《Running After Her》Chapter 1

Katarina

I thought college would be more fun. But in between studying and practice I haven't talked to a single soul. Perks of a D1 athlete I guess.

I walk into the locker room setting down my bag as I begin changing. "Nervous for your first game?" Holy fuck the first human contact Ive had in a while. You may think im exaggerating but I swear im not.

"Im actually-" She cuts me off before I can even finish my sentence. "Its alright though freshman's are usually benched until they can prove themselves."

I turn around about to tell her im D1 but her eyes widen suprised. "Oh god. Your-" Yeah I should have had this coming. Having a professional soccer player as a dad in one of the best teams in the world has its downsides.

I let her fangirl for about three minutes until she finally stops out of breath. "Im sorry. I'm Layla nice to meet you." I hold out my hand for her to shake it.

"Katarina-"

"Vasquez." She finishes off for me in which I nod. "It's really cool meeting you I'm sorry if I freaked you out you probably get those all the time." Yeah I do. Only ones who haven't reacted like that are those who have no clue how a game of soccer is even played.

Even then there are some people who have no idea how to play the game but take a picture with me anyways to show off to a friend. It gets quite tiring after a while. Actually it was never fun to begin with.

"Alright guys. First game. Make it count." The coach says so enthusiastically. Note the sarcasm. "Shes going through a divorce." Layla whispers behind me and the coach turns her head creepily to the side probably hearing her.

Terrifying.

I follow everyone out to the field but I bump into someone on my way. I hit them with the most flirtatious move ever by pulling them to my waist.

Jesus I'm awesome.

Oh god. Never mind. I take back everything I just did now as I look down at the head full of brown hair. I let go making her stumble to the ground but Victoria holds onto the door for balance.

"Wow thanks for the help." She says her voice dripping with sarcasm. No problem pretty girl. "Come to cheer me on? Are you that obsessed?" I snarl back.

"Never. I'm here for a friend." Of course she is. I do vividly remember that one time she went to one of my games in high school and she punched me in the face for saying some nasty shit, embarrassing her in front of her friends.

This may paint me as the bad guy but shes not so innocent either. She also swore to never go to a soccer game again because I ruined all of them for her.

Shes a drama queen like that.

She walks past making sure to shoulder check me on her way out for good measure. I let out a little chuckle at that. She hurts people head on, but doesn't she know if you really want to hurt someone you have to do it in secret and let others do the work for you.

Victoria

I cant believe I fucking ran into her.

You knew the outcome of coming to a soccer game in which you knew she was gonna play but you went anyways Vic.

I shut the voice in my head up taking my seat on the bench. Front row. When Chloe said front row seats I thought she meant with the crowd not with the fucking coaches and players.

I know shes my roommate and is trying to be nice but I might strangle her after the game. I watch her out on the field stretching and then she looks up waving at me with a huge smile on my face.

I give her an awkward thumbs up in which I immediately regret when I see Kate on the sideline letting out a scoffed laugh. She goes back to stretching out her neck and she almost looks lethal.

Kind of hot.

Im just gonna pretend I didn't just say that. The ref lets out a whistle and the game begins. I sit there for what feels like hours as no team makes a goal. At one point the other team is close to making one but of course Katarina takes the ball passing it over to another teammate.

Well expected honestly. She's really great at the sport.

I look down at my phone for a few minutes searching on instagram for anything honestly. This game is getting boring. Then I hear screaming. But not the cheering type just really aggressive yelling from one of our coaches.

"What the fuck is she doing! Get back in position number three!" Thats Kate. She zooms past everyone at unimaginable speeds and at one point it happens so quickly but another opponent is right in front of her and she does a trick kicking the ball over her opponent and she makes a goal.

Everyone begins screaming and chanting as her teammates come up to her jumping up and down.

She looks up at me making eye contact and she sticks out her thumb and pinky finger pointing at me then jogs back to her spot. She really did that on purpose didn't she. Was it because I was on my phone?

I roll my eyes at her cockiness. I mean shes a rich brat what more can I say. I mean I am too but I'm a little more civilized than she is.

I bet she doesn't even have the courtesy to make her own bed and asks her roommate to do it for her. Who am I kidding she probably has a room to herself. I on the other hand wanted to get the most out of the college experience.

Which I have for the most part.

I have made a couple of friends but it's difficult making them in between classes and studying.

The game continues and we win in the end 7-0 with most of them made by Katarina but even the ones she didn't make a goal she assisted.

She isn't even supposed to go that far out in the field but whatever.
