It was just the next day when everything went downhill.
I spent the whole day with (Y/N), as usual. But today was different. I was practically hugging him the whole time, and I could tell he was feeling more comfortable with me clinging to his arm, keeping watch for anyone who might try to verbally or physically attack him.
Oobleck noticed the way I clung to him, and he smiled at us.
"You two seem happy," he said.
"We're together," I beamed, my smile growing.
He smiled. "Congratulations. Anyway..."
He continued his lecture. I wish I'd heard Cardin plotting with his friends behind us.
Later that day, we headed to the cliffside to look over Vale again. I sat with him, resting my head on his shoulder. I was happier than I'd ever been. Everything was perfect.
Well, almost perfect.
"I wish we didn't have all those others," (Y/N) said. "Everyone who hates me."
I thought for a moment. I didn't want him to put up with those people. I wanted him to be happy, and not have to depend on me, though I loved how clingy he was.
Then, I got an idea.
"What if we left?" I asked.
He looked at me. "What do you mean?"
"You know," I said. "Get our teammates, and maybe Team JNPR, and we just leave. Be Huntsmen and Huntresses early. We might be a little rusty since, you know, we're leaving early. But at least you won't have to deal with the others."
He was silent for a moment, thinking about what to do.
"Sure," he said.
I smiled. "Okay. Come on, let's go tell the others!"
I stood up, and tried to drag him, when I heard someone behind me.
"You're not telling the others anything."

We turned around, and I grew defensive as I saw Team CRDL standing behind us, having listened to the whole thing.
"Stay away from him," I said, standing in front of (Y/N).
"What is with you?" he said. "What do you see in this freak?"
"This 'freak' is more human than you'll ever be," I said.
He chuckled. "Give me a break. He's a faunus. We all heard what Oobleck said. His race has killed so many people. How can you be okay with that?"
"Two reasons," I said. "One: he is the descendant of the only one to protect us intentionally. Two: even if he wasn't, he is nothing like them."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Cardin said.
"Go away!" I said. "I will fight you if you go anywhere near him! You're already pushing your limit!"
He chuckled. "You can barely take me on."
He walked over to me, and stood right in front of me.
"I'm only going to ask this once," he said. "Step. Aside."
"Good," I said. "Then I only have to tell you once. Back. Off."
"Fine," he said. "I'll move you myself."
He grabbed me by the shirt collar, and tossed me aside.
I desperately stood up, and tried to get to (Y/N) as Cardin grabbed him by the shirt collar. But his teammates grabbed my arms, and held me back as I cried out to him.
"Think you can just toss me away with your dumb tail like that?" Cardin said. "I'm going to beat you down until every bone in your body is broken, and nobody's going to care. You know why? Because you're nothing!"
Suddenly, (Y/N) grabbed his hand, pulled it off his shirt, and bit him. And, to my horror, I could see blood pouring down his hand!

Cardin screamed in pain.
"Let go!" he shouted.
But (Y/N) only bit down harder, and more blood poured out.
As horrified as I was, I had to admit, there was something... satisfying about seeing Cardin suffer.
"(Y/N)!"
I turned to see Glynda Goodwitch approaching.
"(L/N)!" I shouted, scared what would happen to him if he continued. "Stop!"
But (Y/N) bit down even harder, and Cardin screamed louder than I even knew he could sream.
Glynda raised her wand, and shot (Y/N) down. He fell unconscious. Cardin dropped to the ground, and his teammates let me go.
"(L/N), CRDL," Glynda said, "Ozpin would like to see you. Ms. Rose, go back to your dorm."
I didn't want to leave. I couldn't. (Y/N) needed me. I couldn't abandon him.
"B-But Ms. Goodwitch--"
"Now!"
I gave in, and headed for my dorm, looking at (Y/N) as I went. He tried to follow, but Glynda held him back. He reached out for me, and I could see the heartbreak on his face.
"I'm sorry," I whispered.
I could tell by the look on his face that he understood why I had to leave, even though he didn't like it. He lowered his arm, but the heartbroken look didn't go away.
CRDL recieved a punishment for sure. From what I heard, Ozpin considered expelling them.
But (Y/N) got far worse.
The next time I saw him, he was being escorted to an Atlas Airship, where a cell was waiting for him.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
