《▪︎THE LUNA▪︎Book 1》Chapter thirty one

"You know, any normal person would've let us in by now." I say agitatedly as Reagan simply stares at Christopher humorously. He rolls his eyes once he meets mine but chuckles lightly when he looks back at Christopher. "It's a good thing I'm a werewolf then." He smiles sweetly at me before running a hand through his hair. His hair has always been supper soft and silky, something we oddly have in common although mine doesn't look like it in plain sight. I raise an eyebrow and stare at him, no trace of laughter to be found on my face. He has grown up since graduation. He no longer wears his thick rimed glasses and has become a whole lot stronger. He's now at the highest ranking of fighters in the pack, with me following in suite. I may not look it, but I am it. According to dad, male wolves show full maturity between the ages seventeen to twenty years. He now sits at an average height of 6 ft 1. If anyone we knew a long time ago were to see us now, they'd think he's the older twin instead of me.

"Just let them in already." Anna's voice sounds out from somewhere behind him. I can't really tell where she is with his towering build blocking anything beyond the door frame. Thinking about it now, it really is weird that most males around me could be the size of King Kong if they wanted. Christopher leans down to my ear and whispers. "That's the beauty of it." I don't have to turn my head to tell if he's smirking or not. His tone speaks for itself. I almost let a giggle slip from the way his breath tickles my ear. Sensing Reagan's discomfort, he nibbles on my ear lobe, the graze of his lips on my skin making me squirm internally.

Reagan growls at Christopher to which he smirks at and places his hand on my waist. I roll my eyes at the both of them. Boys.

Anna suddenly appears from his side and stands in front of him. "Sorry Hails. Someone has decided they would be a butt head today." She adds emphasis on someone and turns slightly to face Reagan momentarily. He smiles sheepishly at her and rests his head at the crook of her neck. His hands wrap around her waist so comfortably as if they've always belonged there. Her eyes roll playfully at him as she slightly pinches his arm. "Hey Christopher." She chuckles slightly when Reagan whimpers in slight pain. She really is dangerous with her fingers. Let's just say it would be wise not to touch her when she's upset. Last Sunday, Reagan finished her favorite chocolate chip cookies and ended up with red fingernail marks all over his upper arm while trying to hug her. "Hey Anna." Christopher chuckles at the couple as his other hand drums on my hip bone.

I do a little happy dance in my seat when the mashed potatoes are passed to me. The delicious scent is carried by the steam that sparkles in the sun as it floods into my nostrils. "Don't smile like that sweetie. You look like an evil leprechaun that just stole a pot of gold." Claire states as everyone around the table bursts out in laughter. I smile at her but still blush at the sudden attention from everyone.

Christopher's silent chuckles build up but immediately die down when I slowly turn to him with raised eyebrows. He covers up his laugh with a small cough and reaches out for my hand. I simply slap his hand away before grumbling silently on how I don't resemble a leprechaun. Clearly not getting the message, Christopher's hand settles on the exposed skin at the small of my back and rubs it soothingly as I serve my mash potatoes. I can feel my scowl start to loosen up as he continues with the mollifying action. The tingles dance underneath my skin like mini ballerinas, sinking deep into my spine in a rhythmic manner.

I turn to my left to face him, a false irritated scowl still intact. Christopher gives me a heart stopping smile as one of his fingers rub my now even more exposed skin in circles. His fingers momentarily adjust the placement of the strings, slightly loosening up the zipper. Remind me again why I still own open back clothing? "Because, you look sexy in them." He huskily whispers as my cheeks and ears heat up. My heart beats rapidly. Not only from Christopher's comment but from hopes that father didn't hear what he said.

Earlier on after Christopher and I had arrived, mother forced the two of us to have a quick shower, separately of course much to Christopher's dismay. I can tell Christopher is starting to warm up to her as if she were his own mother. Carson lent him his jeans and and t-shirt that was too seemingly fitting. To which I'm not complaining about, not at all. I ended up wearing a backless summer dress with spaghetti straps.

"I don't want to be alpha anymore." I blurt out, shifting my weight onto one foot as my toes the other foot wiggle around on in my sandles. Father looks up from his paper work and slides his reading glasses off. It's been a while since I last saw him in them.

A year after him and mother had mated, her ex boyfriend and a bunch of rogues attacked them randomly when they were out on a run outside the territory. The fight was brutal but father made it out alive. As for the rest, they were either dead by the ending of the attack or were taking in their final breaths. Although father was successful, it doesn't mean he didn't come out without a scratch. At some point during the ambush, one of the rogues clawed at his temples, aiming for his eye but missed. Sadly the rouge's intention was carried through because when that happened, a vein that connects to father's tear duct was damaged, leaving his eye almost not functioning in any way. Luckily for him, he got to heal well and went through some surgeries to help his sight on the limp eye. He can see properly most of the time but is reminded every now and then by the pack doctor, and close family friend to wear his prescribed contacts or glasses when his vision starts to blur.

