《》Chapter 8

Uuuuuuugh. Everything hurts. What happened? I really don't want to open my eyes since I have a splitting headache, so let's use my other senses. Okay, I know that I'm lying down on a bed, since I can feel the fabric and pillow. As far as sound goes, I don't hear much, but there is a faint sound of someone breathing. So I know I'm not alone. Taste won't be very useful right now but I do taste something metallic, so I know that I probably have a cut on my mouth somewhere. Finally smell, I sniff the air and can smell the sterile scent that the nurse's office usually has. So, I'm in the nurse's office. Great.

"Good morning, sleeping beauty," I hear someone say and instantly open my eyes in shock. Which I immediately regret with a groan, closing them again. Ugh, why is he here? Okay, what do I remember last? I was lured into a fight with Luke and his goons. I kicked all of their asses (though it did prove to be challenging). And then Gray showed up. But I can't remember anything after that. I guess I'll have to ask him what happened. Uuuuugh.

"What are you doing here?" I say, with my eyes still closed. Okay, so maybe not the best question to start with.

"Well, that's no way to greet your savior." I can just feel him smirking at his own comment.

"I'm not in the mood Gray. I feel like shit." I slowly start to open my eyes again and sit up, wincing at the sharp pain in my left wrist. Hopefully, that's just a sprain.

"Oof, such language. You're hurting my feelings."

"Look I just need to know what happened, so can you drop the sass for five minutes." I glare at where he's sitting finally getting used to the brightness of the room.

Realizing that I'm serious Gray drops his stupid smirk. "When I found you, you were finishing off the last alpha. You passed out and I carried you here. The nurse went to go take care of the others an hour ago."

"So why are you still here?"

"Well, the nurse told me to wait here with you, plus this is a good excuse for me to miss class so I don't mind." Of course, that's the reason, why am I not surprised. "Also, believe it or not but, I wanted to make sure that you weren't dead or something," he says, looking away from me. Wait, was he actually worried about me?

"Wait, really?"

"Yeah," he says, looking me in the eye now. He looks sincere, but no, there's no way. He's probably worried that he'll get in trouble somehow because I got injured. Yeah that's it.

Although now that I think about it, this probably WAS Gray's fault. I mean him and Luke are really close so I'm sure Luke told him about his plan. Which would explain how he knew where the fight was in the first place, and he "just so happened" to appear when it was over. Gray's the main one who wanted me to "know my place" so who's to say that he didn't plan all of this so that he could get off scot free!

"Heh, you almost had me fooled there for a second," I say, shaking my head.

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh please. Am I really supposed to think that you're actually worried about me? You already knew that this was going to happen, you just wanted to make sure that you didn't get in trouble."

"What?!" Gray jumps to his feet and glowers at me. "I had no idea that Luke was planning on doing this! Plus, do you really think that I would stoop so low as to have a group of people beat you up. Come on, Eli."

"Gee, I don't know Gray, you didn't seem to hesitate using your alpha voice on me so I would "know my place"," I growl.

"That was an accident. And I couldn't even use it until recently. Besides I carried your ass all the way here when I could have left you outside with them."

"WOW, such language coming from you Gray, now you're hurting MY feelings."

He growls at me. "You know what, forget this. Staying here with you isn't worth it, I'd rather go to class. Have fun being paranoid and pathetic," he says, turning to leave.

"The only pathetic one is you, running away from the only person you can't win against. I fear for how long this pack will last with you as head alpha."

Gray freezes at the door way. Shit. Why did I say that? In the blink of an eye he's standing next to my bed. He grabs my left wrist and pulls me up to his eye level. I cry out in pain but he clearly doesn't care starring me down with his now golden, rage filled alpha eyes.

"I tried to be nice but you're too stupid to understand that, so listen good. I DID NOT plan any of this, Luke did. But you do need to realize this. You. Are. An. Omega. You might be tough shit now but soon we'll all surpass you and no alpha will want an omega who thinks they're better than them. So, do yourself a favor and quit while your ahead, before you end up alone and useless. "

I nod my head and Gray let's go of my wrist. He leaves the room in a huff, and I curl up on the bed cradling my aching wrist. I try to forget his harsh words but they keep repeating in my head, over and over again. Will I really become that weak in the future? I don't want that to be the case but I was barely able to take down those alphas out there. So, what will happen when they get older and bigger? What if I have to constantly be protected by others, like Atlantis? What if I really am useless?

I shouldn't even be caring about what Gray said, but tears still start to spill out. I bury my face into the pillow hoping that it will muffle my sobs. Stupid omega emotions, why can't I be strong too?

I practically jump out of my skin from the voice's outburst. I frantically look around for its source, wiping my wet face, but no one else is in the room. Who was that?

M-my wolf?

Oh. Am I going to turn into my wolf form now?

It's okay, but Gray's right. Maybe I should just accept my place in life.

I guess, so.

I wipe away the rest of my tears with some nearby tissues and sit up again.

You know what, you're right.

I just need to work smarter, not harder. Whatever I may lack in the future I can improve on other skills to make up for it. And I have Milo to remind me of everything I need to know.

And screw Gray! If he thinks I'm so weak then I don't need to associate myself with someone so toxic and moronic. He can jump of a cliff for all I care.

Thanks Spark, from now on I'm going to fully embrace being an omega, and work on my own type of strength!

The nurse walks into the room looking exhausted, seeing that I'm awake she comes over to me. "Well I'm glad that your awake. When you first came in, I thought you got jumped by those alphas, but it seems like the opposite happened. A few of them had to be sent to the hospital however, most were sent to the principal's office. By the way, where did Gray go?"

"He went back to class."

"Huh, well it was nice of him to bring you in, make sure you thank him later today," she says grabbing her giant first aid kit off of her desk.

"Sure"

"Now, let me take a look at that wrist of yours so we can fix you up before your next class."

"I OTTA CANCEL THE WHOLE SEASON FOR THE STUNT MOST OF YOU PULLED TODAY. WHEN YOU'RE NO LONGER SUSPENDED ALL OF YOU WILL BE RUNNING LAPS UNTIL YOU PASS OUT OR PUKE!! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!!!"

"Yes, coach!"

Right now, coach is chewing out everyone at practice who was involved in, or knew about the big ambush beforehand. Which was basically everyone except for Gray, Victor, and I. I should have told coach that Gray was in on it too, but there isn't any proof to support that. The good news is that I only ended up with a couple of cuts and a sprained wrist, while those who fought look like they got ran over. I appreciate what coach is doing right now, which makes this next step hard to do.

"Excuse me coach I have something that I would like to announce," I say, cutting off his tirade.

"The floor is yours Eli."

"Thank you. For most of my life I've enjoyed playing basketball and winning games. But lately because of recent discoveries my enjoyment has diminished greatly. I just don't want to play on a team that clearly doesn't want me, so I'm quitting the basketball team starting today."

Again, if tensions weren't so high right now, I would be laughing from all of the shocked looks I'm seeing. "Well I'm not surprised that you would choose to do this after today, but is there any possibility that you might reconsider? You are one of our star players after all," coach says.

"Sorry coach, but I'd rather leave now before I grow to dislike basketball."

"Well it was nice having you on the team while it lasted. I hope that whatever you do next you excel in it." I hand coach my jersey and he shakes my hand. Picking up my bag I leave the gym not even bothering to look back at the "team" that betrayed me. I don't know what will happen next for me, but I know that I'll do my best overcome it!
