《Being Popular (GirlxGirl) [COMPLETE]》Chapter Two- The New Girl

"It was childish Court." I sighed. After Courtney had left me frozen to the spot, it had taken me a few minutes to remember where I was and what I was doing. Heading back into my room I heard the faint buzz of my phone, informing me that I had a text message. It was from the queen bee herself. I read it and groaned. Courtney had sent me, and presumably the whole of her contact list, a message warning everyone of Danny's 'Inability to preform in a sexual manner.' I had called her as soon as I had got my head around her stupid revenge attempt.
"It was not childish Mickie, it was the least he deserves." Courtney responded calmly, not seeming to care about the potential havoc she may have caused.
"Courtney, telling the world that Danny can't perform when having sex is very childish. Don't get me wrong he deserves to have is manly parts cut off for what he did to you but-"
"But nothing," She interrupted. "I thought you were supposed to be on my side Mickie." I didn't need to see her to know that she was pouting. It was a ridiculous statement, I was always on her side.
"I am on your side Courtney." I reassured. "But it was still stupid." I muttered.
"Good, you don't need to get your knickers in a twist Mickie, in a week from now it will have been forgotten." She didn't sound to happy about the idea of it having been forgotten so quickly, but she sounded certain about it.
As usual Courtney was right. No longer than a week later, girls were back throwing themselves at Danny, in the hope that he would choose one of them as his new girlfriend. Though it wasn't that big of a surprise, Danny was intimating to most of the other guys and the girls loved that about him and the guys secretly admired him for it. If anything the rumour had only managed to last a week because Courtney was the one who spread it, had it been anyone else, it would have been ignored and forgotten quicker than it had started.
The last week had been amazing in my mind. Courtney and I had spent practically the whole week together, there was no more Courtney rushing off after school to meet Danny or her bailing on our plans together to spend the day with Danny. It was the most wonderful feeling to have Courtney all to myself. With each day I felt like I was getting closer to telling her my deepest secret, minus the detail of being in love with her.
It was Monday morning and I had stopped in Starbucks to grab a coffee before heading into school. It was as busy as per usual on a Monday morning. Part of me felt like not bothering knowing that it would make me late, but without a coffee I wouldn't be able to function. After a silent debate in my head, I joined the back of the queue.
Ten minutes later I was finally the second person in the queue. The girl in front of me quickly ordered and moved over to the right to wait for her order.
"Yes love." The guy behind the counter said. He looked me up and down. I rolled my eyes and ordered a cappuccino to go. I walked over to the right hand side of the counter to wait for my order, but as I did so the girl who had been in front of me turned, coffee in hand and smacked straight into me. Luckily the lid on the coffee protected either on of us from getting covered in coffee. Fortunately only a tiny drop had landed on my shirt, unfortunately I had a white top on.

"Shit!" She exclaimed as she pulled out her earphones and looked at me,"I'm so sorry. I had my earphones in and didn't hear you behind me. Shit, look at your top." While she spoke I was mesmerised by her eyes. They were the most gorgeous shade of blue I had ever seen, so light, they stood out in contrast to her dark hair. I shook my head, breaking eye contact, looking down at my top.
"It's okay, it's just a tiny drop, I'm sure it will come off." I laughed noticing how embarrassed she looked. After a little while she laughed too.
"Come on, we better try and get it off before it dries." The girl said grabbing my hand and leading me to the bathroom. Once inside she let go of my hand and grabbed a tissue wetting it slightly before handing it to me.
"Here. Once again I'm sorry." She smiled apologetically, "Shoot! I better be getting off I'm already late, again sorry." She grabbed her bag and practically ran out of the bathroom. I laughed, what a way to start the day.
By the time I arrived at the school gates I was half an hour late. I had tried desperately to get rid of the coffee stain but I had no such luck. Thankfully with my cardigan done up you couldn't see it, I started thinking about the strange girl with the beautiful eyes, I had never seen her before, which may seem like no big deal but we live in a tiny town, where everyone knows everyone.
Five minutes later I was walking into my biology class. I swore under my breath, noticing that the whole class was quite. I opened the door, trying to make as little nose as possible.
"Miss James, nice of you to join us. Take your seat, Courtney will tell you what you missed." My biology teacher called to me from the back of the classroom. I hurried to my seat beside Courtney, trying to as little attention to me as possible.
"Where were you?" Courtney whispered to me, handing me a sheet.
"I stopped at Starbucks, you know what I'm like without coffee, it was really busy." For some reason I decided not to tell Courtney about the strange girl who had spilt coffee on me, resulting in me being quite so late.
"Whatever, you still good for lunch?"
"Miss James. Miss Diamond. Silence."
"Yes Sir, sorry Sir." Courtney and I said in sync, we smiled at one another and I nodded in response to her earlier question. Biology seemed to fly by with me and courtney passing notes to one another, silly notes, commenting on someones hair, or a programme we watched. In no time the bell was ringing encouraging us to move onto our next lesson. Sadly that meant Courtney and I had to go our separate ways.
I took my time walking to my english room, i was in no rush to get there, honestly the later i got there the better, it meant less time with Mr Conroy. The second bell rang signalling that all students should now be in there classrooms, I took notice of the bell but didn't increase my pace. I eventually reached my english room and walked in.
