ONE WEEK COUNTDOWN

(CHAPTER 18)

June 6, 2014

After a wild 8 months in New York, Sam and Haley had decided that they were going to move back to Lima. They both knew that it was the best fit for them at the moment. They didn't want their kids to be born right in the bustling city just yet.

"Hard to believe our wedding is in a week, huh?" Haley asked, as her and Sam were eating breakfast.

"Yeah, baby. I'm so excited." He smiled, frowning as she played with her fingers.

"What's wrong Hay?" He asked, grabbing her hands in his.

"I'm just really stressed, you know? The perfectionism and realization is catching up to me." She sighed, trying to calm herself down.

"It's going to be fine, Hay." He assured her, as she smiled, softly.

"Yeah, I hope. Just need everything to be perfect." She replied, as he came around the table to give her a hug.

"I love you so much, Hay." He sighed, as she laughed lightly, in his embrace.

"I love you too, Sam." She said, still managing to look over at the moodboards in the living room.

"Are you looking at the moodboards?" He asked as they pulled away.

"Haha, no...why would I be?" She asked, defensively.

"Hay, don't worry about that right now. We both have a big day ahead of us. We have our final fittings today." He said, rubbing his hands up and down her arms comfortingly, when his phone buzzed.

"Oh speaking of that, Blaine and Kurt are waiting for me." He said, standing up, after reading his phone.

"Okay, Santana is going to go all Lima Heights, if I'm not ready in five." Haley sighed, also standing up.

"Well, I'll see you tonight baby." Sam said, leaning down and pressing his lips to hers.

"See you." Haley said, as they both went out the door, and their separate ways, where their friends were waiting.

----

Haley was honestly so glad to be out and about, it gave her mind a break, and although she was stressed, she had to admit, that this was a wonderful distraction.

"Girls this is my final fitting... so no bursting out crying." Haley called out from the change room.

"Got it, sweetie." Carol answered, and Mary and the other girls chorused their okay's and understandings.

"That means no mockery or nasty comments, Santana." Haley said sternly, making Santana giggle.

"You got it, Hay." The Latina said.

"Okay, here I come." Haley said after a while. She couldn't help but marvel at herself in the mirror. She walked out slowly, making everyone gasp.

"Oh my god..." Tina trailed off, as she began to cry.

"Someone give her some alcohol." Santana said, as Brittany handed her a glass of champagne.

"What do you think?" Haley asked, turning around in her dress.

"It's so gorgeous." Rachel commented. Haley smiled. She had decided to invite the girl, since they had begun to form a proper genuine friendship.

"Sam's going to love it." Marley added.

"Honestly, if you walked down the aisle wearing a hotdog costume, Trouts would still be in awe." Santana commented.

"Or if you rode in on a unicorn...it would be majestic." Brittany commented.

"You look gorgeous honey." Carol added.

"I second that." Quinn, Mercedes, and Kitty chorused in unison.

Haley smiled before looking in the mirror at herself, and then turning around, to see Mary walking up to her.

"What do you think?" Haley asked, anxiously.

"Oh honey, I love it, and I think you look ravishing." Mary commented, admiring the woman who was joining her family.

"I wanted to give you something. You don't need to wear it, but I just thought it would really match with your dress." She said, opening a jewelry box to reveal a jeweled diamond necklace.

Haley gasped, as tears sprang to her eyes. "I would love to wear it. What a coincidence that it matches, huh?" She sniffled.

After Mary had helped her put the necklace on, she brought Haley into a hug. "Welcome to the family, Haley. We're so lucky, and very grateful for you. Even though Sam may love you more than us, know that we love you just as much. You're a gift to all of us." She whispered, making Haley cry harder.

"Thank you, for allowing me into the family. I'm so thankful for you guys, and especially for Sam. You guys have been there for me through so much. I couldn't be more overwhelmed and grateful for your devoted time, your generosity, acceptance and kindness. I love you guys." Haley replied.

All the girls were emotional. Some more than others.

"Unique might need to go use the washroom." Unique commented, making everyone laugh.

"Seriously, Haley, you are freaking gorgeous." Kitty added, laughing at Santana who was getting very emotional.

Haley smiled. "Thank you girls." She said, walking over to give Carol a hug. "Thank you for letting me into your family, for treating me like a daughter, and how I deserved to be treated. I wouldn't be here without you." She whispered, making Carol cry even harder. "Oh honey, we've been so happy to have you be a part of our family all these years. You are always welcome, and we will always be here for you."

Haley nodded before she turned to the girls. "Honestly if I may admit something, I've kept to myself so many years...it's that I thought this day would never come." She said, tears falling. "But now, I laugh at the 9 year old me, who was creating binders of wedding plans..who thought she was never going to find anyone. I wish I could tell that once 9 year old, anxiety and depressed girl, 'you're going to find someone. It's about the right timing, and the right person. You're going to meet an amazing man, who's going to be the most accepting, most kind, caring, genuine, funny, supportive, encouraging and understanding. He's going to love you no matter your struggles and if you feel like a burden. Just give it time." Haley said, now in tears, as everyone else cried.

"That's really beautiful Hay." Quinn commented.

"It really is." Tina added, sobbing into Mercedes' shoulder.

"Well, girls." Haley said after quite some time. "I'm going to keep Santana, back with me, and I'll meet you girls outside for lunch okay?" she asked, as the others nodded.

Haley pulled Santana with her, as the girls walked towards the couches.

"Hay, what's wrong? Do I need to give you alcohol too?" Santana asked.

