SEASON 4 EP 21

Wonder-ful

"Wonder-ful!" Mr. Schue announced as he wrote the word on the board. "Alright guys, I just got some wonderful news from Rachel. She's got a second callback for Funny Girl."

Everyone clapped, although Haley despised the girl, she had to admit she was talented. Haley knew she would make it, and despite it, because she was still in a daze of being engaged, she clapped.

"And that's not our only good news. Brittany is at M.I.T. touring the campus because she's got an early acceptance."

"That's my Britt." Haley smiled, as Sam wrapped his arm around her. She was still awaiting to hear if she had gotten into NYU. Her anxiety could not be worse.

"And I re-proposed to Emma. She re-accepted, and we're getting married after Regionals. We're excited." Mr. Schue continued, as everyone cheered.

"I've got good news, too." Tina said, walking to stand at the front. "I'm wait-listed at the Columbus college of Veterinary Medicine. It's a fallback if I don't pursue acting."

Everyone cheered again, Haley putting on a smile to cover up her anxiety and apprehension.

"They acceptance letter is coming, Hay. You're going to get in." Sam said trying to comfort her.

"Tina, that's not just good news. It's wonderful, and that's what this week is all about. We're taking a lesson from one of the greatest musical artists of all time. Despite facing a ton of obstacles, he's a living example of embracing... No, celebrating... Joy and optimism, and he's collected 25 Grammys along the way. So don't you worry 'bout a thing because whether you're ebony or ivory, you are the sunshine of my life."

Yes. And next week at Regionals we will be jammin' on higher ground. Yeah, it's a Stevie Wonder week." Everyone laughed and cheered.

-----

Haley sat at her desk that night, when she received an email from NYU.

"Oh god, this is the moment of truth. Am I accepted or am I rejected?" She sighed, as she went to read the email, she suddenly got up.

"I can't do this." She said, as her breathing quickened. "I mean Columbia rejected me, so what happens if NYU does as well..."

She debated on whether to call Sam, Blaine or Kurt, or Kitty to come read it for her, but then she knew she'd be a mess if she didn't get in.

"Well I'm doing this. I have a 4.0 GPA, I'll be valedictorian, and I'll be fine..." Haley said, clicking the email and reading through the letter.

Her face didn't light up, because she saw that she'd been rejected. "Oh, dear.." She sighed. "Haley Aldrin, we regret to inform you..." She trailed off as her voice began to shake, and her lip was quivering. She felt tears coming.

"This week isn't so wonderful, so far." She muttered, as she laid down on her bed, letting her tears fall.

She pulled out her phone, and called Sam. Asking him to come over, and that it was urgent, and in truth, she wanted comfort and a shoulder to cry on.

"Hey, Hay, what's up?" He answered.

"Can you come over, now?? It's urgent." Haley asked.

"Yeah, on my way." He answered, hanging up.

••

Not even fifteen minutes later, she heard her door open, as Sam came in.

"Hey, Haley, what's up?" He asked, smiling. His smile faded as he saw Haley's tear stained face, and her lip quivering, as she sat up to look at him.

"Sam...I didn't get accepted into NYU." She managed to get out as she began to cry harder.

"Oh, Hay." Sam said, running to sit with her, pulling her into his arms. "I'm so sorry." He mumbled as he rocked them gently back and forth.

"I just feel like my life is over...you know? I really don't know what to think right now." She said, as her breathing was rapid.

"Shh, just take three deep breaths, Hay, you'll be fine. I'm going to be here with you through everything." Sam assured her as he let her cry into his chest.

As they pulled away, he leaned his forehead against hers. "You can still come to New York, we can find a place to stay, prepare for our wedding and everything. Your life isn't over because of two rejections. They don't define your life. And maybe a miracle will happen..." Sam suggested.

"That seems kinda silly and difficult to believe right now." Haley muttered.

"I know, but for now, why don't we watch a movie and eat snacks, to cheer you up?" He offered, as she nodded.

"O-okay." She sighed, as he pressed his lips to hers.

"I love you so much, and I'm so proud of you, nothing will ever change that." Sam said, as he pulled away, but rubbed her arms comfortingly.

"I love you too." Haley sent him a sad smile, as she leaned against his chest, while he wrapped his arms around her.

She was merely grateful for her fiancé and the comfortable silence. Even if she wasn't going to university, she knew she still had Sam, and her friends. For that, she was thankful.

{SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED-SUNG BY KITTY WILDE}

Everyone cheered as Kitty finished singing her song, dedicating it to Artie. She smiled as she faced the group.

"Seemed like the perfect Stevie song to celebrate Artie getting his acceptance letter into film school." She said, as Artie frowned, not seeming that happy, even as he was getting congratulated.

Haley leaned her head against Sam's shoulder as he had her wrapped in his arms. He knew she was going through a rough week, since the rejection last night. Not that anyone else knew.

"Well, you know, that may have been the perfect song, but that performance was just one package that I'm not signing for." Mercedes said. "I mean, honestly it was good, but you guys have got to be great for Regionals."

