《His Unknown Child》Chapter 39: I say goodbye

"911, what's your emergency?"
"Car crash, off- off edge."
"Ma'am, I'm gonna have to ask to use your words please."
"It looks like three cars crashed. Two are on the road destroyed and the third one fell off the edge of the cliff, I can see when I look down."
"Ma'am, can you tell me where you're located?"
"Highway 34, West of Platon Ridge."
"Okay, we are sending help, can you see anybody in the two cars on the road?"
"Yes, the white car has two adults and looks like a teen and the second car looks to have just one adult or teen, I can't tell."
"Thank you, now car three, what color?"
"It appears to be blue."
"Can you see anybody in it?"
"No, it's flipped upside down and crushed."
Sirens of ambulances and police
"I need a team over to car numbers one and two."
"Yes sir."
Helicopter sounds
"Witney, Sots, Playten, Rodney, and Triton, come with me to help get car number three."
"Yes sir."
"Captain, it's too narrow. The copter won't fit."
"Shit, okay, I'm gonna need you and another to hook yourself up to the climbing rope and I'll pull you down."
"Willy, you're coming me."
Ambulances and helicopters were everywhere. NEWS people were trying to get every juicy detail they could get. People stopped on sides of the road to look at the damage.
The first car had a mother and father with their teenage daughter. The mother was pronounced dead, the collision killed her instantly, but the father and daughter were rushed to the hospital.
The second car had actually three teens. The two were in the back seat but they could not have been seen due to the collision which killed them and their bodies fell to the floor. The one teen that was saved was also rushed to the hospital.
Now car number three was off the cliff and crushed badly due to the impact it landed. None of the rescue teams could see if anybody was in it. The bottom of the cliff was too far and it took longer than it should just to get to the car.
"I can't see anyone unless their unnoticeable- wait...I see a man and it looks like a toddler!" People rushed faster, tried to move the car but every time the car moved, it crushed down even more. The firefighters brought their car tools and lifted up the car. The doors were torn off and glass was moved out of the way.
When the rescue team got to the two human beings, the man was huddled around the toddler and to the looks of it, the toddler had minor injuries but the man was in much more serious condition.
"I have a fatal heartbeat." The toddler was pulled out quickly and carefully. "I do not have a heartbeat of the man, quickly here." The man was pulled out and laid on the stretcher.
"CLEAR!" The paramedics tried to get back his heartbeat. "Still no beat, keep going!"
"CLEAR!" Still no heartbeat.
"Come on, keep going, we have to save this man!" This medic was the only one who wanted to keep going but everyone stopped and looked down in sorrow.
"He's gone. Time of death, 5:16pm." The medic looked at them all in horror.
"No, we don't stop. We keep trying. This man here is most likely the father of that little boy! We have to keep trying!" The head medic look at him.

"Okay."
"But sir, we already announced his death."
"We still need to keep trying. Load him to the ambulance quickly and I want a heartbeat."
The man had been relocated to the ambulance and had many people helping to save the man's life. As the medics did that, the ambulance went straight to the hospital.
Time and time has passed and still no heartbeat of the man, but the little boy was alive but in critical conditions. No one has figured out who the two were but did find out who everyone else was.
The survivors had minor and serious injuries.
Car 1: Father Dan Young survived but paralyzed from hips down.
Daughter Victoria Young survived with a broken arm and foot.
Car 2: Fred Jenkins survived with a broken hand, three broken ribs, and head trauma.
In loving memory of Martha Young, Harley Finley, and Megan Rose...

"He stopped breathing, I need IV tubes and I need someone to do CPR." The doctors all looked at each other. "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" After the yelling, they all went back to work and someone took over CPR.
beep beep beep beep
"Good work everyone, we got him back. I need three residents and some interns to stay and watch over the boy. Change his bandages every two hours, change his feeding tube every 6 hours, if he goes into cardiac rest, I want to be paged immediately. Help him immediately." The doctor left and the three residents and three interns went straight to work to help keep the little boy alive.
