《Counter Attack - A TBATE FanFic》The End of the Beginning

I supported my hands on the railing of the balcony, as I stared into the endless night sky. Regis carried a bright ethereal glow as he approached me along the corridor. He then released a piercing aura at me, to grab my attention.

Regis, not now. Leave me alone for a while. He did not back down as the intensity of his aura increasing exponentially.

"Don't bother me" I shouted as Aether permeated out from me, breaking the glass panes.

"I know that there is nothing productive in letting you brood this way. Your thoughts annoy me more than it does to you," he said after he shut his aura off completely.

I sighed, casting my sight to the marble floor. A drizzle started which eventually turned into a steady downpour in the interval of our silence and my regret. The roof above, saved us from the cold rain as it had no plans to subdue.

"Just when I thought that you can finally meet your family and cheer up after the hell we came back from, but you keep seducing despair back to you," he told as he moved close to me.

"What am I supposed to do? I don't even know if I can take this anymore." I muttered as I covered my eyes with my palm.

"And guess what, we have been scratching at the surface of this world all this time masking it under the name of an inter-continental war. It frightens me to even dream of the future." I continued.

"Wow, so you do know fear. You who stood against two of the scythes alone, stormed Agrona's castle and stopped a war between the Asura, and not to forget your crazy death cravings in relic tombs, especially your personal open Lava bath" he revealed as he smirked.

Sylvie spilled her drink in the lounge at the mention of the lava bath, she must have been startled.

People have died, a lot suffered. This all happened due to my-

"They don't resent you for that. They won't anymore if they saw how your life is. Damn, sometimes even I doubt how you managed to survive till now. It is fine to mourn and feel sad for them, but don't live with it at your core. Protect your present." he cried out cutting my flowing thoughts.

"I won't say something as grand as "saving the world" with a straight face, but let's not wither away without a blow to whoever the enemy is." he continued.

"Hell, if you are not convinced yet. After you get your reunion with your family done, let's go grind that Aroa's Requiem and revive everyone," he growled as my face turned pale.

His barrage of good and inspiring words came to a halt while he inspected my state keenly. As he was about to go for a second round I interrupted him.

"Were you always this motivating? My weapon is evolving weirdly." I smirked as he hissed at my comments.

'And here I was worrying that my master will get depressed, now whose job was it again?' Regis said in my mind as Sylvie let out a chuckle while in the hallway below.

Seris entered the balcony, smiling briefly. She patted Regis as he wagged his tail passionately. She then turned to me and gestured to be seated around the table.

"Grey, there are many things to talk about. Where should I begin with? let's see.." she said as she fell in deep thought. I was bewildered by the way she addressed me.

I waited for her to lead the conversation. Regis strolled around while the rest have been tending to Tessia.

"First of all, I am glad that you were able to experience what a family is" she expressed politely.

"Yeah, although I regret that I couldn't protect them, I am still grateful to them" I muttered.

"Now regarding me, I am not Cecilia. I was Cecilia, in my previous life" she declared.

What is the difference? I thought.

"Unlike you guys, I must be completely reincarnated or reborn. I didn't know about the memories of what you call a past life until my parents died when I was 12. At that time, I brushed them off as some weird dreams. But as time passed they became more frequent, detailed, and specific." she continued despite my confusion.

"I possessed my memories from my death," I said, anxiously awaiting her reply.

"I had my first vision of my past life on the night when I saw the lifeless bodies of my parents. Then eventually I had seen enough of them to call it as my past life," she spoke solemnly.

"Yet, I don't feel the consciousness of my presumed past-self right now. I only have these sole memories of grief and tragedy. I couldn't even perceive them as memories of my past life until I heard about you and Nico." she mumbled.

I see, so she doesn't think of herself as Cecilia right now. Possessing someone's memories doesn't transform you into them.

"I see, so the reason you helped me during the war, Tessia and our alliance is because of your memories? " I questioned.

"Even during the war, I didn't have much clarity regarding these memories. But I had an intuition or a feeling that I should help you. I was haunted with guilt when I got to know that Agrona was experimenting on Tessia to resurrect the soul of my past life. I don't understand if it failed because I am supposed to be Cecilia or for some other reason" she apologized.

"It drove me to go up against Agrona and get Tessia out of there" she continued.

Ah, so that was the reason that she blamed herself for what happened to Tessia. There are many more things she seemed to know.

"Now, who are the Devas? and they claim the responsibility for my resurrection. Do you know about it?" I questioned.

"Yes, I do. But, Grey. Now is not the time to know about it. I wish to not burden you with this anymore, not when you are ready to go meet your family and friends." she insisted.

"But, I need to..." I protested before she interjected.

"Grey, please. This is my request. I will take care of Tessia and promise to save her. I guess you are planning to pay a visit to Epheotus after this. It won't be easy. So, I think you should relax and rest while you can" she managed to persuade me.

As I nodded to her request, her communication artifact rang up. It is similar to the one that I possessed.

"Greetings, Scythe Seris" a male voice emerged from her artifact.

She excused herself before tending to the transmission.

"What is the current situation? Cylrit" Seris interrogated her retainer Cylrit.

