《Out With The Old, In With The New》Chapter 29

As the first of many, many apologies, Jacob buys Jade flowers, her favorite chocolate, a new pair of cleats, sews her jersey, and made her a very heartfelt apology letter. So, that's how we got here; with Jacob standing outside Jade's room at 2:38 AM with a basket of stuff in his hands.
He can't decide whether he wants to deliver the gift himself, leave it at the front desk, or just leave it outside her door for one of the nurses to bring in later.
After what seems like forever, he decides to just leave the basket in her room and head back home. Although he doesn't know it, Jade was awake the whole time. Drowning in her thoughts and feelings of confusion.
When Jacob leaves, Jade sits up and begins going through all the stuff in the basket. A bouquet, her favorite chocolates, a new set of cleats, two letters, and... her jersey.
She takes off the letter attached to her jersey, opens the envelope, and unfolds the neatly folded paper.
Jade: (He took time to origami fold the damn paper!?)
She quickly dismisses the thoughts of the paper and begins to read the letter:
'Dear, Jade- Nah fuck that. Hey- Nah too insensitive. Hi- too friendly. Hello- fuck I don't know how to do this. I want to start by saying I'm sorry. I know you're probably gonna throw the letter away just by seeing that, but I need to tell you.
I didn't mean to hurt you, ok? I didn't. I love soccer and I'd give any and everything just to play. But giving you up wasn't part of anything I'd ever wanna do. If you're still reading I don't think you believe me, but it's true.
One of two things can happen here. 1: You forgive me, we can start over, you and I start just being us, and I go to jail, OR 2: You hate me and I go to jail. I bet you're wondering about the whole "going to jail thing right"?
Well, I kinda, maybe, sorta bashed Derek's head into a locker. Broke his nose, fractured his skull, and had his jaw wired shut, and now his parents are deciding to press charges. If all goes well, all I get is the next two years of community service. If it doesn't... I may or may not be spending the next 10-20+ years in a cell.
Funny right? You know what they say about karma. It's a bitch. Or is it that it always comes back to you? I can't remember. Are you still reading? Who the hell am I kidding I'm writing this shit. This isn't a face-to-face interaction.
Look, the point is, either I'm forgiven or I die trying- Nah cause that just sounds like a fucking threat. MY GOD! WHY IS THIS SO HARD!? What I'm trying to say is that I'm sorry. I'm sorry and I shouldn't have done what I did.
Hey, I heard you get out of the hospital in a few days, right? Maybe we could just hang around the house for the day? Again! This. Is. A. Letter. Jacob! Oh, I know you got a new phone, so I got you a phone case you're gonna love.
I kinda just thought we could talk and chill since everyone's always out meaning we could have the house all to ourselves to do whatever. I did not mean for it to sound like that. How did that sound? Letter dumbass. I'm ranting, aren't I? LETTER! GOD DAMMIT! FUCK ME! Y'know what? I'm just gonna go now- GO WHERE!?!? THIS- Fuck this.
Not, like, fuck this, fuck you. Not fuck you. Never fuck you. Unless it's in, like, a playing way fuck you. This isn't helping is it? I'm gonna fucking kill myself. Y'know what? I'mma just... bye. Yeah, goodbye? Why the hell is this so difficult!? I wanna know how Matteo does this so easily!'
The next few paragraphs on the back of the page are just Jacob being a stupid, confused dork. Jade folds up the letter and sees a message written on the back of the envelope:
'P.S: I know you forgot my number, so I wrote it here'
Jade puts his number in her phone and takes the second letter out of the basket to read it:
'I had Caleb teach me how to sew so I could fix your jersey. I knew it wouldn't be perfect, but at least it'll be wearable now'
She takes the folded jersey out of the basket and unfolds it to hold it in front of her. The once all forest green has turned into lime green, and the white letters that once spelled out her name and made up her main number are now black outlined in white.