In the meantime, it has been three hours since the little's boys assume to be father has been "dead." The doctors keep trying and right now, they are in surgery, trying to find the source some bleeds. "I think I found something." One doctor said as she reached further behind the heart. "I feel some fluid over here and something hard right here." The nurses drained the fluid out so the doctor could see more. "It's stuck in his heart, this might be the reason why he won't come back, the heart pumps and this little piece of something digs deeper into the heart making it stop." She slowly removed it but blood starting going everywhere. "Doctor, we only have twenty minutes." She looked up. "Shit. I need suction and another hand. I need more blood and stitches right now."
It took more than half the time that the doctor intended and she still needed to get him back.
"Three minutes doctor." The nurse said.
She tried not to panic and focused on him breathing.
"Clear." She said.
The man's chest pumped up from the shock wave but still no movement.
"Again, clear." She tried once more and the man's body lifted up and went back down. "No, no, no. AGAIN! CLEAR!" She had hope that the third time is a charm and he will breath.
She waited five seconds and still no heartbeat. She fell to the floor crying, she knows it's unprofessional but it was necessary.
"Time of death-" beep...everyone's heads lifted up to look at the monitor then at the man then back at the monitor.
beep beep beep
"He's got a steady heartbeat!" Everyone in the room cheered and hugged each other.
"Let's get back to work." The head doctor said and everyone rushed to their duties.
"I've found info about the boy." A nurse ran into the room with papers stacked in her arms. She gave him the paper and starting talking. "Aidan Burns. Son of Charlie Grace. Age four."

"That's fantastic. We really needed that. Call the mother this instant."
"There's no father on here. But there was a man in the car with him. We're guessing he's the father. He's in surgery right now, they recovered him."
"Just call the mother then. When the man get's out of surgery maybe she can identify him."
"Yes doctor."
The nurse ran back to her work station two floors up and started scanning the paper of information of the boy.
Her eyes stopped at "mother's home phone."
The nurse dialed and waited for an answer.
"Hello?" A soft voice said through the phone.
"Is this Charlie Grace?" The nurse went straight to conversation.
"Yes it is. May I ask who's calling?"
"I'm nurse Sherry calling to you that your son was involved in terrible accident." You could hear the gasps and "oh my gods" repeat constantly.
"Oh my god."
"He's here at Stevens Hospital. He's stable for now."
"Is he hurt badly? Where's his father?"
The nurse sighed. "He's stable for now as I said. His injuries aren't as bad as you may think. He was protected pretty safely by a young man." Charlie knew that it had to be Ashton but the nurse never mentioned about the father. Probably because his name isn't on the birth record and Charlie hasn't updated her paper work and put Ashton's name as an emergency contact.
"It was his father. Ashton Burns."
"Ashton Burns you said?"
"Yes."
"Charlie, I'm gonna need you to come down here. I have paper work for you to fill out also."
"Okay."
They both hung up and the nurse quickly printed of the sheets of paper.
"Twan." Charlie cried with horror while packing a small bag.
"Charlie? What happened?" Twan tried comforting her but she didn't seem to budge and hug him back.
"It's Aidan and Ashton. We need to go to the hospital now." She demanded.
"Oh shit. They were involved in that terrible car crash?"
Charlie nods. "Yes and we need to hurry." Charlie ran out the door and into the car.
"I'm driving." She just nodded and sat in silence.
They starting driving and it was gonna be a long drive. Stevens hospital is about an hour drive.
"I'm gonna call Ashton's mother."
"Hello dear." Ashton's sweet mother replied.
"Mrs. Burns, Ashton has been involved in a serious crash with Aidan. They both are at Stevens Hospital. The nurse told me that Aidan's stable for now but they couldn't give me info on Ashton because they haven't identified him yet." All the words spilled out as she tried to go slowly.
"I'm on my way to the hospital now dear. Thank you." Ashton's mother just hung up.
"That was weird."
"What?"
