《Don't Say NO [Book 1]》Chapter 18

I don't know how long I looked at that door. Waiting for him to come in. Connor wasn't a man who said sorry or came running back. I was waiting for nothing but a dream. If only I didn't open my mouth, but I was free now, right? He told me to leave, I can go home. I smiled quickly at the thought but it faded. I felt bad, and deep inside I didn't want to leave. I didn't want to return home even when I knew there were people waiting for me. Are they?

I jumped when I heard a knock at the boor. "Yes?" smiling, Rachelle slipped through the door. "Rachelle, what are you doing here?" I knew my smile became fake.

"I didn't see you in the nursery so I came to check on you," she shut the door, and watched me.

"I'm not feeling well, I'm sorry that I worried you," gazing at the clock, it was close to twelve, I have been sitting here for five hours. God I need a life.

"I wasn't," I let out a sound that could have been a laugh. Getting up, I headed to the door but Rachelle grabbed my arm. Squeezing it, I tried to pull and swing my arm to get her to let go. "You're naked," she said coldly looking me up and down. Turning me around, she pushed me to the bed. "Were you a victim of a vampire attack, or was owned by another vampire?"

"I guess you can call me a victim," narrowing my eyes at her. The scars that made me hate myself and every vampire I met but not all vampires are bad. I just got to be careful.

"Connor knows about this?" she asked.

"Yes," I said with a sigh.

"How?" she found the red dress on the floor and handed it to me.

"How it happened?" I said taking the dress from her. Playing with the fabric I smiled remember those moments of the nightmare. Being grabbed, beaten, bitten, and toyed with. "Huh, I agreed to it," tears ran down my cheeks, I let this body become the way it is for my sister and I never regretted it. "It doesn't matter now, it's in the past and I like to keep it that way."

Reading my mood she changed the subject. "Get dressed and go into the nursery. River has been waiting for you, and hasn't stopped crying since she woke."

"She's crying?" breaking my moody self I quickly put the dress over my head, struggling to get it on.

"Can't you hear her?" I must have blocked out my surroundings. But how can I not hear her? Rachelle finally helped me, as soon as the dress was on I dashed out of the room, almost tripping on the way out. It was then in that hall way I heard the soft cries through the nursery doors. She was being rocked by Beth which surprised me a little.

"I'm sorry, I can't seem to stop her," she said. Beth and I met at the center of the room and she handed me that small crying child. River, she's grown bigger. Looking at me, she smiled showing off a baby tooth.

"A baby tooth," I said turning to Rachelle who stood at the door.

"Werewolves children grow much fast then humans do. By five weeks she will look more like a five year old. And another five weeks from there she will be ten, then she will start to age more like a human," she said coming toward her. "When she shifts for the first time, she will age slowly again."

"Why age fast the then start to slow down. What's the point of enjoying the moments with your children?"

"We try to make the most of them," Beth said sadly. She watched River chew on her fingers and gave a gently smile. "I'm sorry for my actions. I shouldn't have gotten angry with you."

"I forgive you, even if something did happen with you and Connor. It is not my place to get in the middle of it," I felt like a liar. I know why she's upset with Connor, and I am kind of putting myself in the middle. "Where is the lady from yesterday?"

"Connor let her go and had Beth and I watch her and take her back to the tribe," Rachelle cupped her hands together, emotionless as she looked down at me and River. Hugging River close to me, I felt like my life was falling apart after I just picked it all up again. Connor hates me and now River is being taken back. "As the Luna of my tribe, I will protect the child, it is my word."

"But you wanted to kill her at first and..." I started panicking.

"I have started to change our old ways. Unfortunately, the child will have a hard time because of her loss. But I can see her being a very strong wolf," a tiny smile flashed across Rachelle's face.

The baby in my arms started to yawn as it moved its body around. The child I watched being born and put into my arms. The child that was growing up so fast. Oh how the weeks go by. "When is she going back?" I asked.

"In an hour," Rachelle said walking around the room, grabbing a few things.

"The sooner the better right?" my voice cracked a little.

"Yes," Rachelle said.

There was silences between us for about ten minutes before I spoke again, "Connor wants me gone."

"We know, a few others know as well," Beth had already packed River's food and helped Rachelle pack the clothes. Once they were finished, Beth took the bags and headed to the door before she was stopped by a tall figure in the door way. The tall figure glared at Beth, bowing her head and keeping it down she walked around him.

"Mr. Wolff, how are you," Rachelle bowed her head, glaring back. Coming out of the shadows Victor's face came into the light.

"Leave, and take the child with you," my eyes grow wide, shifting to Victor and Rachelle. Making her way to me, she looked into my eyes and took the baby gently away from me as I shook my head telling her not to leave. The last time she did that I lost some of my hair and was put in a box. Once she left, Victor shut the door making an echoing sound. With his eyes never leaving mine I stiffened. "Dawn Olivia Moore," he said.

"How do you know my full name?" Oh my god, he is a stalker.

"I'm a detective, remember?" he lifted an eyebrow.

Backing up I hit the crib, "oh okay, then what's my mother's name, and what school did I go to and when's my birthday?"

"Elizabeth Louise Moore, you were home schooled most of your life but went to Temple. You were quite disturbed when you found out that your sister died. And your birthday, April eleventh," wow he's good.

"Prove to me you're a detective," and when I said that he pulled out a badge from inside his coat pocket.

"I have a few questions," pulling a notebook out of coat, that man had everything in there. "You were kidnapped right?"

"Yes," I said unsure if I was saying the right thing. I don't do well with police. When I got pulled over for speeding, the cop thought I was drunk because I couldn't get one word to sound right. He then asked me to step out and my legs gave out. I was so scared. The police officer then drove me down town where Morgan had to pick me up. I was embarrassed by then.

"Had your phone on you?" he asked.

"Yes," okay that's two words said correctly.

"And your friend, Morgan Green said she called you, is that right?"

"Yes, she asked me where I was. I told her I was in a truck," doing well. I can do this.

"When you were done talking to Miss. Green did you think of calling the cops once you finished that call?"

"No, the other girls told me to but I didn't."

"Why not?" the tone of his voice was cold and harsh as he spoke on.

"I don't know."

"Is it because you didn't want to be found?" he said glaring at me writing on his little notebook.

"No, I just thought..."

"Everyone knows that you call the police when you are in trouble, kidnapped, or whatever it is maybe. So what did you do?" I couldn't find the words. "Nothing, right? You hated your life, correct? You didn't care what happened to those other girls in the truck. You didn't care what happened to you as long as it took you away," he stopped for a moment to watch me. "You were close to your younger sister Edea, like a mother to a child and once she died you fell apart, your whole world. You don't care what happens to you, do you?"

"I don't know why I didn't call, but that's not it," I said.

"It's pretty damn close. Have you seen a dead body, Miss Moore?" I remembered the chains and the warm blood, that I had thought was coffee, on my feet. "Was it one of those girls in the truck?" shaking my head, it was too dark. There were funny sounds but there was so much blood... I killed her. I did it, if I just made that call.

"I killed her," I whispered.

"You didn't know, but that doesn't matter does it?"

"What are you talking about?"

"You didn't think about it until now," he said crossing his arms.

"What about the others?" I asked running up to him.

"We found a few alive, but the others are reported dead. You're the last one Miss Moore. You have a choice, stay here or come back to the human world," I started thinking. "Nothing will happen to you. You will be returned home and everything will go back the way it was," what do I do. "Should I remind you, my brother let you go. He told you to leave. He doesn't want you and that makes you open to any vampire that wants to sink his teeth in you. It's too dangerous for you to stay. It's best for you to say good bye to your friends and pack your things."