Jade holds the jersey to her chest and begins to cry, tears dripping onto the papers. She decides to call it a night before texting him. Jade turns off the lights and gently lowers her leg from the sling onto the bed. She covers herself with the blanket and falls asleep within a few minutes.
Unknown to her, Jacob is struggling to fall asleep. He lays in his bed tossing and turning before throwing himself back and letting out a frustrated sigh.
Jacob: What the fuck is wrong with life? Why the hell is it that every time I open my fat mouth something goes wrong!?
Jacob throws off the covers and decides to go out for the night. He puts on some sweatpants, grabs a hoodie, his phone, and house keys, and texts Caleb to let him know that he's leaving. He makes it halfway down the street when he gets a text from Caleb.
'Ok. Keep your head down. There might be police out for you.'
Jacob shuts his phone off and keeps going to who knows where. He thinks about his life, which is spiraling at the moment, while Noah's celebrating finally cracking down on what Sasha's been talking about.
Ever since the incident at the firehouse, Noah's made it his life mission to crack the statement "Because trusting people gets you killed in the end". He got his hands on the files of Sasha's dad, her uncle on her mom's side, her aunt on her dad's side, and her second cousin, Nate, on her mom's side.
The only thing they all had in common was the fact that they all SAed her during her teen years. That and the fact that they were all abusive towards her. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. You name it, it's there in some way. She's also been mumbling something along the lines of "I'm...sorry...". "...didn't mean to...". "...my fault Devon's dead...". He went back to the precinct and managed to get his hands on Devon Meeker's file.
Devon was under Sasha's watch when he died after being hit by a car when he was only 11 years old. After that, Sasa's father thought it best to put her into a juvenile correctional facility to "straighten her out". After she was released, she was put into the care of her brothers. Her mom made a clean getaway to God knows where, and her father... Her father was arrested for abuse, neglect, and several other charges.

Noah's finally figured it out. Everything that's been going on with Sasha wasn't because of him, it was because of her dad. Every little thing! He jumps us from the couch and begins going through all the files trying to find where he placed the one about her dad, and when he finally finds it, he screams in triumph.
Not because he couldn't find it before, no, but because the file's been updated, so you can see where he's currently being held. But that triumphant behavior doesn't last long when a shattering sound is heard behind him.
Noah slowly turns around and sees Sasha standing there pale looking at the pictures of Devon scattered out on the table.
Noah: Uh, hey, about those... I was- It- It was- I was just-
Sasha: Where...did you get these?
Noah: A- A few guys down at the precinct owed me a favor, so I...
Sasha: So...you know everything?
Noah: Look, I just- I didn't- I don't blame you for what you did.
Sasha: But you still think it was wrong, huh?
Noah: I didn't say that...
Sasha: But you're thinking it. Everyone does. I killed my uncle, my aunt, and my cousin. It was self-defense. I sold drugs, but it was for food and clothes. I stole, but I only did it because I needed to sell it for money, I swear.
Noah: Meeker, their heads were bashed in... They found narcotics in your school bag. They found $5,000 earrings in your pockets...
Sasha: You don't believe me, do you?
Noah: No, I- I do...(Sigh) I want to, I really do, but-
Sasha: No, no, I...I get it. I'll- I'll leave. You don't need a killer, thief, or druggie staying at your house. Thank you for your friendship and hospitality.
Sasha leaves the cellar and before Noah can even register what's happening, the front door closes indicating that she's already left. Noah runs upstairs and outside to the front porch to see Sasha running down the road in the rain with her bag in her arms.
Noah: MEEKER! MEEKER!
He runs down the street after her but goes back for a jacket and some boots just as it starts to snow. Noah leaves a note for Gabe since Brad's gonna be out all day doing the shopping. He runs back down the road while zipping up his coat and dialing Sasha's number again and again trying to talk to her, but it just goes to voicemail.
Five hours pass, but Noah doesn't find her. He decides not to get Katie and Caleb involved because they already have enough going on. With Jacob possibly going to jail, Amethyst and Jade in the hospital, and the stress of not being able to uphold the pedestal they were placed on, they don't need to be involved.