"She just hung up saying she was headed to the hospital now."
"That is weird."
Ashton's mother was speeding the whole way to the hospital. Her eyes were covered by salty tears and her cheeks were flushed bright red.
She kept wiping her eyes with her hand to try and focus on the road.
When she wiped her eyes once more, she stepped on the breaks and swerved to much which caused her car to flip numerous times and land at a stop right in front of crying little girl.
"OH MY GOD!" People surrounded the car and tried helping the person inside. Multiple people called 911.
"Ma'am, are you okay?" People asked the lady but she was unresponsive.
Ambulances arrived and quickly helped the lady. She was breathing slightly and they rushed her to the hospital.
Today was not the day for the Burns family, or any family.
Just like any other day, death occurs. Family's hearts are broken and crushed. More deaths are occurred during that, then more and more and more.
All the sorrow bottled up, ready to be spilled out and when it does, it isn't pretty.
People do handle it, eventually. They finally except the fact that life has to move on with them or it will just move on without them.
Maybe death is a good thing.
It shows emotion.
A different kind of emotion that we really don't want and try to avoid. We all want a happy emotion, joyful, playful, but when we get to use to that same emotion we lose control and take advantage of it. We forget what it's like to feel other emotions and when that different emotion comes around, we take it horribly. We take it as if it's brand new and don't know how to use it.
We've studied why we die. Is there a way to prevent death? Is there a way we can live forever and never die? Is there a way we can never feel that emotion?
No, there is no way to avoid it. That emotion is going to be with you your entire life time. It will happen at some point. Maybe not tomorrow or a week later or heck, maybe not ten years later, but it will follow us.
You will lose a family member. A friend. A pet. Anyone really.
You can get that emotion by just scraping your knee from riding your bike without training wheels for the first time.
Lost a contest that you put all your effort into.
Lost prom king or queen.
Didn't make the soccer team.
Or just missed your bed during work and couldn't wait to go home.
You can get the emotion by being happy.
Two at once? Possible?
Yes.
"This is Ashton Burns's mother." The nurse spoke as the doctor was putting on his gloves.
"Today is just not the day is it?" The whole room as silent as if it was abandon.
"Any emergency contacts?"
The nurse scanned the paper. "Besides Ashton Burns, not really. Wait." She looked longer. "Charlie Grace." The doctor sighed. "Inform her right away."
"Yes doctor." The nurse left in silence.
"Charlie, calm down. Everything should be alright."
"Nothing will be alright until I see my son."
"You're stressing way too much. It's not healthy for the baby." Charlie held back her response before she said the one thing that's keeping her steady in life.
"I'm sorry."
Twan held her to his chest and rubbed her head to sooth her down.
"Don't apologize. None of this is your fault."
"If only I just didn't call Ashton. I should've handle the situation like a real parent."
"We had no clue that something like this was going to happen."
"Charlie Grace?" A doctor called from the front of the waiting room and Charlie bursted out of Twan's arms and to the doctor, Twan followed.
"How is he?" She cut to the chase.
"Aidan is stable. No broken bones, just a few cuts and bruises. He's still sleeping but you can go to his room if you like."
"That would be nice." The doctor nodded and led them to Aidan's room number.
Once Charlie entered the door she fell to the floor on her knees and cried, holding her son's hand.
"He should wake up within a few hours. He's just really tired."
"Before you go doctor." Charlie got up, "What about Ashton Burns. Aidan's father?" The doctor went through some papers.
"Yes. Ashton Burns. Ashton- Here we go. He's still in surgery. I can have a nurse come by after he's out if you like?" Charlie looked at Twan and he simply nodded.
"Yes, thank you doctor." The doctor gave them a small smile before leaving.
"Charlie Grace?" The door of Aidan's room opened to reveal a different doctor.
"Yes."
"Hi, I'm Doctor Tanner." Charlie shook her hand.
"Nice to meet you. Do you have information about Ashton Burns?"
"Kind of."
"What do you mean kind of?"