"We, along with the Vritras have returned to Alacrya. We were assembled outside the destroyed castle." Cylrit reported as Seris shot a surprised look at me which made me scratch my cheek.

"Lord Agrona has ordered us to treat and then rally the combat forces." my senses heightened as I heard Cylrit said that.

Seris gestured to me after noticing my anxiety.

"Is it for another attack on Dicathen or perhaps Epheotus?" Seris questioned her retainer.

"No, he was concerned over the unknown enemies approaching from the far east, the opposite side of Dicathen," he revealed.

I sprang out of my chair while it caught Regis and Sylvie's attention. Seris gulped before continuing her conversation.

"What are the estimated numbers? Do we have their location traced?" Seris asked.

"We were not informed of the numbers of the enemy, but it is estimated by Lord Agrona that they might reach here in the span of 2 weeks" Cylrit informed

They must be the people from the undiscovered continents, as revealed by the Devas. Why are they acting now? A better question may be, "why have they not contacted us between all these years?"

"I must attend somewhere else, take care of yourself, lady Seris." Cylrit made his farewell as the glow from the artifact subsided.

We must wait and see how Agrona shall resolve this. If things get out of hand, I need to head out there. But, what comes right now is, meeting my mom and everyone.

We departed from Ashebern the next morning after the rain stopped. While leaving Tessia in the care of both Seris and Caera. We flew to the sky after bidding our farewells. We are headed to the underground chamber under the Xyrus city as suggested by Virion.

To the place where people thought they had lost me, with the freedom we finally achieved since the end of the war, I, Arthur Leywin raced forward yet another time, to live my life to its fullest with the end nowhere in sight.

The cargo was carefully carried into the train. This Train is apparently a new invention of the renowned researcher Gideon. It stretched meters long with its metallic body and the large head, which is referred to as an Engine.

The news about the retreat of enemy troops spread like wildfire among the citizens and refugees of Dicathen in no time. Many started to come out of their hiding and started to work on their settlements. As for the soldiers, many nobles, and those who contributed to the war and the continent actively, have been requested to visit the main refugee camp in the deserts of Darv.

We finally made it. After all the gruesome turns and deaths, we now achieved what we all fought for. I tried to not let my thoughts go into disarray.

My attention shifted to the family handling their luggage. I approached them and offered my help. They are the Helstea family, to who I am acting as an escort right now. They had a common attire. The family head, Vincent Helstea conversed with the manager of this underground train station beneath the Xyrus city.

"I was worried that people may not return to their usual lifestyle anytime now, even with the war ended. But, I see that the leaders of most regions are doing their best to encourage them." Lilia Helstea stated.

"As expected of Lord Virion, things are moving forward really quick, I hope that we all can live in peace from now on." her mother, Tabitha Helstea exclaimed.

"By the way, miss Jasmine, do you know anything regarding "the surprise" that commander Virion has spoken of during the mass announcement?" Lilia questioned.

"I have no idea, yet the commander seemed to be in high spirits," I said as I waved my head across.

"Well, sure, winning back our homeland can surely cause someone to be like that." Tabitha giggled.

"There must be something more to it, I have never seen this side of the commander" Lilia doubted despite her mother sighing at her.

People boarded the train as smoke released from the top with the sound of a horn. It urged the people to hop onto the several entrances etched onto each cart of the train. Since this is the first time, many people were nervous and part excited.

"let's board it" Vincent declared as he began inspecting our reservation while adjusting his glasses.

We then headed to the assigned cart after searching it for a few minutes. The intensity of the horn increased, signaling its departure. The Helstea family entered the cart and probed for their seats.

I gazed at the well-maintained station from the elevated entrance of the train's cart. My sight stuck at the exit of the tunnel which is connected to this station. The train began to move as three silhouettes entered the station. I tried to get a clear sight of them.

I doubted my eyes as I saw a female child riding on a man's shoulder along with their pet dog? or maybe a wolf! The man bickered with his pet while the girl on his shoulders laughed cheerily. He rushed towards the leaving train while the child held his forehead firmly. The passengers cheered in joy with the new mode of transport.

"Hey, no mana beasts are allowed into the station." the manager shouted pointing at their pet black wolf with purple glints.

The wolf growled before it vanished into thin air, leaving an ethereal aura that diffused towards the man. They erupted into laughter while eventually catching up with the far end of the train.

As he was about to jump onto the entrance far away, he then noticed me staring intently. I, confused at my sudden interest took cover. After a pause, I yet again peeked out only to frown at the man with wheat-like white hair and golden eyes who carried a child on his shoulders.

He smiled as he held out his arm, to reach the guard rail of the entrance. The train caught its pace. I hed my breath inside, as if in anticipation for something to occur. I quickly took his arm and dragged him into the cart while I got a glance at his face.

My senses sharped, while I turned around to confirm the face that I saw before.

"Thank you, and hey there, Jasmine!" a familiar voice came from that familiar face.

It is Arthur, it is Art. He is right before me. Fine and healthy. The girl on his shoulders must be his bond. I reached out my hands slowly to his face while sobbing and battling the welling tears. He took me into an embrace after which my tolerance to my weeping broke.