I glance down to my feet as my face pales over. Crap crap crap. Crap! Okay maybe if I act like I never said anything then maybe he'll assume I said nothing at all. Yeah...that could probably work. "Hayley," father's voice speaks up from beside me. I raise my hand and hold my forehead not only startled by father's voice, but already stressed from father's impending wrath. I raise my head to meet his concerned stare. I smile lightly at him before directing my gaze to the window. It fits 3/4 of the wall in length and width, bringing in the perfect amount of sunlight. Originally, it wasn't there but father had it made because mother loved to spend her time here (and still does). Not to mention her natural obsession with sunlight, a character trait a gladly share with her.

"Baby girl, are you okay?" He places his arm on my shoulder and squeezes it comfortingly, respecting my personal space by keeping some distance between us that isn't awkwardly far. "Yeah, never better." My smile grows wider as I begin to notice the small flecks of dust that sparkle in the sunlight. "If that's the case then why are you suddenly dropping the alpha position?" My head snaps at him, a bit surprised that I didn't get whiplashed. " I'm not dropping the position. I'm just trying to put others before me for once." I chuckle at my choice of words, seeing as father once used them on me a few years back when I refused to share my ice cream with Reagan. Well excuse me for having cravings during my period.

I see father tense up at the memory. I had refused to talk to him for a week after I shoved the whole tub of ice cream at Reagan. Explaining why I didn't want to share could have saved everyone the drama but that would've simply been extremely awkward. Talking to your father about your period isn't exactly a walk in the park, now is it? Well for me it isn't.

"I'm serious pa. I've been doing some thinking for quite some time now and I realized, there's no point of becoming alpha and having to merge with Christopher's pack when I know Reagan is more than capable of being an amazing alpha." Earlier at the beginning of summer, Christopher and I had agreed to merge the packs to make things easier on both of us instead of having to live in separate houses in different territories.

"Are you sure?" He asks a little too unconvinced about my decision. I grin at him reassuringly as I take my hand in his and nod. "Absolutely. I love Christopher and I'm more than willing to sacrifice this for him. It feels right and for once, I'm actually listening to my instincts and choosing to stay by my mates side." My mark tingles at the mention of Christopher. I hide the smile tugging at my lips but my cheeks and ears still burn at the thought of him. If mother was in here at my small proclaim, she would've awed loudly and pinched my cheeks, gushing at how cute I sound.

"It's been settled then, you are no longer in line for the alpha position." Father smiles at me and pulls me in a hug. I'm so glad this went well.

I drop my duffle bag in Christopher's closet, feeling too excited to unpack my clothes for the rest of my stay here. After the nice family dinner and my chat with father, Christopher asked if he could sweep me away for the next week to which father surprisingly agreed to. Normally, I'd spend some nights of the week at Christopher's pack house but never a week. Thinking about it now, he's been acting really strange lately. He always hangs up his phone or puts his laptop away when I walk into the room. I change out of my dress and into a comfy pair of, gray cotton shorts and a white long sleeved shirt.

Walking out of the closet, I slip on one ankle sock, feeling the strange need to dance at this moment. Luckily, Christopher had a large amount of space between his bed, desk and balcony. I connect my iPod to the speakers on his wall and click on the first song that appears. Not bothering to read the name, I turn around and open the blinds, letting a large amount of sunlight to enter the room. My smile grows even more as the song begins to play. Here comes the sun by The Beatles. Huh...

I start to sway around in no particular order, only following the rhythm of the music. Sways become steps, steps become spins, spins become leaps and without realizing, I'm doing an un choreographed danced. I stand on the tips of my toes and begin to spin even more. I feel a rush in my body. Not the bad kind when you know you're about to fall. It's the good kind that makes you even more excited.

As my spins slow down, hands suddenly rest on my hips. My eyes immediately open, not realizing they were shut until now. As soon as I make eye contact with Christopher, I jump on him, engulfing him in a bear hug. He chuckles but complies and wraps his arms around my waist. One hand rubbing my side in a relaxing manner as the other stays in place.

I pull away and stare at him. His eyes sparkle in the sun but have an extra shine to them. He looks at me questioningly but I simply shrug. "I want to be Luna." I say out loud, all sense of composure in my excitement lost. His mouth opens and closes as he searches for words to say but nothing comes out. I nod my head as my smile grows wider. His lips stretch from their slight curve and into a full blown grin.

He spins me around in his arms with no struggle at all. Moments I'm extremely thankful for a strong mate. My head spins as a slight dizziness washes over me. Sensing this, he puts me down, looking slightly unsure of what I told him. "Are you sure?" He sounds a bit worrisome, his eyes searching mine for uncertainty. "I love you, Christopher. And the thought of not being able to see you as much just aggravates me. I'm doing this for me, for us, for our future." My voice comes out shaky, feeling slightly overwhelmed by all this happiness at once.

"I love you." He finally speaks up as the song comes to an end.

Here comes the sun

Here comes the sun and I say

It's alright

It's alright
