DANCE WITH SOMEBODY

(SEASON 3 EPISODE 17)

"Actually, Berry, The Bodyguard was and always will be written for the one and only Diana Ross." Haley argued as Rachel glared at her.

"No, Haley, you are wrong, okay? The Bodyguard was originally written for Barbra Streisand."

"No, Rachel you are wrong." Haley shook her head. "Boy how I'd love to slap you right now."

"It wasn't!" Rachel shot back.

"Actually, Rachel, it was supposed to be Diana Ross and Steve McQueen back in the '70s."

"Thank you Mr. Schue!" Haley said, sarcasm rising in her tone.

"I've been doing some research to prepare for this week's lesson." Mr. Schue said as he wrote Whitney on the board.

"Oh, my God, yes! It's about time we did a Whitney tribute!" Mercedes cheered.

"Are we sure that's appropriate?" Sam asked.

"You...You did not just ask what I think you asked?" Haley glared at him, as he laughed.

"I just mean, didn't Whitney kind of have a lot of problems?" Sam asked again.

"She had a hard life Sam. And?" Mercedes asked.

"Look, this week isn't about passing judgement on Whitney. It's about celebrating her legacy, honoring her memory, her accomplishments." Mr. Schue explained.

"Which I will happily list for you." Kurt added.

"But I also want you guys to use her songs to get underneath your own feelings. To express and explore what's really going on with you."

"I don't get it, Mr. Schue. What's really going on with us?" Santana asked.

"Well, for most of you, these next few weeks will be your last at McKinley. Lots of changes coming up, lots of...Saying good-bye. To your friends, to your significant others, to the last four years of your life. For a young person, all that transition can be overwhelming. So it's easier to focus on other things. Like not being able to say goodbye to Whitney."

"What are you talking about?" Santana asked.

"Santana, it's okay. I get it. You're hanging on to Whitney because it's difficult to handle the upheaval in your lives."

"We're hanging on to Whitney because she was incredible and we love her, so don't put your baggage on us." Santana scoffed, annoyed.

"You guys, Mr. Schue's attempt to understand us, though misguided, doesn't matter. What matters is that I start rehearsing Whitney's version of The Star Spangled Banner."

Haley scoffed, rolling her eyes. "There's always a 'you' involved in everything. Maybe you can hop into that movie company intro with the mountain and stars and we can glue you to the intro." She finished her rant. "Oh and yes you would be stuck there forever with no guaranteed return."

Sam watched her rant amused with her sarcasm and just because he loved her. After Haley ranted, she turned and set him a small smile, which he returned.

----

"Haley, you're up!" Mr. Schue said, as Haley smiled, before she got up onstage in the auditorium and took her place in front of the microphone.

"As you all know, I've struggled through many adversities, but I've also overcome everything. Throughout that time, I found it difficult to love myself, but I am coming to love who I am. This song kind of says it all." She said, as she cued the band. "Hit it!"

Everyone cheered throughout her performance. She saw Sam recording her again, but he sent her a proud smile. She saw the unholy trinity swaying and waving their phones with lights on. She saw Kurt crying, as Blaine comforted him. She saw Rachel and Finn smiling. Everyone else sent her amused and proud smiles that the girl was finally learning to accept who she was.

After she was finished, Sam ran up onstage to engulf her in a hug, dipping her over, as they kissed, and she held her arm around his neck for support.

"WANKY." Santana commented.

Everyone eventually went to join the huge group hug, with Haley in the middle. "A-ah guys I c-can't b-breathe." She choked as they all laughed.

----

The week had been speeding by, even Haley was surprised at how fast the weeks were flying by. She was really sad about saying goodbye to her friends leaving, but she didn't want to get sappy yet.

"Hey, some great Whitney songs so far this week, guys. I'm really proud of the way you guys have been conjuring up the emotions you feel towards her as we begin to move on and say good-bye."

"Mr. Schue, I've been going with Quinn to her rehab this week." Joe began, as he walked to retrieve his guitar. "We started working on a Whitney song together that we'd like to share."

"Wow, just wanky." Santana and Haley commented, as Quinn giggled.

"Not sure how it's gonna help anyone say good-bye, but it's a song we both really dig."

Everyone clapped when the song was finished.

"Ooh QUINNNNNNN." Haley cheered, teasingly, as Quinn smirked, but laughed as she looked at Haley. "Please don't start."

----

"So Quinn, when you sang Saving All My Love For You with Joe yesterday, it sure felt like you meant it." Mercedes teased, as the girls hung in the bathroom.

"You guys seemed like a lot more than just singing partners." Rachel said in a sing-songy voice.

"I don't know, Joe's really pretty, but I heard she doesn't shave her armpits." Brittany commented.

"Joe and I are just friends. Nothing else is gonna happen." Quinn clarified, sternly.

"But you want it to, don't you?" Tina asked.

"Doesn't matter what I want. I've said good-bye to that part of my life. Joe took me to rehab the other day, and we had a moment, and before we kissed, he pulled away. Grossed out by me and my chair." Quinn explained.

"Honey, it doesn't mean he was grossed out... He is hesitant because he doesn't want to rush things. I can tell, and everyone else can too, that he likes you." Haley commented as she was reapplying her makeup, while Brittany was doing her hair.

"Quinn, I'm-I'm so sorry." Stammered Rachel.

"I don't want to hear that tone. Joe's not into me. I don't blame him. Who would be?"

"Q..." Haley called as the girls watched Quinn wheel herself out of the bathroom. Haley ran after her, only stopping when she lost her in the crowd.

----

"Sam?" Haley called walking into a familiar hallway, it was decked with rose petals, and there were photos of them hung on the lockers.

"Hey." He approached her.

"Why does this hallway give me deja-vu?" She asked, as she chuckled.

"It's where we met over a year and a half ago." He answered, as she had a moment of realization.

"Oh, that's why!" She commented, making them both laugh. "I'm loving all the photos and roses, my favorite flower." She smiled as he twirled her into his arms. He then pulled away, to look down at her.

"So I have a yes or no question for you."

"Mhm." She whispered.

"But first I'm going to sing to you."

"Wait...you were opposed to Whitney almost a week ago." She began, before he interjected.

"Please just listen?" He asked.

{YOU GIVE GOOD LOVE-SUNG BY SAM EVANS AND HALEY ALDRIN}

Throughout the song, they sang and danced lovingly, in the hallway as rose petals fell, courtesy of Brittany who was laying on top of the locker while Santana lay on top the other locker.

As the song finished, Haley couldn't help but cry tears of happiness. Sam laughed as he wiped the tears from her face, as he took her hands in his, looking down at her.

"I have a question for you." He started, as she looked up at him into his eyes. "I was wondering, and hoping that you will do me the honour of going to prom with me?" He asked.

"Of course! I don't see how that is a question, but yes, I'll go with you!" She answered as she jumped into his arms, pressing her lips to his, as he hugged her tighter.

"Wanky." Santana and Brittany muttered from their hiding places.

"You know I love you right?" Haley whispered.

"I do in fact. I'm very aware. I love you too. I don't say it enough." Sam answered as they continued enjoying their moment together.

----

"Did Mr. Schue specifically say that this meeting is mandatory?" Sam asked Haley, who shrugged.

"No..." She answered.

"Well...we don't have to go, we could go to your house." He winked as she rolled her eyes playfully.

"You are dirty, and I mean that in a sexy way...because I'm turned on." She said, as they both chuckled. "However, I believe we shouldn't miss this, it seems important."

He shrugged as they began to walk to the auditorium where the others were slowly gathering.