"Sorry I'm la-" I didn't get to finish my apology, because standing in front of me was the strange girl from Starbucks.
"Miss James, your the perfect person to introduce Miss Levy to the course. Miss Levy if you would follow Miss James to the library she will explain to you what it is you will be learning this year and what you have missed." I rolled my eyes knowing it was just an excuse to get rid of me.

"Of course Mr Conroy." I smiled politely, and held open the door for the girl to leave.
"Thank-you." She said leaving the classroom. I followed close behind her, she stopped and turned to face me.
"Hey, you're the pretty green eyed girl from Starbucks this morning, if I'm not mistaken." She smiled holding out her hand for me to shake. "I'm Arizona by the way."
"Yep thats me and you're the girl who spilt coffee on me." I joked shaking her hand. "I'm Mickie."
"Nice to meet you Mickie, and i'm sorry about this morning. Oh, did the coffee come out?" Arizona said looking at me with those beautiful blue eyes again.
"Sort of." She pulled a face, "Don't worry about it, it's no big deal. Anyway the library is this way." I said walking in the direction of the library.
"Sorry about this." Arizona said, I looked at her confused, not sure what she meant, "Dragging you out of your lesson to tell me about the subject, I bet its not really what you want to be spending your time doing." She explained.
"Honestly I owe you, you got me out of a lesson with Mr Conroy."
"Crap teacher?" She asked.
"Not so much, but unless your an A* student he doesn't want to know."
"So does that mean you're one of his favourite students." I laughed at her compliment.
"I wish. I'm more of a B student, nothing more than average, thats me." It was so easy talking to her, I felt like I could tell her anything and I had only known her two minutes.
"Well you're in luck then." I raised my eyebrows at her. "I just so happen to be an A* student."
"Lucky me." I laughed, and she laughed too, it was one of those infectious laughters that made you smile at the sound of it. Nothing more was said as we made our way to the library. It was practically empty, minus a few students who most probably were catching up on coursework. We found a table right at the back of the room. I took out my english folder and started to tell Arizona about the course curriculum.
"You've only missed one term and we didn't to that much. We spent most the time working on essay structure, and taking lots of notes, if you want you can photocopy mine." I offered handing her my folder.
"Yeah that would be great thanks Mickie." She smiled at me. Whilst she read through my notes, I took in every detail of her. This morning I hadn't looked at her probably, I had only noticed how blue her eyes were and how dark her hair was, but now, now I was really looking at her. She was really quite beautiful, she had fair skin that made her blue eyes stand out even more. I could tell she had no make-up on, except maybe a small amount of blusher, then again she didn't need it. I also noticed that, unlike most of the girls in the school, she hadn't 'dressed up', she was wearing a simple grey hoody and a pair of dark grey skinny jeans, yet she made them look so good.
My eyes travelled back up to meet hers, I blushed noticing that she was watching me.
"So, um, yeah, we're reading 'To Kill A Mockingbird'." I said trying desperately to hide my embarrassment.
"Its good that I've already read it then. Less to catch up on." She smiled at me, showing her perfectly straight white teeth.
"Yeah, it's a good book. Do you like to read?" I asked, I could feel that my face was still red and I wanted nothing more than to leave, but I also wanted to know more about her.
"I read whenever I get the chance. Shh, don't tell anyone, but I am secretly a big nerd at heart." She joked winking at me.
"My lips are sealed." I told her, acting out zipping my lips shut. She laughed.
"Tell me about yourself, Mickie James." Arizona said, cocking her head to the side watching me intently, I felt colour rise to my cheeks once more.
"There's not much to tell. I moved here when I was 8 with my mum and dad, I'm an only child, my favourite colours blue. Umm, I'm not sure what else." I said, rubbing my neck nervously, I wasn't one for talking about myself.
"Well that's a start." She smiled at me and I smiled back. I felt comfortable around her.
"What about you? I don't know anything about you."
"You know my name." I rolled my eyes playfully, "Okay, okay. Well, I just moved here, my mum kicked me out and sent me to live with my dad." Her smile faltered as she told me, it must be a sore subject for her. "My favourite colour is green, I prefer reading to watching T.V. I have a little sister, Faye, who lives with my mum. Honestly, I'm not that interesting, I would rather learn more about you."
"I don't know what else to say about myself." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Okay then. Tell me about this school, this town, what do I need to know to survive here?"
"Well, as you have probably noticed this town is relatively small, everybody knows everybody and secrets don't usually stay, umm, secret." A knowing look crept onto her face but disappeared quicker than it had appeared. "Not much to tell you about the school, it's just like any other school, you have your nerds, emos, those who keep to themselves and the populars. In order to survive, try to fit in, don't stand out and don't get on the wrong side of-"
"Courtney Diamond." She said interrupting me. I stared at her in shock, my jaw having hit the ground. "Am I wrong, it was just that I heard a couple of girls talking in my law class."
"N-no, but I was going to say the populars."