"Ashton Burns's mother was involved in a car crash. It seems to be she was speeding her way here to see her son. She's stable for now but in critical condition. You were the only emergency contact person besides Ashton.
"Today isn't the best fucking day."
"Would you like to see her?"
"You go." Twan said. "I'll stay here with him, just in case he wakes up for something." Charlie just nodded and follow the doctor.
How could this happen to his family? Charlie thought.
How- her mind thoughts were slipped away from the doctor who opened a door.
"I'll be back in a few." With that the doctor left.
"Mrs. Burns."
"Charlie Grace. It's so fantastic to see you. It has been too long." She coughed.
"You too. I missed you."
"So does Ashton." Charlie's heartbeat skipped at the words she said.
"I hope he's okay." Charlie tried to change the subject a bit.
"He still loves you you know."
"How? He clearly said he doesn't but yet kisses me, but yet doesn't want anything to do with me."
"How's the baby then?"
"How'd you know?"
"I know everything my dear." She chuckled. "Ashton told me on the phone. Saying that you said that Aidan was suppose to be a twin."
"Well it's true, but he didn't believe me. So I came back to reality."
"But you haven't told Twan yet about it?"
"Ashton and you have such a lovely bond."
"Don't change the subject." She grabbed Charlie's hands.
"Ashton loves you. He's happy that he had Aidan and that he found you once again. It's just he always complained about Twan. I bet he's a sweet guy and good around Aidan, I believe that. I believe you when you say the baby is Ashton's. It seems impossible but it just happened. I want you to tell Ashton something."
She grabbed Charlie's hands tighter as if she knew she could trust her.
"Tell him that I am the proudest mother on this planet. I could of never raised him better. He became a great kid, great teenager, and a wonderful father. I'm so thankful to call him my son and Aidan my grandson."
"Why don't you just tell him that yourself?"
She sighed. "Because I want you to tell him. Also say that he's an ass for not showing his true emotions around you." Charlie chuckled.
"I don't see that big deal. You can tell him that yourself. He doesn't need to hear that from me."
"Give him this box too. He is to open it once he gets better. Not before and not later." She handed Charlie a old looking brown jewelry box.
"Where did this come from? What's in it?"
"I'm afraid my time has come. That's why I need you to tell him that and give him that. Also, give this to Ashton." She pulled out a small wrapped present that said, Aidan. "Ashton must give this to Aidan on his eighteenth birthday only." Charlie was confused on where she got all this stuff.
"Your time has come? No! You're suppose to be here for Ashton! This isn't fair!"
"I know sweetheart, but in the longer run in your life, Ashton and Aidan will have you."
beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
"NO! NO! NO!" The deep hard crackle of Charlie voice echoed through the room like Prim Rose of the Hunger Games. "NURSE! PLEASE NO!" The tears had taken over her face as doctors and nurses filled the room.
"CLEAR!" A doctor said.
"NO!" A nurse said right before they tried to recover her. "It says in her paper work that she wants to be let go. She does not wish to be recovered once she goes. Those are her wishes."
Charlie looked up in horror.
"NO! HELP HER YOU SICK BASTARDS. HER SON NEEDS HER! HE'S IN SURGERY RIGHT NOW AND WHEN HE WAKES UP HIS MOTHER IS GOING TO BE DEAD!" Charlie screamed at the entire room but no one tried to stop her or helped Ashton's mother. They all took the yelling.
"I'm sorry ma'am but those are her wishes." Charlie fell to the floor once again.
Death is such a pain but we all have to live through it.
Charlie is having the most stressful day of her entire life. She doesn't have any information on the father of her son and father of her unborn child. She just wants to today to restart and try it all over again, this time, the right way.
It's been awhile, yes.
I know, this chapter was written weirdly. I wanted to try something different. So I tried. I think it turned out not so bad but it could of been better, but hey? Who's judging?
And I also know what you're thinking.
And if some of you think this is the last chapter then your wrong...we are far from it.
