SEASON 6 Ep 7

TRANSITIONING

It had only been a month since Haley and Sam had found out she was pregnant, and they were both bursting with excitement. They had visited the doctor, the day after, finding she was about 4 weeks pregnant. They decided to hold up on telling everyone, which meant she had to discreetly sneak off to the bathroom. She had morning sickness, but she also had it during random times of the day. She was moody, but Sam didn't care, he was over the moon about being a dad. This also meant hiding any known clues, so she wore flowy clothing and carried binders or bigger bags, to hide her growing belly from anyone.

As Haley and Sam sat in the teacher's lounge at lunch, they were talking about their baby, and name ideas, even though it was too early to know the gender, they couldn't contain their smiles and chatter.

"When can we tell everyone, Hay?" Sam asked, as she leaned her head against his shoulder. "It's been a little while, and I can't wait." He sighed.

"Well, I was about one month pregnant when I found out, a month ago, and I'm two months pregnant. As of tomorrow I'm three months pregnant, which means I'll be at 12 weeks...So anytime I guess. We just need to be together, when we announce it, or be in the know." Haley replied as Sam leaned in to press his lips to hers.

Just as they were enjoying their moment, Rachel came storming into the choir room.

"Hey Rach what's up?" Haley asked, as she pulled away from Sam, to face her.

"Early this morning, I was fast asleep and I was having the most amazing dream tha tI was on Broadway and there was all this pudding. And I woke up to this pounding. At first I just thought it was a really big woodpecker or one of the neighbours was installing an in-ground pool, but then I saw what it was. My dads sold our house!" Rachel explained.

"Wait, isn't that a good thing...? You said it's been on the market for quite some time now, and that the buyers would back out of the offer at the last minute." Haley said.

"Yes! That's because I was sabotaging it!" She went on to explain a few stories of how she scared off the potential buyers.

"Rachel, that's insane." Sam commented.

"Even for your standards, that's a bit extreme." Haley pointed out.

"This is the only house I've ever known, it's the house I grew up in and I just really hate the fact that in a couple of days, it'll be someone else's..."

"Listen, as someone who sometimes didn't have any home at all-" Sam began.

"Uh-mhm! Mhmm! No way! I'm not going to let you guilt me into going along with this because you were once homeless." Rachel began, as Haley glared at her. Sighing, Rachel continued her rant. "I'm sorry, but that has nothing to do with this! I just-I'm not ready to say goodbye, and I'll be damned if I let my dad's go through with this." She finished, storming out of the room.

"What an angsty daughter we have." Sam joked, as Haley sent him a look.

"I have an idea, and it doesn't just have to be a goodbye party, we can announce our pregnancy and invite everyone, not just the current New Directions." Haley suggested, as Sam nodded.

"It's a plan."

-----

After inviting everyone, and getting everyone on board, Haley and Sam's plan was underway. However, Rachel had already begun another lesson, unbeknownst to the slight change of plans.

"Okay you guys! Let's get started on this week's lesson! It's called buckeye bullseyes, featuring all artists from Ohio. Marilyn Manson and Dean Martin and-"

"Actually, Rachel, there's been a slight change of plans." Kurt interjected, walking to the whiteboard.

"Kurt, you can't just change the lesson like that!" She hissed.

"Well sometimes life throws you a curveball and that's why this week's new and improved lesson is...transitioning! Changing, charging forward." He said after he had pushed the current whiteboard away to reveal another one with the word 'transitioning' written on it.

"Rachel, it's come to our attention that you're having some trouble with saying goodbye to your childhood home. Which is forcing you to say goodbye to your childhood and accept adulthood." Haley said, sitting her down in the spinny chair, as her and Sam wheeled her over the middle of the room.

"Or at least that's what's happening according to the very nice lady at the Lima mental health clinic." Blaine commented.

"So to help Rachel with this transition, we're throwing her a 'farewell to Rachel's house' party and everyone's invited." Sam explained. "It's going to be Friday night in Rachel's basement."

"And we invited the rest of the alumni New Directions as well. It's going to be awesome." Haley commented, smiling, despite her need to throw up.

"So this lesson isn't for us?" Madison asked.

"It's for Rachel?" Mason added.

"Yeah, so shut up." Kitty said, not turning to look at them.

"Fetch me my wheel!" Artie demanded, as Blaine and Sam ran to the other side of the room, bringing in a rainbow coloured wheel. "Welcome to the wheel of musical fortune! Everyone spins and whoever's name you land on, you have to sing a duet with them at the party."

"Sam and I are duet partners, but the rest of you will be paired up." Haley commented, as Artie shook his head in agreement.

"Can't we just pick names out of a hat?" Spencer asked, as Artie glared at him.

"I'll go first. Luck be a lady tonight!" Mercedes said, spinning the wheel. It landed on Ronderick, who smiled. Awkwardly introducing herself, Mercedes smiled. "This is gonna be great, you're great."

"Okay my turn!" Kurt announced, as he spun the wheel, watching it click, slowing down towards Artie and Blaine's names. Everyone thought it would land on Artie's name, but Haley swore she saw Kurt discreetly give the wheel a push so it landed on Blaine's. "Oh, huh." Kurt said, keeping a straight face.

----

The party at Rachel's basement had kicked off with Mercedes and Roderick's duet of Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass.

