《Her Mate》Chapter Five

"What the fuck were you thinking letting her drag your ass over there in the first place? I've told you countless times you're better off without her, but you don't listen." Jake said irritated as he glared at the road.
The familiar fields and street signs flew by as we went down I-90. My head rested against the passenger window of Jake's truck.
"I'm sorry, alright? I just figured-" trying not to sound to annoyed. I hated it when he got this way but he had a right this time.
"You figured what? That they would be welcoming you back with open arms? Are you that fucking stupid? Oh wait, it's you we're talking about here, of course you are."
Yeah I'm stupid for wanting things to be different with my family. So fucking what.
I felt Jake's hand on my knee causing me to turn to him with that stupid grin. It was originally one of the things that I liked about him. I thought it made him seem so devilish especially how his eyes seemed to glow just a bit brighter when he smiled. I know it's crazy but I swear they do.
"Look babe, I'm sorry. I just don't understand why you let them keep doing this to you and don't you tell me that shit about you owing Joann. You don't owe her shit! She only helped herself by making sure you were completely under her control and you just let her do it."
Joann never seemed that way but I guess it made sense for him to think so. Maybe I should start having her around less... I gave him a weak smile while leaning over to kiss him on the cheek. "Maybe you're right."
"Maybe?" He glanced over to me. God, his ego. "Okay, you are right. Happy?" His smile returned large and genuine patting my knee twice "That's my girl!"
One of them I thought rolling my eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked pulling up in front of my trailer as if he didn't have a clue. Seriously?
"Nothing." I replied with a sigh resisting the urge to roll my eyes again. "I'm just still upset about earlier. Nevermind me." I got out and heard Jake turn the truck off and get out too.
Throwing my keys and purse on the counter I grabbed a venom from the fridge opening it and took a large drink as Jake eyed me from the door.

"Aren't you going to offer me anything?" He asked with a smirk as he let himself in. I knew what he wanted and I wasn't going to give him it but... damn he looked good. The sun was still high enough that it highlighted his body. His wavy brown hair sculptures his face as his eyes drew me in. Despite being in shadow I could see them perfectly.
I stared into those eyes unable to look away or stop myself from grinning like a little girl who finally got the boy she secretly crushed on to say "hi" to her.
I shook my head no not trusting myself with words.
A small growl escaped him as he closed the distance causing me to giggle as his lips crushed into mine and immediately started sucking the air from me. "Now you're just being rude. You do know what happens to rude girls, don't you?" He said panting but showing no signs of being out of breath. Raising my eyebrow to him "They're rewarded?" I answered giggling again. I so loved this side of him and yet it seemed it was more and more a rare occurrence.
"Actually they're punished."
I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling myself slowly closer to him. Just as our lips was about to connect "Same thing." I whispered before darting past him running towards my bedroom. I heard another growl from him telling me that he was chasing after me.
I woke up at a quarter past ten naked to the sound of Dobby going crazy outside again. I looked around but saw no sign of Jake which didn't surprise me. Much harder to come up with an excuse for staying overnight someplace.
I got up and put some old sweats and a T-shirt on before checking on Dobby who I felt terrible for leaving outside but he was a dog. They loved being outside, right?
"Okay, okay, enough Dobby! Geez." I said mostly to myself as I brought him inside which proved to do little in calming him down. He kept racing around going from the front door to looking out the window in my bedroom then racing back in here and staring outside from the back of the couch. I hated him being there but I was too focused looking out the window myself to scold him.

After a couple minutes of seeing nothing Dobby started settling down. "Stupid dog! You wake me up over nothing?!" I scratched behind his ears and noticed two empty bottles of beer out that Jake must of left. Why can't guys ever clean up after themselves?
I tossed them into the recycling bin and went to grab an energy drink and noticed I was out. "Great!" I took a Deep breath and grabbed my purse and keys off the counter and headed out the door.
The full moon looked beautiful just over the mountains and partially hidden by dark clouds. Besides it and my poor porch light it was almost total darkness. They really need to add some street lights to help I thought looking around feeling like something was watching me. Dobby was still quite so I figured it must be my imagination but quickly got into my car and locked it just in case.
"Hey Crystal. What are you doing here tonight?" Tom waved at me as I walked into where I worked. I smiled at him as I went towards the back to grab my energy drinks. "Just needed to grab a few things." I hollowed to him. "How has it been tonight?"
"Surprisingly well. I've had a steady stream of customers all day. I figured it either had to be my good looks or someone pissed off somebody at Conoco and everyone decided to just come here but I'll take it."
"So when are you leaving to shoot a centerfold?" I asked as I set the energy drinks and a six pack of Miller and Moose Drool." Not really sure why I grabbed it.
He frowned as he started ringing them up. "Probably Be awhile. Turns out a few of them asked about you. One of them was an Kara. So mind telling me your secret?"
I shrugged not sure. The name sounded familiar but at the moment i was drawing a blank. "Must be my good looks then instead." I teased as i paid for the items and started out. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Just make sure you show up on time tomorrow."
As soon as I pulled back into parking spot i could hear Dobby going off again. "Dobby, seriously what the -" something moved just just off the corner of my eye followed by a rattling off to the side of the trailer. A lump caught in the back of my throat as I looked frantically trying to see through the blackness.
I moved quickly to the door as I fought my keys trying to find the right one for the door. A growl came from behind me causing me to drop the keys as I slowly turned towards it. I couldn't believe my own eyes. It appeared to be a wolf but it was far bigger than any I'd ever seen at least three times. It's eyes glowed a yellow-green telling me it wasn't normal.
It seemed to be deciding what it wanted to do as it slowly moved towards me with its eyes fully locked with mine. Wasn't that a challenge to them? Was it challenging me? Oh my god I was going to die!
I felt my foot hit a rock. Knowing I had to get out of here "GO AWAY!" I screamed as I reached for the rock and threw it at the large beast as I made a run for my car.
The beast yelped letting me know that I did hit it but it seemed only to piss it off more than anything as I didn't make five steps as I felt the beast collide into my back sending me crashing to the ground. My whole back and ribs were on fire as i struggled to catch my breath knowing any second was going to be my last. Another heavy blow knocked me onto my back as i struggled to get up. The wolf hovered above me with its large canines dripping with saliva just inches from my face. I could feel it's hot breath wash over me. "What do you want?" I cried not knowing what to do. The wolf could easily kill me but for some reason it hadn't. It let out a loud growl before slowly backing off of me.
Once free I scooted backwards on my elbows ignoring the pain from the rocks and the hard ground. It watched me for a couple seconds no longer growling. Apparently it had done whatever it came to do. Finally it just turned and ran off towards the woods leaving me terrified.
