《Falling (A Sam Evans Fan Fiction)》The Spanish Teacher

"Alright, guys! Let me ask you something. Where do you think you'll be in the year 2030?" Mr. Schue asked the group as he walked into the choir room.
"Broadway." Chorused Rachel and Kurt. "Twinsies!"
"Walking." Artie answered.
"In jail, or dead. Or both." Puck said.
"Hopefully married to the love of my life, having a successful career, and being a mom to two kids." Haley manifested aloud, as she sent Sam a smile.
"Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you're going to need to be able to speak Spanish. The reality is, by 2030, more people on this planet will be speaking Spanish than any other language. The world is changing. Our culture is changing. And that needs to be reflected in here. So for our next assignment, we're only doing songs written or performed by someone Latin, or of Latin descent. Or English songs performed bilingually." Mr. Schue explained.
"Oh, I'm bilingual." Brittany spoke up.
"Oh honey. What bilingual means is being able to speak two languages fluently. In my case, I can speak three fluently. Spanish, English and French." Haley explained as Brittany shrugged.
"Uh, Mr. Schue, though I love that we're finally getting all Lima Sound Machine in ihere, why now?" Asked Santana.
"Oh, Santana, because it's long overdue. The truth is, I love all things Latin. I mean, I love Latin food, Latin art, Latin people."
"You don't know any Latin people." Scoffed Santana.
"And you have to be careful how you phrase what other cultural things you love." Haley added.
"I know. Um. guys, this is David Martinez. David Martinez, this is the Glee Club."
"Oh my word...wow." Haley muttered, as Sam slapped her playfully. "I know you're jealous, but it's inevitable not to be attracted." She whispered to Sam.
"Hello, everyone. It's a pleasure." David said.
"David here is one of my many Latin friends. And, uh, he's interested in starting his own night school Glee Club, after hours. So, uh, I invited him to come watch us get our duende on."

"Wrong word." Haley commented.
"Duende?" Finn asked, confused.
"Ugh, it means dwarf you ass." Santana replied.
"Now, I'm completely confused. So what's the assignment?" Sam asked.
"To sing, in Spanish, with duende. Which, yes, literally means dwarf, but metaphorically, it means to have Spanish soul. To be filled with Spanish passion." Mr. Schue explained, as everyone stared in confusion.
"Well, can I...Hablar con ellos?" David asked.
"That's...Right..." Mr. Schue said.
"A performance with suede transforms you. Makes you sing, makes you cry, makes you laugh. Makes you want to kiss a person you love. A song sung in Spanish must have duende, or else..."
"Would you mind showing us?" Santana smirked.
"Oh dear God, please do." Kurt begged.
"Be my guest." Mr. Schue said, giving him permission to perform.
"Okay. Well, I'm-I'm not a professional like you guys, but I'll give it a go."
"Now, guys, uh. Remember, Mr. Martinez is here as our guest, okay. Let's create a safe and supportive environment."
Before anyone could say anything, David took off his jacket. "Uno, dos, tres, cuatro!"
{SEXY AND I KNOW IT}
-----
Haley couldn't help but blush as she watched her boyfriend and the other boys perform a mash up of Bamboleo and Hero. The shoes were quite the sight as well. Throughout the performance, Santana kept nudging Haley and teasing her, as Haley just giggled in response.
Near the end of the performance, Sam came and knelt in front of Haley, holding her hands while he sang the last line of his song. She smiled, pretending to fan herself playfully.
"Guys, that was muy serious footwork! Muy means very." Mr. Schue said.
"I was in it mostly for the boots." Kurt commented.
"Yeah, what's the deal with those boots? Because, wow."
"They're Mexican hipster boots. It's kind of like a fad for groups of guys that are into dance music, and we're kind of like a dance crew. Senor Martinez told us about it." Sam explained.

