《INVITE ME ROUND》Chapter 30

You obeyed and slowly walked towards the patrol car with its lights shining in your eyes. Covering your face with your hand to protect yourself from the brightness, you opened the door.
"I didn't know you were a cop!" you said overwhelmed as you sat down in the passenger seat.
"That's because I'm not," she replied calmly.
"This is my father's car." She started the engine.
"So your father was a policeman?" you asked.
"You're a curious one, aren't you?" Her finger wandered to the car stereo and she turned the volume up a bit.
"Do you know where the campus is?" you asked after a while.
"Do you have classes tomorrow?"
"Yes," you replied.
"Do you want to come to my house anyway?", she looked at you.
"Why?" Your hand travelled to your hair.
"Why not?" she grinned and looked back at the street which was lit by the few street lamps on the side of the road.
"Evelyn...?", your curiosity was unstoppable.
"Huh?"
"What did Lilith mean earlier when she asked you if you still have difficulties with your son?"
"Look, you're really curious. You know that you don't just ask such things out of curiosity, don't you?", she was still focused on the street.
"Yes I'm sorry."
"Well I guess I can tell you.
My son is ill and there was a time when I couldn't cope with it.", she kept it short but you were grateful for every information she gave about herself.
You were disappointed that Lilith never opened up to you like Evelyn.
"I hope that you can keep things to yourself," said Evelyn.
"You can trust me. I'm a trustworthy person," you explained.
"And that's why I like you," she unconsciously put her hand on your knee.
"Tell me something else about yourself. You're married aren't you?" you looked down at your knee.
She noticed your look because her hand immediately grabbed the steering wheel again.
"Yes I am. I have the best husband by far. That fella showed me what love is." You saw Evelyn's face and realized that she was happy.

Did Lilith show you what love is? You weren't sure.
She made you feel things you've never felt before.
But if this was love then you would have been as happy as Evelyn.
"What else? Tell me more." You bit your bottom lip, surprised that she really piqued your curiosity.
"Well, there's not much to tell about me. I'm a mother, a wife and a proud owner of a big house," she boasted.
She reminded you a bit of Lilith.
But the two women were still very different. One seemed loving and caring while the other didn't want to have anything to do with love.
"What do you do for a living?"
"I'm...I'm a doctor," she replied.
"You're a doctor? That's great. Your son must definitely feel comfortable with you." You received an irritated look and decided not to say anything more.
"And you are a student?"
"Yeah..." you replied, realizing there wasn't much to tell about you either.

"Oh could you take off your shoes please? I just cleaned recently." She pointed to the shiny white tiles.
"Of course," Evelyn's house was admirable. It seemed smaller than Lilith's but it was full of life. The furniture and objects were significant. It was as if Evelyn had thought long about the interior design. Everything seemed cozy and inviting.
Lilith's decor was minimalistic and characterless. It was depressing and empty just like her. It was almost like being in a psychopath's house.
"Here," Evelyn gave you a glass of wine.
"Oh thank you..." You continued to look around and the curtains depicting many different flowers caught your attention.
"Sit down," she pointed to a cream colored couch.
You sat down and Evelyn followed you. It was pleasantly warm in the room and there was a scent of lavender in the air.
"Is your son at home?" you asked cautiously.
"Oh I don't know." She shrugged.
"Can I ask you something else?"
"Sure," she took a sip from her wine.
"Was that your son at the party earlier? The one who ran away?"
She hesitated.
"Yes."

"Well he didn't seem ill to me, I saw him-" You couldn't finish your sentence. You just watched Evelyn set her wine glass down on the low wooden table, putting her hands on your cheeks.
Without blinking, you lost yourself in those green eyes that closed moments later. Evelyn's full lips gently touched your upper lip.
She kissed you with such passion that in that moment you were willing to do anything for her.
Her hands travelled up and down your arms. A low moan escaped your mouth when you suddenly felt her hand under your shirt.
Her fingers ran up until you gasped for air.
She let go of you, keeping a hand on your cheek.
"Are you okay?" You saw the concern on her face.
"Y-yes I am. It was just so sudden and..." you thought of Evelyn's husband whom she spoke of like the love of her life. You didn't understand why she had kissed you and she didn't give you an explanation that night either.
She just let you fall asleep on the couch and drived you back to campus the next morning.
"Is something bothering you? Is it because of yesterday?" she asked after she had parked the car in the parking lot.
"Oh no, don't worry about it. I liked the kiss Evelyn. But you're married..."
"I liked the kiss too. I liked it so much that I want to kiss you right away." She grabbed your chin and leaned in for a kiss.
"I hope you know you can't tell this to anyone. Not even your closest friends." You nodded immediately.
You could totally understand her, after all she had a family. Still, Evelyn was the one who kissed you.
"Do you have anything else on your mind? I have a feeling you've been distracted since last night.", she took your hand. It felt comfortable in hers.
"It's not that important. I just have to think about Ms. Ritter. Sometimes she makes me feel like she likes me, but the truth is she can't stand me. I want so much to be liked by her as a student. I just don't want to have any problems.", you couldn't be completely honest with Evelyn about Lilith.
"You know what I'm thinking? That there's no way you should worry about a teacher. Teachers can have a bad day and sometimes they end up venting their anger on their students. Come on, you know Ms. Ritter's not worth it." She patted you on the shoulder before opening the door of the car.
"Now come on, jump out."
You turned around a few more times to see if she was watching you.
She did.
Evelyn had made you very happy that day.

"Where the hell have you been? You didn't come home so tell me right away who you slept with," Harmony buzzed like a bee in your ear.
"Oh god I think I'm totally in love..." you mumbled on the way back to campus.
"Tell me everything!"
"There's not much to say. I met this woman. She took me home and we talked and then she kissed me."
"That woman? Wait, are we talking about that woman?" Harmony raised an eyebrow.
"Yes we do. But it's so wrong Harmony. It feels so wrong. She's old and I'm...I'm not. It just doesn't work out. I don't get you. How are you managing things with Isaac. Then there's also that knowing that he's your teacher..." you said desperately.
"I can't accept to be different than everyone else. It's killing me."
"Wait a minute, Y/n. Who told you we're different just because we have feelings for someone older? Does it make us that different?
Age is just a number, it says nothing about love." She said patting your back when she noticed that you started to sob.
"As long as she makes you happy...
And doesn't stop you from learning.
You know we have an exam tomorrow, don't you?"
Fuck. The exam. You totally forgot about that.
"Why didn't you tell me? I haven't even started studying yet!" You jumped up and threw some books in your bag before desperately typing Gabriel's phone number into your cell phone.
"Don't study too much." Harmony joked as you slammed the door.
