《This Is Me》18

I was sitting on the couch with tears rolling down my face as my brother ran in and grabbed my hand.
'George, you shouldn't listen to anyone. You can just wear dresses when you like to.'
I shrugged. 'Give it a bit, I'm not ready.'
'But you love to wear dresses. We can get your favourite one, because mum repaired it.'
I smiled shyly as I looked at my hands. I really wanted to wear a dress and slowly stood up to walk to the board my dad made. I switched it to she/her and my brother smiled. He grabbed my hand and we walked upstairs to Drista in my room.
'Your sister is going to show you some dresses.'
'Dresses!' she yelled happily as she hugged me tightly. 'George is a girl now?'
My brother nodded and I grabbed the black dress first. I put it on and showed Drista. 'This is one of the dresses,' I said shyly as I stood in front of the mirror with my sister next to me.
'She's gorgeous!' she yelled to my brother and I smiled.
I was pretty surprised that Drista understood what gender fluid was since she was only six years old.
I put on another dress after a few minutes. It was the red one and Drista smiled. 'Red is my favourite colour!'
'Red is beautiful, isn't it?' my brother smiled. 'It fits well on your sister, doesn't it?'
Drista nodded. 'This is my favourite dress so far.'
I smiled and turned around to show the dress better. Drista hugged me out of excitement and I put on the purplish dress. Drista smiled and nodded. 'I love this one too!'
'Thank you, then I'll show you my favourite now, okay?'

Drista nodded and I put on my favourite blue dress. I stood in front of her with my blue dress on and she smiled as she jumped up and down. 'I love this one, I think this one is my favourite too!'
'Thank you, it makes me happy that you like my dresses.'
'Can I show you my dresses too?' Drista asked.
'Of course,' I smiled.
She ran to her room, holding my hand tightly to pull me with her. I sat down on her bed once I arrived there and she opened her closet, grabbing a lot of dresses. She ran to me after she grabbed a box and held a dress. She lifted her arms in the air and I pulled her current dress off. She pulled on her dress and smiled.
'This is my favourite dress,' she smiled. 'It's red.'
'It's beautiful, Drista. You look gorgeous.'
'Thank you,' Drista smiled as she crawled next to me on her bed. 'I have more dresses, but I like this one the most.'
She wrapped her arms around my waist and smiled. 'I always wanted a sister too so I could play with them and show them my dresses. I can do that with a brother too, actually. But I still like that you are my sister sometimes.'
'I'm your sister now.'
'George, can I ask you something?'
'You can.'
'Why is Clay not here anymore? He was here very often, but he's never here.'
'Clay and I had a small argument. We will be fine, but for now he's not coming for a while anymore.'
Drista nodded slowly. 'I think Clay likes you.'
I smiled. 'I don't think he does, Drista. He doesn't really like me a lot anymore.'

'Do you like him?'
'A little bit, but I'm a bit sad about what happened. It will be alright and you can hug him again in a few weeks.'
Drista nodded. 'I miss Clay, I think you would be a sweet girlfriend for Clay.'
I smiled and kissed the top of her head. 'You're sweet, Drista. Are you going to sleep?'
She nodded and went to the bathroom to change into pyjamas and brush her teeth. She came back and I kissed her cheek as I left to go to my room. I immediately went to bed too.
The next morning I woke up and stood up reluctantly. I took a short shower and dressed up in some sweats and a shirt as I left to go to school. I didn't want to go, but I had to.
I walked to school in the hope to be as late as possible, but I ended up being a few minutes too early. I sat down on a bench as I stared at my hands and heard people coming closer.
I looked up, immediately got pushed, but the person was startled. He saw my bruised face and looked at his hands.
'Yeah, that's what you did,' I muttered. 'Is it still as fun as it was yesterday? Congrats on being an abuser.'
The boy stared at his hands and I stood up, pushing him away.
'I can't help it that you're gross,' the boy said.
'I'm not gross, I like wearing dresses and makeup. That's all.'
'No, you also make out with guys.'
'I have never kissed a guy, so no. I'm gay, but I haven't kissed a guy.'
'You're disgusting.'
'Okay, thanks. Just leave me alone now.'
I started walking off, realising how much it actually hurt me what everyone was saying to me. I was going to get bullied forever, just as long as I needed to be gone here. I had no friends, I was alone and sad.
I sat back, playing a game on my phone as I suddenly heard people laugh loudly and scream insults through the hallways. I figured those were meant for me so I didn't look up, until I felt a hand on my shoulder.
I closed my eyes, waiting for a fist against my face, but it didn't happen. 'George,' a recognisable voice whispered. 'Look at me, please.'
I slowly looked up and smiled as I saw what was going on. Clay was standing in front of me with makeup on his face and a present wrapped in paper in his hands. 'Forgive me.'
