap family were interred here" the director is telling them.
"They don't build 'em like this anymore" Dean says to him.
"Tell me Agent Nugent, Agent Young, have you two thought about where you might like to spend eternity?" he asks them.
"Not really" Calliope says to him.
Dean takes a second to answer, "All the damn time" he then says as the two of them start to look around the tomb.
"Do you have any ideas about who would take the three missing bodies?" Calliope then asks the director.
"Hooligans, sick, deranged hooligans" he says to her as Dean notices something on the side of the tomb. Calliope watches as he touches whatever it was, and then smells it, disgusted by the smell. "This isn't blood. What is this?" he then asks the Director.
"No, it's embalming fluid. Whoever committed this crime didn't just take the corpses, they opened them up" the director says to them, and Dean looks up at him.
"Thank You for your time, if we need anything else we will call" Calliope tells the director.
"I hope you find these hooligans" he says as he walks out of the tomb.
"So any idea what the hell we are dealing with?" Calliope asks Dean, as she looks at the embalming fluid.
"Not a single one" he says to her.
"Well, I know what tends to help you think about this. We passed a bar on the way here, why don't we get a few drinks, and toss ideas around" Calliope says to him.
"How do you already know me so well, you've only been tagging along for a few months" he says as the two of them walk out of the tomb.
"I'm very observant" she smiles at him, as they walk toward the Impala. The two of them get into the car and Dean drives toward the bar she had mentioned. He pulls into the parking lot, and grabbing the papers Sam had given them earlier about the missing bodies, the two of them head inside. They take a seat at the empty bar and Dean places the piece of paper with Joe Barton's picture on the bar.
"First beer's on the house for cops, feds too" the woman behind the bar says as she comes over to them.
"Are we that obvious?" Calliope asks her.
"I know all the local badges" she says as she sets a glass of beer in front of her and Dean, "And you two have got that Law and Order vibe" she says to them as she then picks up a cloth and starts drying off a glass. "So what's the FBI doing in Windom?" she asks the two of them.
"We're looking into the disappearance of Joe Barton" Dean tells her, as he passes her the photo of Joe. She looks at it and they can tell she had a look of recognition, and is shaken by the photo.
"You know him didn't you?" Calliope asks her.
"A little, I'm his wife, Lisa" she tells them. Dean looks at Calliope then as the picture taking it and folding it back up to put in his pocket.

"Well, Lisa, what can you tell us about his disappearance?" Dean asks her.
"Same thing I told the sheriff, he stayed late Friday before last to do inventory, never came home" she tells them as Calliope and Dean both take a sip of their beers.
"What do the police have?" Calliope asks her.
"Nothing, truth is I was scared they stopped looking, but now you guys are here" she says to them.
Dean then spots a photo on the wall behind the bar; it was Joe in a police uniform, "Joe was a cop?" Dean asks her.
"Deputy, for a little while, that was a long time ago" she tells him.
"Did he happen to work the grave robbery case, in Nineteen Ninety?" Calliope asks her.
"He did, yeah Joe was the one who found the bodies. He got an award for that" Lisa tells them.
"That was an interesting case" Dean says as he continues to look at the other photos, "He ever tell you how he did it?" Dean then asks her.
"Most of the time, he said, good, solid police work. But after a few beers, he'd admit he had a little help" she tells Dean.
"From who?" he asks her.
"A 'specialist', that's all he'd say" she tells them and Calliope and Dean share a quick look knowing she was talking about his dad.
"Did the cops ever catch the guy who stole the bodies?" Calliope asks her as she takes another sip of the beer.
"No, but when I asked Joe about it, he'd say not to worry-that 'we took care of what done it'" she tells them.
"Thanks for the info Lisa" Calliope says to her as she walks away from them. "So the theory that whatever your dad killed and its back is out of the question since she just said that they took care of it" Calliope turns to Dean saying as she drinks some more of her beer.
"I guess....I just....I don't know Callie, does something feel off about this case?" he asks her.
"Not really, just gotta figure out what would want to steal bodies" she says to him.