He continues searching and even decides to go down to the West Side to look for her. No luck whatsoever. She's not anywhere in his area, she's not in West Side, she's not anywhere in the South Side, so where could she be?
Noah thinks of every possible place she could've gone to and finally comes to one conclusion. The first place they ever did anything at all.
Noah: How could I have been so damn stupid!? Home Depot!
He hails a cab and slams a hundred dollars down onto the dash board.
Noah: Home Depot, downtown shopping central. Quick. Drive. Now!
Driver: Mhm.
The driver starts driving and picks up the speed going a full 20 miles over the speed limit. Going 60 in a 40? Really? Yes. Just yes. The cab driver lets Noah out a block away from Home Depot because of the blockade the police set up and Noah starts running to get to the old, run down shop.
He tries to get through the crowd, but is pushed back by most of the S.W.A.T team. Noah looks around at all the members that have their guns pointed up, so he looks to where they're pointing. He sees Sasha sitting cross legged on the edge of the roof with a gun in her hand pointed to her head.
A guy who looks to be the captain, hold up a megaphone and begins speaking.
Captain: Sasha Meeker, we have you surrounded. Turn yourself in peacefully and we won't be forced to use excessive violence.
Sasha: I didn't do it! I had to survive! Why the fuck doesn't anyone believe me!?
She holds the gun up to her head and puts her finger on the trigger. Noah pushes past the officers and forces his way to the front of the blockade.
Noah: DON'T! PLEASE!
Officers start dragging him back and he proceeds to struggle to get them off of him.
Noah: I BELIEVE YOU! HER DAD RAPED HER! SO DID HER UNCLE! HER AUNT AND COUSIN ABUSED HER WHEN SHE WAS PUT INTO THEIR CARE! SHE REPORTED IT SO MANY TIMES, BUT NO ONE DID ANYTHING! LET GO OF ME!
He starts thrashing as the officers try to put cuffs on him and tries to get away.
Noah: GET OFF! STOP IT! NO! GET THE FUCK OFF ME!
They finally get the handcuffs on Noah and start dragging him to a squad car while he continues to struggle.
Sasha: Noah...
Noah: MEEKER! LISTEN TO ME! YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG! I BELIEVE YOU! THE EVIDENCE DOESN'T LIE! SHE'S INNOCENT DAMMIT! I KNOW WHO KILLED DEVON MEEKER! SASHA! YOU'RE DAD'S A MURDERER! YOUR DAD IS-
A S.W.A.T member hits Noah on the back of his head knocking him unconscious. Sasha starts shooting at the men lifting Noah into the police car, and gets two of them in their backs, and one of them in their shoulder. Everyone starts shooting at her and hits her in multiple spots. She falls unconscious off the roof and falls onto an airbag at the base of the building.
Medical professionals rush to her to get her to the hospital before she loses to much blood while a policewoman gets into the ambulance so she can arrest her at the hospital.
When they get to the hospital, Sasha gets cuffed to the hospital bed sill unconscious. She starts waking up and sees a figure standing over her.
Sasha: No...ah?
Policeman 1: Wrong.
Sasha blinks a few times before she registers the cold metal feeling on her wrist.
Sasha: What...?
A second officer uncuffs the cuff attached to the bed, and sit her up to cuff her arms behind her back.
Sasha: H-Hey!
Policeman 2: Sasha Meeker, you are under arrest for the possession of narcotics, the mass murder of 10+ people, burglary, assault of police officers, hell, the list goes on.
They begin dragging her out of the room while she begins to struggle against them.
Sasha: No! NO! STOP! I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!
Policeman 1: Yeah, yeah, that's what they all say.
Sasha: NOAH! NOAH!? WHERE'S NOAH!?
Policeman 2: Oh, your boyfriend? He's down at the precinct.
???: Wrong! He's outside!
Sasha looks at the man at the entrance doors then at the two offices who look pale.
