《His Unknown Child》Chapter 37: My Tears

"Dad." I reached out on the bed but there was nobody. "DAD!" I ran across the hall, panicking, not knowing what's going on.
I walked slowly down the stairs and started to hear voices. It sounds like dad. As I got closer to the tv room, I could hear the voices more clear.
"It's not Twan's Ashton, it's yours." I heard.
"Not possible. We haven't had sex since the day, since the week before I cheated." I didn't really understand them, but what I did understand was dad cheated. He cheated in a game? Is that why mommy isn't with dad anymore?
"I'm telling you the truth. Here." Mommy handed dad a folder. "I didn't know it was possible. Neither did the doctors, they did so many tests. They said that it's only happened once, to a women in San Juan, but when she was giving birth, she and the baby died. It has never happened since." I tried to squint and see the papers but they were too far away. Oh well.
I don't understand them. Might as well go back to bed.
I walked back to dad's room and crawled into the bed, within seconds, I think I was out.
"Hey, time to get up." I could hear dad's voice softly in my ear.
"I tired." I said.
"I bet you are, but if your hungry then there's pancakes and bacon in the kitchen, but hey, if you're tired then I'll eat them all." I ran out of bed as fast as I could go and ran to the kitchen.
"Thank you dad." I said as I stuffed my face with pancakes.
"No problemo bud." I giggled and looked out the window.
"Why is raining still?" Dad turned around.
"I don't know, maybe the clouds are sad."
"Why are the clouds sad?" Dad laughed.
"I don't know." We both stared at the window and watched the raining drizzle down against the window creating blurry patches.
"What are we going to do now?" We can't go to the water park, it's too wet.
"Well, I was planning on registering you to school." My face fell.
"School?" I didn't exactly what school was about, but I remember mommy talking about how horrible it was to grandma.

"Yes school. You're four now, you will be going to Junior Kindergarten." Dad opened his laptop.
"Junior Kindergarten?"
"Yes, but you'll only be going for half days. There's a morning to afternoon, or afternoon to 3:30. I have to talk to your mother to see which works best." I miss mommy, but when I'm at her house, I miss dad.
"Do I have to dad?" My face felt like jello.
"Yes you do. School helps you get better in life."
"But you and mommy help me." See, I don't need school.
"That's true, but school helps your education more. It helps mommy and dadd- dad, to help you more. It goes both ways." Oh.
"How does it help you?" I don't understand.
"Well, when you're in school, I can go to work even if it's my day with you. Then, when schools over, I come to pick you up. Same with mommy." I see now.
"Okay, makes more sense."
"I WIN!" I giggled and fell to the floor laughing so hard.
"No you don't. HERE COMES THE TICKLE MONSTER!"
"NO DAD STOP!" I laughed to much my belly hurt.
"RAWR!!!!"
"DAD!"
"WHAT!"
"WHAT WERE YOU AND MOMMY TALKING ABOUT?"
"What did you say?" He put me on the floor and looked at me.
"I heard you and mommy talking this morning. What were you talking?"
"Um, grownup stuff." Darn, I hate it when they say grownup stuff.
"Is it grownup stuff that you can tell me?" I smiled with my charm and wrapped my arms around dads arm.
"No, but I'm sure mommy will tell you." Dad's face looked white was a ghost and something didn't seem right.
"Okay. When does mommy come?" I wanted to know what the grownup stuff was and if mommy can tell me, I wanna know when she'll be here.
"She said around noon. Now if we went to the waterpark today, she would have picked you up at five."
"What time is it now?"
"12:00. So it's noon. Mommy should be here soon." Just then, a knock landed on the door.
"Mommy's here." I ran to the door and opened it, but it wasn't mommy, it was the delivery guy.

Dad laughed. "That's funny. Hi." Went looked at me then to the guy.
"Package for Ashton Burns." Dad took it and the guy left.
"What's in it?" I looked at it.
"Jesus Aidan, you're like a monkey. Climbing all over me and wanting to know everything."
"Sorry." I got off.
"I don't know what's in it. I'll open it later." He set it on the coffee table.
I cuddled in dad's arms until mommy would get here. Dad rubbed his fingers in my hair and kissed my head.
"You know I love you Aidan." I looked into his eyes.
"I know dad. I love you too." I hugged him but that was interrupted when there was a knock on the door again.
"Now that must be mom." I ran to the door and opened it.
"MOMMY!" I hugged her. Dad just laughed.
"What's so funny?" Mommy said to dad.
"Earlier someone knocked on the door and Aidan thought it was you, he was so excited, but when he opened the door, it was the UPS guy." Dad was laughing while I tried to jumpy up on his but I was too short to hit him. For fun.
"That's funny Aidan. Next time we see a UPS guy, I'll be sure to return you to him."Mom started laughing and dad just couldn't stop.
"Can we go now?" I hid my face from embarrassment.
"Yes. We can go now. Give your dad a goodbye hug and kiss first." I ran to dad and hugged him super tight and kissed his cheek.
"Love you dad"
"Love you too. I'll see you soon." I nodded and went back to mommy.
"Bye." Then the door closed and me and mommy were walking to the car.
"Mommy. Do you love daddy?" I asked as I buckled myself.
"I love that your dad loves you and we helps out, then yes."
"No mommy, I mean love dad. Do you love dad?"
"Oh, that kind of love. Well, Aidan, it's complicated. I love Twan, and I didn't love you're dad once, but now I love someone else." I couldn't tell if she was actually telling me the truth, but I believed her anyway.
"Oh, okay."
"When we get home, Twan and I have something very exciting to share with you."
"What is it?" I kept nagging.
"Twan, should we tell him now?" Twan walked into the room and wrapped his arms around mommy's waist.
"Most certain."
"Tell me!" I can't wait.
"You're going to have a baby brother or sister!" My face froze. I guess I wasn't as excited as I thought I could be.
"Aidan? Are you excited?" Mommy touched my shoulder. I couldn't talk. I didn't want Twan and mommy to have a baby. I wanted mommy and dad to.
"No, I don't want you and Twan to have it. I want you and dad to have it!" I started crying and ran to my room.
"Aidan." Mommy said, but I was already halfway upstairs.
I don't know why it upset me so much. It's just, all I've ever wanted was for mommy and daddy to be together forever. But I never told them that cause I wanted to give everyone a chance. I thought maybe I could have two dads and two moms, but I always come back to my real mom and dad. I cry most of the time in my head so mommy or daddy don't have to come see what's wrong. I don't want to ruin their happiness. I feel like if I bring anything like this up to them, it will ruin the happiness. I think I just ruined anyway. Telling mommy in front of Twan like that. It was horrible, but it was the truth. I know that mommy loves Twan now and wants to be with him forever, but I don't think I can do that and daddy has no one but me. Lilly left and now he's lonely. Sometimes I hear daddy crying at night when I'm not sleeping in his bed. It's really sad. I wish I could do something but I can't. I'm only 4. What can I do to help mommy and daddy? I just want a happy family with mommy and daddy.
My bed was soaked with my tears that fell off my cheeks and my face was red with spots of color of my skin. I wrapped a blanket around my cold small body and cuddle around my pillow on my bed. I barricaded myself under the blanket and cried myself to sleep hoping, it would calm me down...