"You mean like yourself." She was smiling, but I could see that she was being serious. That statement shocked me even more. "It doesn't take a genius to work out that you are at the top of the food chain here, the way you dress, the way the class reacted to your entrance."
"I uh... I'm..." I stuttered, not quite sure how to respond to that.
"I'm gonna take that as a yes to you being one of the 'populars'." She air quoted the word populars. "Funny though, you don't seem half as arrogant or self-absorbed as the others." She stared at me strangely, as if trying to figure me out, she shook her head, suggesting that she was unable to do so.
"Not everybody who is popular is like that." I argued.
"Clearly." She muttered. "Tell me about this Courtney Diamond than."
"Courtney." What could I possibly say about Courtney, other than that she was perfect. "Well Courtney is the schools most popular girl, she rules the school, what can I say? She is your typical queen bee."
"She sounds like a spoilt brat to me." Arizona said.
"She's not like that at all." I said defensively, I liked Arizona, but I wont have her insulting Courtney. "She's kind and caring, and a good friend."
"I'm guessing that you're a good friend of hers then?" She looked at me, she seemed a little sad but was still smiling.
"Yeah, we're best friends, and have been for years."
"Of course you are." Her smile faltered as she looked at me.
"So have you made any friends yet, not including me?" I asked, sensing that things were beginning to get awkward.
"I like to stick to myself, I'm not exactly a people person. But I guess I can make an exception for you considering were friends."
"I would hope so, considering you still owe me for chucking your coffee over me." I joked.
"How many times to I have to say I'm sorry for this morning? Plus, I didn't chuck it over you, I merely spilt a drop on your shirt."
We spent the next half an hour getting to know one another better. It turned out that we had a lot common, it was so nice talking to someone who liked the same things I did. I loved spending time with Courtney but we had very little in common, I would often pretend to like the things she did, just so I could spend more time with her. The school bell rang, letting us know that the lesson was over and that we know had half an hour free to do with as we wish before we had our next lesson.
"If I'm not mistaken we have a half an hour break, right now yeah?" Arizona asked, throwing her folder and pens into her back pack.
"Yeah thats right. See you're learning already." She pulled a face. "What lesson do you have next?" I asked. She pulled out her timetable from her back pocket. "Chemistry."
"Awesome, me too." I threw my stuff into my bag. I could help but wonder what Arizona was going to do now. "Hey um, I was thinking, only if you want, you can hang out with me now."
A grin formed on her face, it reached her eyes and they seemed to twinkle, making them look an even lighter shade of blue.
"Yeah, I'm meeting Courtney, but she would be fine with you hanging out with us." The grin vanished from her face.
"Nah it's okay. You go hang out with your friend, I'll do my own thing." She smiled, and started to walk off. I grabbed her arm stopping her.
"I insist you join us, now come on."
She rolled her eyes. "Okay," She sighed, "If you insist." I smiled at her.
"Good, now come on." I grabbed her hand and pulled her in the direction I was going.
As we walked down the hallway, I saw people giving us funny looks, at first I didn't know what their problem was, but then I realised I was still holding Arizona's hand. I dropped it immediately, as if it were on fire. I felt bad for doing so, but little things like that were how rumours started, and I couldn't afford to have rumours started about me. We made our way to the common room, avoiding the younger years who were eager to get away from their classrooms.
Entering the common room, the majority of eyes were on Arizona, it was then that I realised that all the strange looks we got from people in the hallway was due to the fact that Arizona was new, not because we were holding hands. A series of whispers broke out, curiosity taking over, the need to find out who this new person was and whether there was a need to acknowledge them. I rolled my eyes, and lead the way over to Courtney, who too was staring intently at Arizona.
"Hey Mickie, who's your friend?" Courtney smiled deviously, cocking her head to the side.
"Courtney this is Arizona, Arizona this is Courtney Diamond." I sent a silent prayer, praying that there was no drama.
"Nice to meet you Courtney." Arizona smiled sweetly, holding out her hand for Courtney to shake. Everybody's eyes were on us now, watching and waiting to see how Courtney would react, if Arizona was accepted by Courtney than she would be accepted by everyone else.
Courtney matched Arizona's smile, but did not take her hand, instead she sat down on one of the sofa's. "Sit down then." She said pointing to the other sofa. Arizona seemed unimpressed with Courtney's actions.
"I'm okay thanks." Arizona said. A couple of people who had still been eavsdropping on our conversation turned to watch.
"Come on sit down, lets get to know one another." Courtney said, inviting her to sit down across from her once more. She was smiling, but she didn't seem happy, she seemed a little annoyed at Arizona's attitude.
"I'd rather not."
"Excuse me." Courtney raised her eyebrows, anger burning in her eyes, know one spoke to Courtney like that, know one ever rejected her offer's. I groaned internally, this really wasn't going to end well.
"Look, it's nothing personal. You just don't seem like the sort of person I want to tell my history too, or a person whose history I wont to know. So, i'll see you around." She smiled sweetly at Courtney before turning to me. "I'll see you in Chemistry Mickey." She turned and made her way towards the door.
"Stuck up bitch." Courtney said, loud enough for the whole common room to hear. Arizona stopped and turned back round. Great. Let the chaos begin.
"Sorry, what did you just say?"