Policeman 1: C-Captain Davis!
Sasha: Davis!? As in, Captain "Pea brain" Davis!
Captain Davis: Long time no see, huh, Meeks?
Sasha: Hi, Pea brain!
Policeman 2: Are- Are we missing something?
Captain Davis: Yes, you are! A few years ago, I arrested her father. He was supposed to get out of jail sometime this year, but due to some newly acquired info given to me by a "Noah Krone", his sentence will be extended to life. All charges against her have been dropped effective immediately. I suppose you two didn't get the notice?
Policeman 1: But- But Captain-
Captain Davis: No. Get her out of those cuffs. NOW!
Policeman number two quickly undoes the cuffs, and Sasha backs away from them with a glare.
Sasha: I told you! Thanks for the save, Pea brain!
Captain Davis: No problem, Meek. But don't thank me, thank Noah. He put his ass on the line. Literally. Spreading personal files to citizens is a crime.
Sasha: So...he could've went to jail?
Captain Davis: Yeah... You've got a good one there, Sash. Besides, you're like a daughter to me. I couldn't just let them lock you up knowing you were innocent.
Sasha: I TOLD YOU BITCHES I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! BUT NO! YOU JUST TO TRY AND BOOK ME!
Captain Davis: Calm down, Sasha. I'll deal with these two back at the precinct. In the meantime, just try and focus on getting home safe, ok?
Sasha: Yeah, yeah.
Captain Davis: Also, tell Noah he owes me big. He'll know what I mean.
Sasha: Sir, yes, sir!
Captain Davis: Shut up before I hit you.
Sasha laughs and runs out of the hospital and into the parking lot. She stops running when she sees Noah on one knee with a bouquet of flowers. A bouquet of red and black roses.
Sasha: What...are you doing?
Noah: Uhh... Going for appeal?
Sasha: What...?
Noah: Uhhhh... For you!
Noah holds out the flowers and Sasha takes them and sees camera like flashes when their hands touch.
Sasha: What the...?
Sasha grabs Noah's hand to help him up, but is stunned by a light with the same force as a flash grande. She staggers back before falling and being caught by Noah.
Noah: Meeker! You ok?
Sasha: Can't see... Hurts... Noah, please...
Noah: What? What do you need?
Sasha: The light! The light's too bright! Make it stop! It hurts!
Noah: What's happening?
Sasha starts excessively scratching at her arms, legs; any exposed skin she can get to. She scratches to harshly that she actually breaks the skin in a few places.
Noah: Meeker, stop it! You're hurting yourself!
Sasha: It burns! It won't come off! Make it stop!
Noah's phone rings and he answers it while trying to restrain Sasha so she'll stop scratching.
Noah: Talk to me.
Caleb: You remember those kids? The ones that recruited the others?
Noah: Y-Yeah. What about 'em?
Caleb: Our little red and spotted friend wants to tell us something.
Noah: Apartment number?
Caleb: 65F.
Noah: I'll be there.
Noah hangs up and runs back to his car with Sasha in his arms. The excessive scratching finally comes to a halt, and Sasha opens her eyes only for Noah to see that they've gone grey. Like she can't see a thing.
Sasha: N-Noah...? W-Where are you? WHO'S CARRYING ME!?
Noah: Calm down, Sash. It's just me.
Sasha: Why can't I see? What happened?
Noah stops and tilts Sasha's head up to see colorless eyes staring in the direction on nothing.
Noah: Your eyes...
Sasha: W-What? What happened to them?
Noah: They're grey...
Sasha: I'M BLIND!?
Noah: I don't know!
Sasha: All I see is a bright while light. Head...hurts... Can't...ugh...
Sasha passes out in Noah's arms breathing heavily and sweating bullets. Noah carries her to his car and lays her down in the back seat. Noah jumps to the front seat of his car, and starts driving to the apartment complex where Marinette and her friends are.
Noah: Don't worry, Meek. You'll be ok... I think...
