Colby's POV
"Does she have any family?" Sophia asked as she led us into her office. "Not that I know of. Her parents died when she was in high school." I said quietly as she pulled out Violet's file.
"Oh my...okay well then, I have to get back into the OR, I'm gonna bring you to the waiting room..I'll keep you updated on her status." Sophia said as she stood up. She looked visibly stressed which I could understand but it wasn't helping ease my mind at all.
We all stood up then walked to the waiting room. "I'll keep you updated." Sophia said then jogged out of the room. I felt like I was going to be sick as we sat down.
"I don't know what I'm gonna do without her." I whispered as Sam rubbed my back. "She's not gonna die, Colby. Don't think like that." Sam said as I brought my hands to my face.
"I can't help it, man. They shot her in the chest. Whoever did this wanted her dead, this wasn't an accident." I said as my heart seized in my chest. "They're going to jail for this. They're gonna pay for what they did." Sam said as I sniffled.
"She didn't fucking deserve this. It's all my fucking fault." I said and stood up so I could pace the room. "It's not your fault man...please calm down." He said as I kicked the wall angrily.
"I can't! She's going to fucking die because she fell in love with me. It's all my fucking fault!" I yelled as Sam stood up and wrapped his arms around me.
I collapsed into him as I started to sob. I couldn't live with myself knowing that Violet was fighting for her life all because we were together. It didn't make sense.
"Shhhhh, relax. It's gonna be okay..she's gonna be okay." Sam cooed as I sobbed into his shoulder. "I can't do this." I choked out as he rubbed my back.
"Shhhh, You're okay." He cooed and held me tightly.
I eventually calmed down just as Kat and Tara came into the room. "Hey, how's she doing?" Kat asked as she gave me a tight hug. "I have no idea." I whispered as I hugged Tara.
"Did you see who did it?" Tara asked as I shook my head. "No, I haven't heard anything." I said as Kat sucked in a breath.
"This is horrible." She whispered as we sat down again. The atmosphere in the room was heavy as we waited silently. It felt like the longest 3 hours of my life.

Sophia eventually came through the door. "Please tell me she's alive." I whispered as she came up to me.
"She's alive but she's still not doing well. The bullet hit her aorta and went straight through one of her lungs. She's on a ventilator right now which is breathing for her. She's staying strong but...the odds aren't good." She said as my heart shattered in my chest.
"Can I see her?" I whispered as she nodded. "Yeah, come on." Sophia said then opened the door so she could lead me to her room.
Sam, Kat, and Tara followed as she led up down the hallway. I didn't know if I was ready to see Violet like how I was about to see her. I didn't know if I would ever be ready though.
It didn't matter. I had to be there for her.
When Sophia opened the door I gasped at the sight. Violet was in the bed, with a tube in her throat. She was sickeningly pale and had to wear a neck brace.
"Oh, Vi..." I whispered as tears formed in my eyes. I walked over to her bed and took her hand, flinching at how cold it was.
"Try to talk to her, she might be able to hear you." Sophia said softly as I closed my eyes, holding in the tears that were forming.
"Hey, Vi. I'm so sorry that this happened..I'm so sorry baby." I whispered and kissed her hand. "I know you're fighting...but you're gonna live..you're gonna wake up and you're gonna recover." I said as Sam came over and rubbed my back.
"We're gonna do so many things when you recover. We're gonna road trip back to Colorado again so you can see the snow. I'm gonna take you to the northern lights, where we can camp and just watch the stars." I said and kissed her hand again.
"We have so much to do baby..this can't be the end for you. I understand if you wanna be with your parents though. I understand if you can't fight anymore. Just know that I love you. I love you so much, Violet." I said and leaned over so I could kiss her forehead.
"Colby.." Kat said as I started crying again. "What's up?" I asked and looked at her. "She's gonna live." She said and pulled me in for a hug. "Thanks for being here with me guys." I said as Tara walked towards Violet's bed.
"We love Violet and we love you." She said and took Violet's hand as the door opened again. "Hey, I just wanted to check in on her." A girl wearing scrubs said quietly as I nodded.

"She's alive." I whispered as she nodded. "Thank god." She said then came over to the other side of the bed across from Tara.
"I'm Aisha by the way..." The girl said as I smiled at me slightly. "It's nice to meet you." I said quietly then took Violet's hand again.
"Can you tell me what happened?" I asked as she nodded slowly. "There was a huge car accident..so we were all in the pit. Then when things cleared up Violet went to the locker room...the next time I saw her, she was bleeding out on the floor." Aisha said as she started crying.
"The shooter didn't even point her gun at me as I ran into the room. She didn't care about killing anyone but Violet." She said and wiped her cheeks. "We rushed her to surgery, but by the time we got there her heart stopped." She explained as my heart shattered.
"Brady was able to get her heart started but they didn't notice that the bullet punctured her lung until it was almost too late..there was just too much blood." Aisha said and closed her eyes for a second as I massaged Violet's hand.
"They had to do 3 blood transfusions in an attempt to keep her alive, but her heart stopped again. They thought about declaring her as dead but right as they were about to her heart just kinda started again." She explained as I wiped my wet cheek.
"She's tough but...her heart it weak right now. If it stops again I don't think it will restart." She said as a chill ran down my spine.
"She's gonna get through it." I said buy didn't fully believe what I was saying. "Can you tell us more about the shooter? Like what did she look like?" Sam asked as he came behind me and clapped his hand on my shoulder.
"I don't remember much..she had short blonde hair and she was maybe 21..I'm not sure." She said as my blood started to boil.
I stood up and punched the wall, not knowing how I was supposed to contain the anger. "Woah! Dude..." Sam said as I shook my head. "It was fucking Daisy. That psycho fucking bitch." I seethed as Sam grabbed my shoulders.
"She's going to prison. She can't bother us anymore." He said as I trembled with rage. "I should have protected her more." I said and looked at her lifeless body.
"You did the best you could, Colby." Kat said as I shook my head. "If I did she wouldn't be here." I said and then plopped into my chair again.
The guilt was eating me alive, knowing that I was basically the reason for this happening. I knew Violet wouldn't blame me for this but I couldn't help but feel sick to my stomach knowing that this happened because I loved Violet and not Daisy.
"Bro, are you okay?" Sam asked as I shook my head.
"No. It doesn't matter though. We should talk to V. She's probably lonely in there." I said then brought her hand to my lips.
We spent a long time talking to Violet, trying to coax her to come back to us but she wasn't budging. I wasn't expecting her to wake up any time soon though, dying two times in less than a day probably does a lot to your body.
"Hey, we're gonna go get some food, did you want anything?" Sam asked as he and the girls stood up. "No, I'm good." I said quietly as he nodded.
I knew they were giving me a minute alone with Violet, which I appreciated. I didn't know if I would be able to get through this without their help. My friends were really a family to me, and I was forever grateful for that.
"Hey, V. I don't know if you can hear me but...I just want you to know that you're the love of my life. There's never gonna be anyone else. One day I'm gonna marry you, and we're gonna have little kids running around, looking for adventures just like we do." I said and brushed her hair from her face.
"It won't be for a while because we're still kids ourselves but I just know you're the one for me. You're my soulmate, Violet. I love you...please just live for me..please." I begged as I started to cry.
I knew Violet would be upset with me for crying so much over her but in this moment right now I felt like I was losing her.
I couldn't lose her though.
