I stand before him trembling, willing myself not to show the feral beast any fear. My heart shatters into a million miniscule pieces as he snarls. I rest a shaken hand protectively over my belly.

"Christopher..." I whisper as the beast continues to circle me. I calm my breathing down, counting down just as he prepares to lunge at me.

Three. He steps back.

Two. He crouches.

One. He attacks