New Directions old and new all gathered together, enjoying themselves. Everyone danced, and sang along. Some just spent the time chatting, and catching up.

"Being back here brings me back to that party so many years ago." Haley muttered, as Sam nodded.

"Our first kiss was right there. Except we weren't all that sober..." He chuckled, pointing to the couch.

"Definitely. I still remember it now. It's a foggy memory...but now...It explains why my lips were frickin swollen the weekend after." Haley laughed.

"Oh is that so? Well I am a catch." Sam smirked as he wrapped her into his arms moving them towards the couch, as he pressed his lips to hers in a passionate kiss, enjoying the gentle and loving moment, he began to kiss down her neck.

"Okay, this is wanky... I have to go pee like really badly." Haley said as she slowly got up. "I love you though." She smiled as he sent her a smile. "But..." she began, as she turned to grab his hand.

"But what?" He asked.

"Just come on... we can keep it PG in here because no ones drunk yet... and I don't want to put on a huge racy show for everyone. Let's go somewhere private." Haley whispered, as he smirked. The two of them made their way to the bathroom together.

"WANKY." Santana commented, laughing as Haley sent her a look.

After some more performances, dance parties, food and drinks, and spending time with Quinn, Santana, Brittany and Kitty, Rachel had asked Haley to come up to her bedroom with her, dragging Sam with the two girls.

"Wow." Haley said as she walked to the pictures on Rachel's wall. "Oh god, is that from Rocky Horror?" She asked, as Sam chuckled, holding the picture up for them to see. "No wonder I fell in love with you." She smiled, as he looked down at her fondly.

"You can't do it can you? I mean, everything else is boxed up, but you haven't touched this wall." Haley said aloud.

"All my best memories from high school are on that wall. My whole childhood I just spent in this room, singing and dancing, all alone with pictures of Barbara Streisand and Bernadette Peters, but then I met you guys and the wall started to fill up with real friends and real dreams. I don't know, everything just seemed so clear in high school, and I'm supposed to pack it all up?"

"We're gonna need a bigger wall." Sam commented, as Haley sat down next to Rachel, using a pillow to cover her stomach.

"Um-Star Wars?" Rachel asked, trying to guess the reference.

"No! Jaws! Seriously Rach?" Sam and Haley chorused in unison.

"Listen, the wall doesn't go away, and neither do the memories or the friends on it. The wall just gets bigger and wherever you go, it'll go too." Haley said, as Rachel nodded.

The three decided to get up and go back downstairs, to rejoin the group as Sam and Haley's duet was up next in line.

-----

"Please welcome Haley and Sam to the stage!" Artie announced, as Haley and Sam, walked hand in hand to the little stage to perform their duet.

After they finished, Sam leaned down to give her a comforting hug and a quick kiss,

"I love you so much." Haley whispered.

"I love you so much too. More than you'll ever know." Sam added.

After their moment, they turned to face their friends.

"Okay, y'all, we have an announcement." Haley said, after the clapping had died down.

"You're finally going to outer space on a dinosaur." Brittany commented, as Haley laughed, and shook her head.

"After a few upset weeks, and efforts of trying..." Haley began, as Sam smiled.

"Haley's pregnant!" Sam finished, as everyone's eyes widened at the news.

"WHAT!?" Kitty asked, as she began to get emotional, making Tina cry as well.

"How many weeks!?" Santana called out.

"12! Basically three months pregnant as of a few days ago." Haley confirmed, as everyone clapped and cheered.

"That would explain the random emotions and outbursts." Blaine added.

"Well I couldn't help it, I've had to discreetly make irregular trips to the bathroom, wear flowy clothing and carry books and bags. Plus my moods and cravings have been a little wild." Haley explained, as Sam wrapped his arms around her.

"You must be going crazy dude." Jake commented.

"A little, but not a lot. I love her too much. And I'm just happy that the news is out, because I have been waiting for awhile to share the news." Sam grinned.

"Unique can't wait to see if the baby has some sass." Unique added, as everyone giggled.

"I'm sure the baby will inherit the sass and bitchiness." Haley assured the group.

"Who's going to be the godparents?" Quinn spoke up.

"We're figuring that out, but you'll all get to love and care for our baby." Sam smiled.

"I hate picking favourites y'all." Haley muttered. "But we can tell that you'll all equally share the baby when we're around."

"Guy's I'm so excited." Rachel commented.

"Yeah congrats!" Kurt smiled, as he addressed the couple. "You both deserve it."

"It it a boy or a girl?" Mike asked.

"We don't know yet! But we will in a few weeks." Haley answered.

"That baby whether it's a boy or girl, is going to be so loved." Marley added, as everyone nodded.

"I feel like a proud parent." Santana commented. "There's going to be a baby trout in the family..."

"I'm going to go cry more, so someone give me something to drink." Tina demanded, as everyone laughed.

"I'm just happy, for the both of you." Artie commented.

They all surrounded Sam and Haley in a big group hug, excited for the new addition to the New Direction's family, that was coming in less than a year.

Before the night ended, Blaine and Kurt sang their duet and performed a rendition of 'Somebody Loves You'.

Rachel was finally able to say farewell to her house, with help from her friends, and another boost of confidence. She packed her room up, before leaving and shutting the door.
