《Rythian Enderbane》Chapter 5: The Girl

Walking for days, I finally came across a natural water source. It was a large lake with a cliff on one side. It would be great to climb that cliff and build my base on top of it, but that could wait. I was tired so I set up camp, caught a fish from the lake and ate happily. Then I slept.
Zoey's POV
Laura looked at me, fearfully. Her pale white freckles shone through her scarlet skin. She looked at my like I'd gone crazytownbananapants, but never, never would that happen to me! The truth was, I was actually scared of this cliff diving attempt... I'd done such things before, and I'd done the maths for this cliff - It was under 50 feet high which meant I'd be fine; 50 feet being the point when water feels like concrete when you hit it - but I couldn't be certain!
In an attempt to aid my sanity, my mushroom friend pleaded with me in her small voice. I didn't listen.
I was ready to go; I had tight clothing on, to keep me streamlined, and my gold goggles were down over my eyes.
Gripping Laura in my palm, I ran towards the edge. Then, I jumped and she actually screamed! I started to fall towards the lake when I saw a man by it. He was staring at me as I fell. Suddenly, I noticed how close to the water I actually was. I moved my limbs into a more streamlined position and dived head first into the water. It hurt when I hit the crystallized lake and I struggled to stay above water. So instead of staying above, I took a deep breath, and sank to the bottom. I proceeded to walk along the bed of the lake until I reached the shore.

Rythian's POV
Waking up at dawn, I looked around to see the silhouette of a person on the cliff. Then, they disappeared.
I started to get some bread from my bag, when all of a sudden, the figure was back, and hurtling towards the large pool of water below! I watched as it fell. I thought the person would drown! They moved swiftly into a more streamlined position and slid through the water sleekly. But they were not able to keep above water, and they sank. The last thing I saw was a lot of bright red, flaming hair as they moved closer to the lake's sandy bed. I would have jumped in to save them.... But I had never learned to swim. It would be no help if I tried to help, because I'd probably end up drowning myself! So I just watched, in horror.
But then, I saw the same flames of hair rising from the water, it startled me to find that this person, an amazing diver, swimmer and more, was a girl!
Sexist as I was being, I just could not believe my eyes! She was wearing very tight clothing which clung to her wet body. I looked away, quickly, and grabbed one of my older capes, holding it out to her, squirriferously.
(N/A: This word means gentleman-like-ly, sorry, I had to include it, it's my favourite word ever!)
Zoey's POV
I surfaced the shallow water and inhaled, deeply. The man I saw early was staring at me, like he couldn't believe his eyes. Well, of course he couldn't, I'm awesome! I pushed up my stylin' goggles to see him more clearly, just as he blushed wildly and turned away. He reached for something and handed it to me! It was a light brown - Almost orange - cape with a leaf broach. I have a feeling be wanted me to use it as a towel... and then give it back... instead, I used it as a towel and then said,

"Thanks! This is my favourite colour! How'd you know?"
He looked back at me, startled. I noticed, now, that he was wearing a dark purple mask, covering half his face! How hipster of him. Very indie. I liked him already!
Rythian's POV
I turned round, to see that she had used the cape as a towel to dry her hair, but now she was wearing it! Her eyes were as gold as her goggles and they seemed to stare straight into me. It reminded me of Duncan. I wasn't too keen on her so far.. Especially as she stole one of my capes!
"Look, I gave you that so that you could dry yourself, not so that you could steal it," I stated, "Give it back."
"You better catch me first!" And she set off running. I ran after her, and I was fast, I soon caught up to her and I pinned her down.
Zoey's POV
I was pinned, he had his hands on my elbows and his knees holding down my legs. This guy was good. But I was better!
"You know, I didn't notice until now, but you have awesome eyes," I watched as he blushed, "And you're very fit..." I moved my head towards his, slowly.
His grip loosened and I slid free, laughing at the fact that he fell for such a simple trick!
"You fell for it!" I commented between fits of hysterical laughter, " You really fell for it! The oldest trick in the book!" I stopped laughing and asked myself, out loud, "Or was it the second oldest?" I couldn't remember, and now I wanted to know. At this, he laughed and walked away to his campsite.
I couldn't understand why he was laughing.. until I noticed that I was cold.
Rythian's POV
I walked away, my cape in my hands, laughing. I set it down to dry by the fire, and I watched to girl come strolling over to me. I held the cape with an iron grip.
"Hey! That's not fair!" She shouted at me, she sounded child-like and innocent.
"Oh, it's very fair, you stole my cape, I stole it back!" I replied
"Fine."
"Yes, fine"
There was a chilly wind that snapped at my neck. The girl across from me shivered violently.
"What's your name?" She asked me.
"I'm Rythian."
"Rythian, can I wear your cape, I'm cold."
"You are able to, yes." I replied, wittily.
"Ah, but you see, Rythian, when I said 'can' I was using it in it's secondary form, as a verbal modifier, asking for permission, rather than in it's primary form of expressing an ability."
This girl was good.
"Sure, you can use it," I said, in defeat, "What's your name?"
"Zoey!" She smiled as she pulled the cape round her shoulders.
Then she started chuntering about lots of weird things. I caught something to do with mushrooms...... and snow?

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.
