《Coffee Shop》Chapter Nine
Advertisement
Instead of going to the coffee shop, I decided to stay home because of a certain phone call I got this morning. Let's just say, now I'm not in the best of moods.
I try to distract myself with a shower and a movie on Netflix, but it doesn't work too well.
All day, the phone call just lingers, the thoughts never leaving my mind.
After all this time, I can't believe they chose now to call. What really frustrates me is that when she did call, she acted like nothing was wrong and seemed to think that just by her calling, all would be forgiven.
Well, Mom, it doesn't work that way.
Despite my racing mind, I manage to make dinner, cooking enough for Jordyn and Casey for when they come home. Their shifts end soon, and I'm sure they'll be hungry.
As if on cue, the door opens and the two of them enter, coffee in hand. Jordyn hands me my usual order and I quietly thank her.
"Guess what I did today, Al?" Jordyn asked in a suggestive tone after getting a plate of food.
"You're not gonna believe it," Casey chimed in as she sat on the couch next to me.
"What?"
"I set you up on a date tomorrow night!" She practically screamed.
"What?"
"And you'll never believe who with!" Casey screamed as well.
"Brendan!" They yelled in harmony.
"What?" Is all I can manage to say to them.
"Yes! We didn't give him your number, but we got his for you, he said you guys could meet at the coffee shop at five tomorrow if you want!" Jordyn elaborated, excitement still clear in her voice.
"Omg, Al, he's such a nice guy too!" Casey added.

"I can't believe you two," I breathed, in complete disbelief.
"You can thank us after your big date!" Casey squealed, getting Jordyn in on it too.
With both of them squealing, I speak up, "why would you guys do that? You really shouldn't have."
"Al, we were just trying to help cheer you up," Jordyn explained, her excitement fading fast.
"Well it was unnecessary, please don't do it again," I asserted.
"Seriously, Al, we thought it might cheer you up, especially after your phone call this morning," Jordyn continued.
"So you guys were listening to my conversations? I can't believe this."
"Al? Calm down, we were just trying to-"
"Cheer me up? Well it didn't work, good night," I cut Casey off and then left, going to my bedroom and leaving my half eaten dinner behind.
I can't believe they would set me up on a date without consulting me. And after this morning, I really don't want to be going out on a date with anyone, especially not Pretty Boy.

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.