"No.." Haley laughed, tears falling down her face. "You know, I'm just really stressed, and you know, Sam was like, 'Hay, don't stress, it's going to be okay.' I think the realization is hitting, and it's shocking and overwhelming. I was up till midnight working on moodboards last night, because I want everything to be perfect... and I can't help but stress, it's how I'm wired." Haley rambled.

"Oh, Hay. It's going to be lovely. We will all be here for you. You don't have to worry or stress." Santana assured her by pulling her into a hug. "In fact, right now, I want you to breathe. Take three deep breaths."

Haley closed her eyes, and began taking deep breaths. As Santana talked to her comfortingly, rubbing her back.

"See? Everything is going to turn out amazing. You're freaking stunning in your dress. The final product will be gorgeous. I'll be saying WANKY the whole walk down the aisle. And...From the texts and pictures of the mood boards, it's looking phenomenal. Auntie Snixx is impressed, and I need you to just take some more deep breaths over the next week, get sleep, and I'll be here. What are maid of honors for?" Santana asked, as Haley laughed.

"Thanks Tana. I appreciate it. And yeah you're right. I will get through this week, no problem." Haley smiled

"Good, let's get you changed, pay for the dress, and go eat, alright?"

"Alright. Let's go!" Haley said.

----

Meanwhile, around the exact same time, Sam was with the boys also trying on their suits for the final time before the wedding.

"How does it feel? To know that you're getting married to Haley next week?" Blaine asked, as they were looking at themselves in the mirror.

"Honestly man, amazing. I am doing fine, I think. She's the one who's in constant stress." Sam answered.

"Well, she's a perfectionist." Artie commented. "I don't think perfectionists can help it, but I know it's going to be perfect."

"It will be. Also, Sam, you're tying your tie wrong." Kurt commented, going over to help him. "There we go."

"Puck, man, stop flirting with the girls outside." Mike commented

"It's disgusting." Jake added.

"Aren't you dating Quinn still?" Blaine asked.

"Yeah, but a guy's gotta do what he's gotta do." Puck replied.

"Just...no." Kurt shook his head unimpressed. "Puck stop fooling around, guys come stand by the mirror so we can all have a look." Kurt directed the guys. "There we go."

"I believe we're good to go." Blaine smiled. "It's going to be awesome."

"Hey, man, can I talk to you?" Sam asked, pulling Blaine aside.

"Yeah of course, what's up?"

"Is it bad that I feel stressed?" Sam asked. "Like I feel more nervous, maybe I should call Haley."

"No. No. Definitely not. Don't call Haley, she's already stressed, and she's spending time with the girls. It's okay to be nervous and overwhelmed. This is a whole new chapter. Just take a few deep breaths." Blaine instructed, as Sam took some deep breaths.

"Yeah. I will be fine." Sam assured him, smiling lightly.

"See? No need to worry!" Blaine explained.

"She's going to be Haley Evan's soon." Sam commented, his smile growing.

"It sounds right." Jake added.

"It really does." Artie added. "It just fits."

"They're right, man." Blaine agreed. "This wedding is going to be incredible, and you are both going to be so happy, so just, enjoy every up and down through this next week, and try to relax. Okay?"

"Okay, I will." Sam nodded.

----

That evening, Haley was playing around with last minute moodboards. She had to admit, she was glad to be the first one home. She could sort and stress in peace. Although, she tried to take deep breaths, and take to heart what Santana had said.

"Okay...this goes here." She muttered, playing around with colors, and textiles. She honestly didn't need to do more, she just used sorting as a coping method.

"Hay, I'm home." Sam called, coming into the living room.

"Hey, Sam." She said, with her back towards him.

"You're still sorting? What time did you get home?" He asked, pulling her into a hug, and pressing a kiss to her forehead.

"Like 9:30...I've only been sorting for 2 hours." She sighed, gesturing toward the boards.

"How was your day?" She asked, trying to move on from the fact she was quite stressed.

"It was great, baby. We are all set to go." Sam smiled down at her.

"Well that's good, I'm glad." She smiled up at him, as he pressed his lips to hers.

"Yeah. I can't wait to marry you in a week." Sam grinned, as they pulled away, still keeping their foreheads pressed together.

"Me too, baby, now I do want to get back to sorting." She said as she gestured to the boards again.

"Oh, Hay, just take a break...actually, Santana told me to keep an eye out on you. Especially this next week." Sam said, looking at her with a firm expression, as she laughed.

"I'm stressed, what can I say. Arranging and sorting moodboards is a coping method. I can't help it, okay?" She asked, as she wiped some of the tears from her face. "I just need our wedding to be perfect."

Sam sighed, and wiped her tears, that continued to fall. "Oh Hay..."

"It's going to be everything we ever wanted. You don't have to worry or freak out. Just breathe okay?" Sam said, bringing her into the bedroom, as he sat them down. "Yeah, close your eyes and take three deep breaths." He instructed, as she breathed in and out. "Yeah that's it. Do you feel better, Hay?"

"I guess, for now." She sighed as she leaned her head against his chest. "You do know that I love you?"

"How funny, I love you too!" Sam laughed fondly, as he captured her lips in yet another kiss.

"Next week couldn't come any faster." Haley sighed, as they snuggled against each other.

"It's coming as fast as it can." Sam assured her. "And it's going to be the most memorable day that I'll cherish for the rest of my life."

"Oh, stop, you're going to make me cry again." Haley whacked him playfully, as he chuckled.

"Just speaking the mere truth."