"Thank you for returning Arthur, I...I...," I wanted to say more, but struggled due to my parched throat.

The Helstea family rushed towards us in awe. They should have been doubting their eyes.

"So this is the surprise that Commander Virion was talking about! now I get it," Vincent Helstea said as he jumped in joy.

Alice Leywin's POV:

The soldiers and warriors returned to the Refugee camp yesterday. The lances and commander Virion have returned without many casualties. Although, the soldiers on Lance Bairon's raid team suffered injuries due to an ambush from the enemy.

Commander Virion announced our victory through mass communication across all the regions. He then personally invited important people here, to celebrate and also mentioned something about a surprise.

I volunteered myself to help them using the healing arts. Thankfully, not many suffered grave injuries, other than lance Bairon, prince Curtis and few soldiers. I approached Bairon as I tend to the deep stabbing on his stomach. I gasped, then let out my aura.

"Do not worry, madam. Your son has gone through even more. This is nothing much compared to what he had suffered" he muttered.

I concentrated on clotting the blood and then managed to close the wound. Elder Rinia helped prince Curtis.

"Mom.." Ellie called out to me loudly in excitement before she stopped at the glares from the resting soldiers.

"What is the matter, Ellie?" I mumbled quietly.

She made her way to me and tried to drag me along with her, elder Rinia smiled as she proceeded to dress Bairon's wounds.

We walked around the hallway before finally reaching the huge dome-like space before the regular entrance.

Many people gathered here along with commander Virion while staring at the boulder entrance with keen eyes. Ellie, pulled me further closer towards the door before we heard a knock from the other side of the entrance.

Everyone moved closer while holding weird cartons as Ellie proceeded to activate the entrance. Commander Virion held his glass of wine in high anticipation. I could feel the intense gazes on the boulder which revealed four people.

"Welcome back home, Arthur!!!" A huge roar erupted from the unison of the voices which shook the very tomb we are in. Flowers, bits of decorated paper, and many such decorations flew in the air.

My mind focused on the name, that they said. Arthur? Is he back? I searched the people at the entrance to find that they were the Helstea family along with Jasmine staring at us dumbfounded.

Why did they mention his name? Is Arthur alive? Is he back? I looked around for anyone to answer my questions.

Everyone awkwardly looked at each other while being let down. Ellie stooped her head and Virion broke his smile until it happened.

"Well----" a voice emerged from behind which was cut by a sharp growl.

Surprised, we turned back to see a wolf-like dog, beside a man with pale blonde hair and a girl with the same hair. My eyes traced to his face, which had golden eyes looking with content and pleasure.

Thank god! I am really glad to be alive, glad to be able to see them again. I am sure that I won't regret for even a second if I have to go to where my husband is, right now. At this heart-melting moment.

"Booo, not fair brother. No flexing your abilities" Ellie teased as Boo copied her stance.

He waved his palm at us as the girl, Sylvie chopped the dog or maybe a wolf with her palm.

Cheers erupted from the people, while commander Virion nodded at me. I took small steps, while not letting my sight slip away from them. It felt as if everyone waited this long for this fated reunion. They stood still, making way for me while several congratulated, cheered me.

I got a closer look at his face and his changed features which resembled mine. But they are of no concern, my son returned to me. After all this time, while everyone lost hope, I held onto the miracle that my son is, as time passed my hope seemed to wither away. Even I might have eventually given up in the far future.

But here he is, standing tall in front of me, with a pleasing smile and an absolute demeanor. My eyes flooded, as I held his face in both of my palms. I then patted Sylvie before she came close to embrace me.

I pulled Arthur close as Ellie rushed to hold us all, while tears continued to flow. This is my family, we were finally able to get together. Rey, are you seeing this? I am living one of the best moments in my life right now. Let me share more with you when my time will come.

The atmosphere turned into one of a celebration, which utterly destroyed the fact that we are inside a Refugee camp. Many nobles, warriors and others who were once associated with my son arrived. Well, it was fun watching their reactions as the ethereal wolf, Regis ridiculed everyone while cheerfully.

Feast and drinks are served as the people enjoyed themselves without a care for their social standing. Commander Virion has the brightest smile of all as most couldn't believe their eyes.

Time passed while Arthur and the rest caught up with princess Kathyln, Prince Curtis, the lances, Twin Horns, Mr. Gideon, his colleagues from the former Xyrus academy. He then described his absence all this time along with Regis, who seemed to have taken care of Arthur according to his words.

His broken mana core, brought grief before Regis mentioned the Aether core, lightening the mood.

He survived right in the enemy continent while probing the tombs to get strong enough to come back. I am grateful, that he was still the same. He even made dependable allies there and fought hard to stop the war between the Asuras.

We stayed late listening to their never-ending adventures and struggles, until at some point everyone fell asleep, while Arthur, Ellie, and Sylvie slept soundly on either side of my lap while Regis suited himself in front of us.

I giggled at their sleeping faces, while I caressed Arthur's head gently. Relief spread over me seeing them sleep comfortably. At this moment, I must be the happiest being alive in the whole world.

I hope times like this spread out forever. I thought as I dozed off while leaning against the wall behind me.
