《Don't Say NO [Book 1]》Chapter 16

The dining room was filled with candle light, a fire place, lit, form the other side of the room. A long table sat in the middle of the room with six chairs. In front of those black chairs were gold silverware placed neatly down. I was starting to think that maybe this family is really related to the Addam's family.

I followed Connor to the table, we were the only two who were in the room. This feels like a trap. "They will be here soon," as if he read my mind. Nodding my head I slowly moved away from him to the fire place.

Can't even apologize for what he had done, but he gave me some time. I watched the fire dance as I hugged myself. This dress was getting itchy and my shoes were killing me. I'm surprise I didn't fall yet. From the corner of my eye I say Connor walk over to the window, with his hands in his pockets. His suit was tight around his chest, as his muscles showed themselves. Looking up from embarrassment, I saw that the fire place had a family portrait above it.

The portrait was maybe from the 18th century. Fredrick was young looking as he stood behind Marika who was sitting in a chair. Connor stood in the far right, he looked to have been a teen. Long hair looks good on him. In the middle was another man who may have been a teen. He had his hair in a ponytail, cold eyes, and his lips that were in a tight straight line. He looked pissed. Then I looked at Mel who didn't even look like she aged. They were all dressed formal, will groomed... and happy. I wonder what my family photo would look like.

"Good times," I felt someone breath behind me, making me jump. "I apologize for startling you," Fredrick said with a weak smile.

"No, it's alright," trying to keep myself in check. Lately I have been off edge and it's not like me to do so. Looking towards Connor his back was still facing me but he was looking at me through the window. Our eyes meet for just a moment before Fredrick cleaned his throat.

"I wanted to also apologize for not seeing you during your stay here," he gave me a small smile, showing his fangs.

"There is no need, but thank you," giving him a gently smile.

"My wife thought it would be for the best to not get to close to you," he said quickly. "You see I get hungry very easily due to my age. And I fear that I may eat you without thinking. But that does not mean that I don't want to get to know you more," his child like smile started to creep me out. This whole conversation was creepy, but I gave him smile anyway.

"Thank you for being honest with me," bowing my head a little, "I heard that Marika was on vacation," trying to change the subject.

"Honeymoon," his face grew red as his eyes started to shade into a light pink. He brought shivers down my spine as I saw a hint of hunger in those pink eyes, "our hundred and tenth."

"You must have had a fun time."

"Yes, yes I did," he whispered in a husky tone. He seemed almost proud as he said those words. His eyes became redder as he was lost in his thoughts. Losing my smile I looked away a little uncomfortable. After a few seconds I glazed up to see him close his eyes and shake his head. Opening them they were back to its normal color. He turned his head towards the door and vanished before my eyes. "Dear, you look lovely," I heard his voice yell out the words in the hall way.

"Please Frederick, not now. Your son will be here soon," Marika says followed by a soft giggles. The sound of her heels head to the doorway and found their way into the dining room.

"He won't mind," he yelled in the hallway. He came in the room a short time later with his head down in disappointment and arms hanging low.

"Frederick, please stand up straight," watching him walk slowly to the table, Mairka rolled her eyes with a cat like smile. "If you suck it up now, I'll let you do whatever you want later."

"Really?" the tone of his voice was sad and weak and he slowly straightened his back.

"I won't say it again," she frowned, making a serious face. She reached for his tie, pulling him towards her as she tilted her head. Fixing his tie, their eyes meet as he leaned in. Whispering his name he quickly took her mouth, making it rough and wild. Embarrassed, I looked at the fire.

"Get a room," we all looked at Mel standing at the door way. Her hair was in a bun, with makeup perfectly placed on her face. Her eyes found me, narrowing in. "What's the human doing here?"

Connor looked at me as I waited for him to speak but he didn't. Frederick did, "I thought since Miss. Dawn has been with us for some time that it would be nice, if we all had a meal together."

"'A meal,'" she arched her one eyebrow, with a smile she showed her fangs. I felt my heart skip a beat as I stood my ground, challenging her to come at me. She took two steps towards me, I was ready if she was going to pawn me, I think.

"Enough, Melantha. I want you on your best behavior. Do you understand?" her mother said in a firm tone.

Mel made eye contact with her mother, made a ninety degree angle, with her back towards us. "I guess so," she said sourly. We all stood silently as the fire crackled behind me. I glazed at everyone before looking at the ground, kicking my left foot an inch off the floor.

I wonder what Victor is like. Nice? Mean? Or strange? I can kind of see him as a control freak. Gazing back at the family portrait, I looked at Victor's face, studying him. A beautiful jaw line, light brown hair. His ice blue eyes showed no fear. He was a man that followed orders. Well that's just me guessing.

"He's here," Marika said happily. Turning towards the door I saw no one. Everyone got together as I walked around the table to stand a few feet away from them. I felt so out of place. Should I stand next to them or return to the fireplace?