Once they are done their beers, they head back to the Impala and back to the motel, when they arrive they see Sam being dragged under Adam's truck. "Calliope, Dean, Help!" Adam shouts as Dean stops the car and they two of them get out, as Dean helps Adam pull Sam back out. Calliope picks up the nearby shot gun, and rushes to the truck, as they get Sam out; she lets off a shot hoping to get whatever was under there. They all look at one another, the guys out of breath, as they lay there for a few seconds. Once they are okay, Adam moves the truck, and they see an opened man hole that was under the truck. Dean takes the shotgun from Calliope, and he moves closer to the opening, looking down he see's blood, touching it; he realizes that Calliope was able to injure whatever it was.
"You winged it" he says coming back over to her, Sam and Adam, "Did you see anything?" he asks.
"I didn't get a good look" Sam tells him, as Dean tosses the gun into the Impala.
"What the hell is this thing?" Dean asks.
"Should we go after it?" Adam then asks them
"No, no, in that maze? That thing's long gone" Dean tells him.
"Okay, we don't know what it is but we do know one thing, who it's going after, Joe Barton, Adam's mom, and-" "And Adam" Dean finishes Calliopes sentence for her. "It was under his truck, waiting for him" he adds.

"It set a trap, and I walked right into it" Sam says shaking his head.
"It doesn't matter, you're right there's a pattern" Dean tells him, "Joe Barton was a cop, I'm pretty sure he helped out Dad. So we've got him, Dad's girl...and his son" Dean lists off.
"All the people Dad knew in town" Sam says to him.
"Now we know why it's back" Calliope says to the boys.
"It wants revenge" Adam says and the three of them look over at him.
They head back over to Adam's house, Adam crouching under the police tape, as Dean just rips it all down, "Grab your stuff, we'll hit the road" Dean tells Adam. He nods at him, and heads up the stairs, as Calliope flicks on the light in the kitchen.
Sam goes and sits down on a chair as he pulls another one close to put his foot up on, "We shouldn't leave" he tells Calliope and Sam.
"Right, cause staying here where Adam's mom got taken from is a bright idea" Calliope says folding her arms.
"I'm serious" Sam says to her.
"No Sam, we're gonna take the kid, drop him off at Bobby's. Then you, me and Calliope are gonna some back and finish what Dad started" Dean tells him as he walks around toward the fridge.
"How? We got no leads, no witnesses. We do have what this thing wants" Sam says to him.
Dean turns to look at his brother, "You wanna use the kid as bait? That's why you wanna stay here?" he asks Sam.
"Maybe this thing will come back. We could train Adam, get him ready" Sam says to him as he takes the first aid kit out of his bag.
"Sam, he could die" Calliope tells him.
"We could all die, Callie, even if we kill this thing, there are tons of other freaks that want revenge. On Dad, on us, what if they find the kid instead, and he's not ready" Sam says as he goes to wrap his ankle.
"I'll do it" they all hear Adam say as he comes back into the kitchen, "Whatever it takes, I'll do it. I wanna do it" he tells the three of them and they all look at one another.
The next morning, they agree to take Adam somewhere to teach him how to shoot, Sam helps show him, while Calliope and Dean leans against the Impala watching. "This isn't right" Dean says shaking his head.
"He wants to be like his brothers, Dean, like his Dad" Calliope tells him.
"Yeah but just throwing him into this, isn't the best idea. I mean you, me and Sam we grew up around all this hunting stuff. Adam has never even see anything yet, and he wants to just jump right in" Dean tells her.
"Just give the kid a chance, he is a Winchester and you boys have a tendency to just jump right in" she smiles at him.
"I guess, I just, I don't want something bad to happen to the kid" he says to her.
"It won't okay, trust me, you and Sam will protect him, and you've got me" she smiles as they watch Sam continue teaching Adam to shoot.
Back at Adam's house, Sam is telling Adam about all the things that he and Dean had hunted, he was currently telling him about a Wendigo, and "So then we lit it on fire" Sam tells him.
"With a homemade flamethrower?" Adam asks him.
"Yeah, they're easy to build, I'll show you" Sam says smiling at him.
"That is some job you got, man" Adam says to him as Dean shares a look with Calliope.