"The teeth, the duende, the bizarre Mexcian fads. Senor Martinez, is, like, the best Spanish teacher ever." Santana said sarcastically. "I can't wait to see your performance, Mr. Schue." She added.
"My performance?" Mr. Schue asked, as Sam took his seat beside Haley who gave him a quick kiss, mumbling her compliments and thoughts.
"Yeah, to defend your Spanish teacher honor. I'm sure you have something muy amazing planned."
----
"Haley, you had a song you wanted to perform?" Mr. Schue asked.
"Yes. I do. Santana will be joining as well." Haley said as she went to stand in the middle of the room.
{Mira Lo Que Has Hecho En Mi (Look What Love Has Done-SUNG BY HALEY ALDRIN & SANTANA LOPEZ}
Throughout her whole performance, she made eye contact with Sam as he sent her a proud smile. Santana went up and sang in front of Brittany, sending her a smile.
"Well done girls." Mr. Schue praised them as they finished.
"He didn't speak in Spanish." Haley muttered under her breath.
"Thank God." Santana said.

{LA ISLA BONITA-SUNG BY SANTANA LOPEZ AND DAVID MARTINEZ}
"Ladies and gentlemen, David Martinez." Santana said, gesturing toward David as everyone clapped.
"Santana, fantástico. David, I'm just a little...I don't know...Confused about your participation here."
"And, hey, wasn't that number fantastic, and truly authentic?" Santana asked, defending David.
"Thank you very much, everyone. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a stack of night school exams on my desk that won't grade themselves, so buenas noches. Muchas gracias."
"Bye-bye." Santana said, as everyone clapped. "Well, Mr. Schue, the floor is all yours."
Santana and Haley remained annoyed as Mr. Schue performed A Little Less Conversation.
"I can't even." Haley said, anger interlaced in her voice.
"Muchas gracias." Mr. Schue said as he finished. He turned to Santana. "It was you. You're the one who complained to Principal Figgins about me."
"Yeah, and I'd do it all over again after that performance." Santana nodded.
"You're messing with adult things here, Santana. This is my job. This is my life."
"And this is my education, and it's not a joke to me, although it seems to be one to you." She retorted.
"What are you talking about? They all loved my performance."
"Because they don't know any better. They aren't Latinix or even too aware of the cultural stereotypes." Haley pointed out. "Where as Santana is Latina, and I'm half Latina. We understand. We struggle with racism and cultural approbation, the list goes on, Mr. Schue."
"You're their teacher. You went from La Cucaracha to a bullfighting mariachi. Why don't you just dress up as the Taco Bell Chihuahua and bark the theme song to Dora the Explorer? You don't even know enough to be embarrassed about these stereotypes that you're perpetuating." Santana explained.
"It's considered cultural appropriation when someone who isn't a person of color dresses up in the outfits." Haley explained. "Since you are white, you are basically exploiting the Latinix culture. You are white which means that you have more privilege, you aren't paying reasonable homage to this culture. Sure we get you are trying to acknowledge and celebrate Latin art, music, etc...but you might want to check your resources and privileges before you do."
"That's not fair."
"Isn't it? What did you want to be when you grew up? Why did you become a Spanish teacher, Mr. Schue?"
"Because...It was the only teaching position open at the time."
"I want to remind you of something that an amazing teacher once taught me. Without passion, you can't succeed." Santana said with a small smile.
"Who taught you that?"
"You did. And you do. When you teach Glee." She shrugged.

The Edge of Endless
Due to some unforseen and significant life events, this story will be on hiatus for a time. Reborn into a strange but familiar world, Alex makes it his mission to uncover the mysteries of governments, gods, and the arcane realm known only (and inaccurately) as the Unending Depths. Slowly but surely, he grows in ability and meets new and interesting people. tEoE is an epic fantasy LitRPG with a focus on plot, writing, and hopefully original twists on the standard formula of 'MC picks cool class, levels up'. Give it a read if any of the following appeals to you: > 3000-5000 words per chapter, chapters released at least once per week, usually several times. Expect good grammar. > Story focus on illusions, secrets, and traps (along with the usual combat and character stuff). > Progression fantasy, but one where progress is meant to feel earned, moderately paced, and reasonable. Some advantages, but not big, unfair ones. > If a random reader can work out that putting a big rock in a bag of holding, lifting it, and then dropping the rock is free energy, then so could an adventurer who's owned a bag of holding for twenty years. Side characters have brains too. > Blue boxes! Levels! [Classes]! [Skills]! Loot! > No uncomfortable sexist undertones. Ambivalent about including relationships. Definitely no harems. There are a number of arcs planned and this will be ongoing for some time. I am very appreciative of the kind reviews and comments left so far.