"Yeah, clearly we should be taking our advice from someone who came crawling back to Ohio after apparently having her L.A. dream shattered." Kitty said, as Mercedes looked at her. "You learn your new lyrics yet? Do you want fries with that?"

"Oh, well, maybe if you put some of that sass in your performance, your teacher wouldn't have begged me to come here and be your new vocal coach." Mercedes responded.

"Mercedes is one of the strongest vocalists in McKinley Glee Club history." Mr. Schue said.

"So get on point, Kitty, your little theory about Mercedes' shattered dreams, like most of the garbage that comes out of your mouth, is wrong." Kurt said.

"Alright, Mercedes is back because she has a new album coming out, all about home, and she's come back to film a video for it."

"Wow! So proud of you!" Haley said smiling.

"And Mr. Schue asked me to help choreograph for Regionals." Mike added.

"I love you, Mike, I love all my exes. But this isn't wonderful news, it's shocking." Tina said, as everyone turned to look at her. "Now we need some guy to help us dance? Why do we need Mike anyway? Hashtag Glee Hates Girls, and what are you here to lecture us about, Kurt, our horrible taste in clothing?" She asked.

"My dad has cancer." Kurt replied, sending her a glare, as she shuffled uncomfortably in her chair.

"Thanks Tina." Blaine said quietly.

"Please don't say something unless you know it's acceptable or kind." Haley said.

"Oh! On the topic of acceptances into university...Hay! Did you hear something yet?" Kitty asked, as Haley sighed, before getting up to stand in the front and deliver the news.

"So, I received the letter last night, and I got rejected. So I won't even be going to NYU or Columbia." Haley said as everyone sent her sympathetic looks. "But you know? It's fine, it's fine." Haley said, tears filling her eyes.

"If you'll excuse me." She said, walking out of the choir room, clearly upset. Sam went walking after her.

Sam managed to catch up with Haley as she stood by her locker, shuffling her books around, clearly angry and annoyed.

"Are you okay?" He asked, as he stopped her from organizing, and pulled her into a comforting hug.

"Honestly, please just let me sink into the floor." She sniffled. "This week has been un-wonderful.. If that's a word."

"Oh Hay, I know you are going to be okay. I'll be here with you the whole way. What are fiances and best friends for?" Sam asked, as he held her hand with her engagement ring on it.

"It's hard to believe I'm going to be okay, though. I guess my mood hasn't changed yet." Haley sighed.

"Well, everything will be okay, you aren't going to be stuck. I know that you feel that you are always a step behind everyone. Stuck in one place. But your not, Hay...you're always travelling down your own path. It's a matter of timing and a positive mindset." Sam tried to bring her more comfort.

"Honestly, yeah...I guess you're right." Haley sighed as she leaned her head against his chest, letting him engulf her in another hug.

"I love you, Hay. No matter what happens, I'm proud of you, and I'll be here for you every step of the way." Sam said pulling away so he could look down at her.

"Thanks, I know I can be a handful...but I love you too." She said, pressing her lips to his.

----

"Alright everybody, let's give it up for Island Beetz recording artist extraordinaire, Mercedes Jones." Sam announced as everyone stood in the auditorium.

"All right, all right. Now, I know that Kurt and Haley are both going through a lot this week, but in spite of that, we are all very happy to be here. As you may remember, we saw you guys at sectionals, and there's a reason that you guys lost. Fear." Mercedes said.

"For instance, Marley. You have killer vocals, homegirl, so why is it that I've never heard you do a Mercedes Jones-style vocal run?"

"I don't know. I-I guess I've just been scared to try." Marley shrugged.

"Exactly. You're scared to belt it out. And you're probably afraid that when you do, I'm gonna test your breath control by hitting you in the solar plexus with this maraca. Alright, give this girl a note to do a little runnin' with."

Haley, smiled weakly as Marley belted a near perfect belt, giggling with everyone as Mercedes hit her stomach with a maraca.

"See? If you had better breath control, you could probably hold that note every time. Alright, floppy-headed bass player, why don't you give us a little bit of that spooky Stevie Wonder bass line to get us moving. And y'all need to shake out your nerves and stop being so scared, and that includes you, Kurt and Haley. I know both of you are going through things, but this one's for both of you. And, Marley, I want to hear those high notes, and don't be stingy with those runs." Mercedes instructed.

{SUPERSTITION}

----

Haley and Sam sat on her bed talking and beginning to wedding plan, when she got an email alert. "Hum..." She said, getting up to check.

"It's from NYU...which is odd, considering they rejected me." She said.

"Well...still open it?!" Sam suggested excitedly.

Haley opened it, and took 2 minutes to read it before squealing as she turned around to face Sam. "I got in. There was a mixup and I'm in for the fall semester!" She said, as Sam ran and picked her up, spinning her around, before pressing his lips to hers. He then dipped her over, as she laughed, holding her arm around his neck for balance.

I'm so proud of you baby. New York is going to be awesome." He said.

"Thank you, I love you so much." Haley sighed as she enjoyed the comfortable silence, being wrapped in his arms.

"I love you too, Hay, so much." He replied.