"Being a hunter isn't a job, Adam. It's life" Sam tells him and he looks up at Sam, "You're premed; you got a girlfriend, friends?" Adam nods at him, "Not anymore you don't" Sam tells him. "If you're really gonna do this...you can't have those kinds of connections, ever. They're weaknesses. You'll just put those people in danger, get them killed. It's the price we pay, you cut them out and you don't look back. There's only one thing you can count on...Family" Sam explains to him.
"Sam?" Dean suddenly says, "Can we talk to you" he adds, as Sam gets up and comes over to Calliope and Dean and they walk out toward the other room.
"What the hell was that?" Dean asks him.
"What?" Sam asks.
"Hunting is life, you can't have connections' Dad gave you that exact same speech, remember? It was right before you ditched us for Stanford. You hated Dad for saying that stuff, and now you're quoting him?" Dean says to his brother.
"Yeah, well, turns out Dad was right" Sam says to him.
"Since when?" Dean asks.
"Since always" Sam tells him, "Dean when I look at Adam, you know what I see?" he adds.
"A normal kid" Dean tells him.
"No, meat. Because to the demons, and monsters out there, that's all he is. I hated Dad for a long time, I did. But now, I think I understand. SO we didn't have a dog and a white picket fence, so what? Dad did right by us. He taught us how to protect ourselves. Adam deserves the same" Sam tells his brother.
"Listen to yourself, man" Dean says to him.
"You think I'm wrong?" Sam asks him.
"I think it's too late for us, this is our life, this is who we are, okay? And it's fine, I accept that. But with Adam, he's still got a chance, man. He can go to school, he can be a doctor" Dean says.
"What makes Adam so special?" Sam asks him.
"What, are you, jealous of the kid?" Dean then asks.
"Are you?" Sam asks back and Calliope can tell they are getting frustrated with one another.
"Hey...hey... guys come on. Do I need to use my whatever to separate you two" she steps in between them saying.
Sam sighs, "Dean, all this....it's not real. The Dad Adam knew, he wasn't real, the things out there in the shadows, they are real. The world is coming to an end, that's real. Everything else is just the crap people tell themselves to get through the day" Sam tells him.
"Dad didn't have a choice with us, okay? But with Adam he did. Adam doesn't have to be cursed" Dean says to him.
"He's a Winchester he's already cursed" Sam says back to him.
"No....no whatever's hunting Adam, I'm gonna find it" Dean then says.
"Dean, you've already looked everywhere you could think of" Calliope says to him.
"Then I'll look again" he says storming pass the two of them.
"I've got him covered, just be safe with Adam, and if you need help just you know try the calling out for me thing" Calliope says as she then follows Dean out of the house.
The two of them get in the Impala, and Dean heads back off toward the cemetery to have another look around. "You know you were a little harsh on Sam back there" Calliope says to Dean.
"Yeah...well what he is doing, it just isn't right Callie. I mean if you had never known about any of the things out there, and someone came into your life and told you they were real, and you are part of a family that fights them would you want to join them or continue having a normal life knowing what we go through all the time" Dean asks her.
Calliope just looks at Dean, unsure what to really say, because both brothers had a point, "I guess I would take the normal life. Sam's right, the connections with friends, having romantic relationships, just can't work for hunters" she says to him.
"Unless it's another hunter" Dean says smiling at her.
"Whoa...not gonna happen, and two hunters dating, is a dangerous situation" she says as he pulls up to the cemetery, parking right by the tomb. Calliope and Dean get out of the car, and head inside the tomb, Dean taking a flashlight out of his pocket, as he looks around the tomb. Calliope takes her flashlight out too, and starts to search the tomb, when she notices air coming in through the back wall.
"Dean, check this out" Calliope says to him, and he sees the same thing, going back to the Impala and getting the crowbar out, he starts to pry at the brick. Finally getting it out of the way, the both look in to see a dug out tunnel. "Age before beauty" Calliope says to him, and Dean just gives her a stern look. "What...if there's anything in there, it's going after you first" she smirks at him.
Dean rolls his eyes as he gets in the tunnel, "Don't you stare at my ass" he remarks as he turns the flashlight on and starts crawling.