As if Connor say my dilemma, he offered his hand to me. Studying his hand, I didn't know what to do. I was angry at him and yet I felt like if I touched him, I won't be angry anymore. He called me Nina for god sakes. This was a trap... or maybe he wanted to relax me from my problem.

The moment I heard footsteps I threw myself at him like a scared cat. He embraced me in his arms as I quivered. He was warm as he brought me closer to him. Taking in his intoxicating scent I felt like I would fall asleep right here. It felt nice.

We made eye contact just for a moment that felt like forever. Breaking it off, I followed his jaw line to his firm lips. I tried to remember what those lips felt like against my own, what his mouth tasted like. Lost in thought I found myself inching close to those lips as he did the same. Braking our connection a woman spoke at the doorway. "Mr. Wolff has arrived," bowing her head she left the area.

"Mother, father," his strong tone clicked to me. Making me lose interest in Connor. Marika welcomed her son in a hug as he took in her embrace. "My son, how have you been?" she asked.

"Well mother, and you?" he smiled.

"Same," letting him go, Victor took Frederick's hand.

"Father, looking well."

"Very," Frederick has a sly smile of his face as he looked at his wife, making her blush. Frederick's character had changed from a shy old man to a hungry, lustful man.

"Still working in the human world I see," Mel smiled making herself look innocent and small. "Are you staying long?" she said as she gave him a big hug.

"No, I'm sorry," he gave her gently eyes, showing her that he felt guilty. Putting his hands on her shoulders, "Maybe I'll take you to Paris some time."

"That's what you said last time," she frowned. Mel tilted her head towards Connor and I, smiling at me. What's with that smile? Is she trying to make me jealous? It's not working. Having my back on Connors body I felt him get closer as he wrapped his right arm around my belly. Tilting my head I smiled. Glaring at me, Victor saw this and turned his head so he was facing me now. As if Mel read his mind, "that's Connors human."

With a smile," Aren't you a little old for a pet human," he said with his body towards us.

Making a fist, I was tried of being called a pet. Connor pulled me even more close, if it was possible. Looking up a Connor he was focused on his brother. "She's not a pet," I felt my legs shake at his words.

Victor inched towards us, but stopped suddenly, "She smells like a Lycan child."

"Dawn is taking care of one until she can find it a home."

"Her name is River, not it," I called out. Marika narrowed her eyes at me from behind Victor, telling me to shut it.

"Dawn," Victor whispered. His eyes started to turn to a different shade of color. Connor saw this and pulled me to the table to sit as everyone followed. A maid came into the dining room with a cart, five gold goblets filled with red liquid, sat. She came around the table, putting the first goblet next to Frederick. Watching her I was waiting for mine, but she passed me. Placing the last one in front of Connor, I watched him take a sip, he smiled. "Children shouldn't drink," his glazed over to me.

"I'm not a child," pouting, he laughed. Placing his mouth back onto the lips of the goblet I watched his Adams apple move. Squeezing my legs together, I almost feared that he would be able to tell, and everyone else to know that I was becoming aroused. This was unfair and most uncomfortable for me. Moments later two other maids come in placing a plate in front of everyone as Frederick stood up.

"I want to thank my wife for giving me these beautiful, wonderful children. Not only that, but to make this old man feel younger then he really isn't," he said winking at Marika. She smiled at him before looking away with red eyes. Mel was disgusted and I was filled with joy. Frederick and Marika were two people who loved each other. It made me a little jealous to see this family act like this, parents who love both their children and spouse, something I didn't have.

"Frederick," she giggled. "Stop that, let's eat. I'll be needing the energy," she says with a cat like smile.

Mel covered ears and I let out a soft giggle. Leaning in Connor whispered in my ear," what's so funny?"

"Their so cute, your parents," I whispered back. Our eyes met, and everything in the room was gone. It was as if we were the only two people in the room. Just imagining him to touch me under the table was so wrong but felt so right.

Victor cleared his throat, "so how's work, Connor?" he asked.

"I was going to leave today, but I had to stay. Our mother would never forgive me if I left without seeing you let alone not sharing a meal," he said.

"True, I'm sorry."

"No need," the rest of the night was quit as we ate. No one spoke. This was no different back at home, but it felt nice to eat with someone. I wonder if Edea's lonely, even if she's gone, I hope there is someone on the other side making her smile and laugh.

I smiled at the thought of my sister being happy. To see her bright smile once more. I wonder, will River be happy too. Even if she didn't know her parents. Will she have that bright smile that my sister had once held? Will I see that day were River will grow to be a beautiful woman? And will Connor help her grow and live to be that woman?

If every girl who was beside Connor died, then I too may not have a lot of time. I have to make sure River will be safe when I'm gone, and that Connor's name is cleared. Because I know for a fact he didn't do it. And I was not the only woman who knew that. Nina, the one he loved. Sighing, I felt cold eyes watch me. Across the table Victor, watched my every move. Fear washed over me, does he have something to do with Connor's misfortune?
