《Don't Say NO [Book 1]》Chapter 28

Like Rachelle promised she got me more food. Acting like a mad woman I eat the food faster than she believed. As I waited for River it felt like forever. Ten minutes felt like an hour and thirty minutes felt like a year. When an hour passed I heard footsteps down the hall coming this way but didn't care for them. A lot of people have passed my door but no one I knew or looking for.
"Knock, knock," a strange but familiar voice came from the door. "I'm sorry I was told that you wanted to see me," it was Crevan. He let himself in with a big smile on his face. "Do you want me to shut the door?" I didn't know what I was doing. I was just staring at him. "Do you want me to shut the door?" he asked again looking concerned.
"Yes, please," I finally forced out the words. I watched his every move, unsure if I should trust him or not. Once he shut the door he came to the bed and ask if he could sit. Nodding my head. He sat on the bed, smiling at me as I did the same. Looking into his green eyes I was beginning to forget why I asked for him.
"River right? The little girl."
"Yes." I quickly said.
"She's cute, your daughter?"
"I took her in after she lost her mother. So yes, I guess you can say that." For some reason this felt a little awkward. He nodded his head a few times and then looked at his hands. "I wanted to tell you not to talk to River about killing and all." I picked up the black tulip. "She's very young, three weeks old in fact."
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have. She was asking one of the servants about flowers and the woman didn't know anything." He sounded disappointed. But really I'm surprised that he apologised. Connor never apologised over something that seemed small to him. Like taking my blood, that ass hat. Well I got some of his blood. I wonder if he is okay.
"And you do?" Trying to get back to the conversation.
"Well not to brag but the ladies back in the day loved a man who knew the language of flowers." He gave me what may have been his most dashing smile. I wanted to laugh. "But of course these days women are into bad boys."

"Well not everyone wants a bad boy," I smiled.
He arched his one brow, his green eyes looked deep within my own. "I see." My smiled faded away, what is wrong with me. I have to change the subject somehow.
"Crevan right?"
"Yes."
"I'm Dawn."
"Yes I know, we meet before," he smiled.
"Right," I nodded my head looking at the black tulip. I'm being an idiot.
"In the human world the black parrot tulip is symbol for power and strength." He broke the silence between us. He pointed at the flower as he spoke. "And also a symbol of farewell. The black parrot tulip is a royal flower and is known to being called the Queen of Night. Here it is mostly called the Queen of Night, but it was once called the Queen of Dreams, used by witches or people looking for power. But of course witches no longer come here," he said.
I found myself glaring at the flower. Queen of Dreams, are you the reason why I have my dreams. A knock at the door startled me. "Mama," River's voice called as she opened the door. Peeking her head in, I waved her in. "Do you need anything else before I leave? Ray, Ray says I have to take my nap soon and I want to make sure you have everything."
Glancing over at the flowers, "way don't you find a vase for our beautiful flowers?"
She smiled from ear to ear as she jumped up and down, "Okay I will find the most beautiful vase, mamma" She left me again singing as she shut the door behind her.
Crevan laugh," What's so funny?"
"She reminds me of my own daughter. Always taking care of others," he said shaking his head with a soft smile. And for just a moment I thought I lost him.
"You have a daughter?" I asked. He glanced over to me and I saw it. Longing, pain, love, all these emotions where coming out. Did he lose his child?
"I have a few but my youngest is maybe around your age. Twenty four I believe. "He said running his fingers through his dark brown hair as if he was trying to remember her age. I wouldn't blame him if I was a vampire, I wouldn't be about to remember. Well if he is really old he may not even care about age.

"How many kids do you have?"
"Seven, three girls and four boys. My first wife was human and she gave me six beautiful children. But they were all human expect for one. So they didn't live long," he gave me an uneasy smile. For a moment he looked lost.
"Don't they become half breeds or something?"
"No little one, they are ether born human or born vampire when you mate with our kind." So if Connor and I were to have a child it would be human or vampire. What am I thinking? That will never happen. But if I did have his child. Would Connor love our child? Would he love me? Like he loved Nina, would he even forget her? No, no, I yelled at myself. Don't think that. Don't ever... think... that...
"You said six, what about the last one."
"Ah yes, twenty five years ago I met a wonderful woman. After I lost my wife I never thought I could love again. But I did. In a short period of time she was with child. Seven long months later, I told her that I was a vampire. I thought that if the child would be born vampire that she should now. I have to explain to her I was giving her these pills that were made out of blood, for the baby. Because vampire or not the baby had to have some source of blood or the child would kill her. In the end she wasn't happy," he smiled which made me a little uncomfortable. "But she said she was going to keep the baby no matter if it was a vampire or not. On the day of the baby's birth it was a beautiful girl," his smile grow but faded fast. "The next morning I came back to the hospital... they were gone. No one knew anything."
"Did she leave you?" I asked.
He nodded his head once,"She did. Ten long years later I found her happily married with a swollen belly. And my daughter called another man daddy. I was upset but I wouldn't bring myself to ruin what they had. What my daughter had. Happy parents, happy home, a healthy family. So I left, but I regret it," his eyes started to develop tears. Quickly he ran the back of his hand over his eyes. "I'm sorry. I'm rambling." Giving me a weak smile, our eyes made contact.
"No it was me, I asked," blinking a few times I looked away.
"What about you. I think its fair that I told you my story you should tell me yours."
"What do you what to know?" I asked.
"Your family?"
"I never knew my father. My mom met this guy got married and had my sister. Then my step father went missing and mom went into prostitution. Said that it made good money. At eighteen I left to go to college... forget it."
"No please tell me," he placed his big hand on mine.
"In college I found out that my sister had... passed away but we could never find her body. I stopped talking to my family and lived by myself with my cat.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I have River and... Connor."
"Yes, you do," he patted my hand as a small smile formed on his face. "You know our stories are a little similar. Don't you think?"
"Yea, I guess so," I said returning a smile. Looking into his eyes, I realised that his eyes were just like my step dads. Everything about him was like my step dad. At night he would put me to bed, pat my hands, kiss my forehead, and tell me good night. He would always smile even when he was sad. I miss him. The last memory of him I had was when he was dressed in jeans, a blue t-shirt, and he wore the brown coat I gave him for Christmas. He left around ten when mom was in bed and Edea was asleep.
I remember asking where he was going. But all he said was, 'I'll be back. I have to take care of something. While I'm gone, will you take care of your mother and sister for me?'
'You're not coming back are you?'
'I will, I promise,' he said.
"You lied."
"Lied about what," Crevan said. I said it out loud?
"I'm sorry, its nothing. I was just thinking about something."
He nodded his head a few time, "You should rest." Lying down he pulled the blanket, patted my hand, and kissed my forehead. "Sweet dreams little one." My eyes grow wide when he kissed me. And when he left I felt the tears stream down to my ears. Unknowingly the word "Daddy," escaped my trembling lips.