"But you have such a cute ass" Calliope says to him, and Dean forms a light smile on his lips. The two of them continue going through the tunnel, when Dean comes to the opening at the end. He climbs through the opening coming into another crypt; he holds his hand out to help Calliope climb down.
"Thanks" she says to him as she rubs her hands on her pants wiping the dirt off.
Dean scans the room, with the flashlight, "Home, sweet home" he says to her as they continue to look around. Dean then steps on something and they both look down, to see blood and body parts.
Calliope bends down picking up a pair of glasses, showing them to Dean, "Sloppy Joe" he says to her, and she glares at him. Just then they hear bricks being moved, and the look at one another before taking their guns out, and aiming them at the tunnel. They look to see someone replacing the bricks that Dean had moved away earlier, and they both shoot at whoever it is, and they shots make the dirt fall into the tunnel blocking their way out.
"Oh, son of a bitch" Dean says when they look at what has happened.
"Damnit" Calliope says as she takes out her cell phone, and starts to move it around looking for a signal.
Dean does the same thing, and isn't getting one either, "Son of a Bitch" he remarks. The two of them then try the doors and they both shove at them, trying to pry them open but they won't budge. They decide to look around trying to find another way out. Dean walks over to one of the coffins in the crypt, and he opens it, and a foul smell comes out, as he looks inside. Calliope comes over, looking inside too, and see's Adam's mother inside, dead another body in there too, and they both see Adam.
"Oh, God!" Calliope says as she steps away, trying to catch her breath.
"We need to get out of here, can you...can you uses your whatever?" Dean asks Calliope as he goes and tries the doors again. Calliope closes her eyes trying to focus on making herself get out of there, she feels an odd sensation, but when she opens her eyes nothing happens.
"Damnit, I got no idea how this even works" she tells him as they look around for another way out, and they both look up to see a stain glassed window, letting some light in.
"Come on" Dean says to her, as he breaks the handle off one of the coffins and smashes the window.
Eventually getting themselves out of the crypt, they race to the Impala, getting in and rushing back off to the house that they had left Sam and the now not Adam in. Pulling up to the house, they each grab a gun, and race inside, "Hey" Dean shouts getting the not Adam's attention, as he shoot him.
"Dean, Callie, they're ghouls!" Sam calls out as they see him tired up on the kitchen table.
Calliope aims her gun at the ghoul imitating Adam's mom and shoots it in the head, "Which mean's headshot" her and Dean say together as they go to untie Sam. As Dean goes to help his brother the Adam Ghoul comes up behind him grabbing him, "Dean!" Calliope shouts.
"Help Sammy!" he groans as he fights off Adam.
Calliope starts to untie Sam, as Dean and the ghoul fight in the next room, finally getting Sam untied, she helps him sit up. Dean after bashing the ghouls head in comes over to help with Sam, and they both see his wrists are cut and he is bleeding badly from them.
"Here, use these" Calliope says as she hands Dean the cloth napkins that were nearby.

The Dog with a Chair
As of now, this story is dropped. It was an excellent learning experience, but the quality suffered too much from me trying new things for me to continue in good concience. Thanks to anyone that read it. I'm leaving this story up as a record of my first ever attempt at publishing something I've wrote. To any new writers out there, remember that even if the stuff you write is trash, you can still learn a lot from writing it. - November 17th 2020 Guy gets involved in advocacy for civil engineering projects, then gets pulled into an interdimensional war. Third person with a focus on one main character (Stanley) with the occasional point of view from another character important to story progression. Writing style tends to shift early on as I figure out how to write (this is my first book). Still learning, hoping to improve. Current style choice is to have a focus on character dialogue/actions with interspersed internal monologue in italics. No current end is set for the story, with the primary goal of this project being to learn to express myself in a written format. Storyline is kept as consistent as practical while covering things I find interesting. Governmental systems are mentioned, but not explained in extreme detail. Sci fi elements are used to reinforce and guide plot progression as I'm able. Personal goals belonging to each character are in the process of being developed, with the hope that they will support or oppose each other in interesting ways later on. Hope you enjoy :)
