《Remembering Us》"Would You Like A Divorce"

My eyes skim the files brought by Jack.

"This is all you could find?"

"She traveling for med school but her father's sudden illness brought her home. She had plans to continue classes here but with the threats she may be taking an indefinite leave from school."

"Thank you." I dismiss my head of security and he nods leaving.

"Cameron," There's a knock on the door to my office before Isaiah walks in. The dark blue scrubs an indication that he's either head to work or just leaving. "I wanted to talk to you."

Just leaving, I decide noting the bags under his eyes.

"Drink?" Not standing, I motion the the shelf of alcohol on the wall.

He shakes his head moving to sit in the chair across from my desk.

"What's that?"

"Information on Audrey Rush."

His eyebrows rise fractionally. "Woah."

"Xander was put on bodyguard duty."

"He accepted."

"Not at first." I set the file to the side, letting my feet come up to rest on top of the desk. "But then he changed his mind, but I promised him I wouldn't discuss it so change the subject."

"I talked to Dr. Percy." The name of my wife's neurologist perks my ears up but Isaiah's frown makes me realize I may not like what he has to say. "Cameron, you know the longer she goes without her memory, the less likely it is for her to get it back right?"

"I know." I nod, I hate thinking about it and I actually try not to, but I know each day that passes is simply the possibility of my wife returning slipping away.

Isaiah set a white card down on my desk. 'Marriage Counseling with Cecelia'. "She great and she help with any type of marriage issue." Isaiah says slowing and my heart starts to pound, marriage counseling? "You know it wasn't sunshine and rainbows for Meghan and I after Carter was born. There was a lot of hurt between the two of us and be both needed to learn to trust each other. She may have some excellent advice if you ever need it." He tells me, bringing his ankle up to rest on the opposite knee.

I've never thought about therapy, I mean Amelia and I's marriage has been perfect, before the accident I would have never imagined needing now.

Now, a week having gone by and her not showing signs of remembering, maybe we will need help in the future.

"Thank you." I mutter, slipping the card into my wallet.

Isaiah nods, pursing his lips. "How has it been going?"

"It's borderline torture." I tell him, meaning it. "I'm feel like I'm walking on eggshells every step I take. I'm terrified I'm going to say something to make her leave or not talk to me. And nothing ever happens, she hardly wants to talk and I'm scared to try to force her.

"Well, with the kids coming back tomorrow maybe it will be more normal."

"I hope."

"Are you okay?" Amelia shakily nods her head.

"Are you sure?" This will either be a great thing or it will be that finally breaks the last thread that holds her to me.

"Yes, they're just children, they need their mother and father."

"They are fine with their Aunt and Uncle until you feel ready, they can be overwhelming." I love each of my children dearly, and they make me better in everything I do, but sometimes they drive me crazy.

"Whether I like it or not I'm a mother." She states harshly and I try to keep a mask. "It's not their fault I don't remember, they shouldn't be punished."

We both look away from each other as the gate at the front of the driveway creaks open.

"Meghan told them you were sick and couldn't remember stuff so don't worry about trying to pretend." We've always been honest with our children and I don't want that changing.

"Okay." Amelia stands, breathing deeply, and wiping her hands down her jeans.

Silently we make our way outside where Xander is helping Mayzie out of her car seat.

"Daddy!" She squeals, running the second her feet hit the pavement.

I scoop her into my arms and hold her tightly. "Hi Princesses." I kiss her cheek, noting the way the rest of the children have gotten out of the limo and are simply staring at Amelia.

Ryder is the first to step forward. "Can I hug you?"

Speechless Amelia nods opening her arms and Ryder doesn't hesitate rushing to his mother.

"Me too." Mayzie screams, practically clawing out of my arms. "Mommy, I want a hug."

Ryder pulls away and I hand Mayzie to her mother. Amelia hold Mayzie to her for a second, closing her eyes and inhaling her scent. I feel utterly helpless as I watch her silently wipe a tear that slipped from the corner of her eyes.

"Mommy," Mayzie pulls away from Amelia, remaining in her arms. "Aunty Melanie said that you were sick and can't renember stuff. Do you know my name?" Mayzie looks seriously and it makes the fact that she didn't say remember correctly slightly humorous.

"Of course I do." Amelia laughs lightly, "you are my sweet Mayzie."

"I knew you renembered." Mayzie shouts wrapping her tiny arms around Amelia's neck.

"Mayzie, mommy remembers your name but she doesn't remember some of the stuff you guys like to do so you'll have to show her." I try to explain it as simply as I can to my four year old.

"Do you renember when we went to the zoo?" Mayzie asks and Amelia shakes her head.

"No."

"Do you renember when we dressed up like princesses?"

Again a shake of the head and a helpless look cast my way.

"Do you-"

"Mayzie," I reach my arms out taking her from Amelia. "You're gonna have to tell mommy about all that stuff, why don't you go color her a picture." I suggest and Mayzie squirms to get down.

"Okay." She skips into the house and Amelia watches as she goes.

"Mommy," Theo wraps his arms around her legs, drawing her attention to him. "I missed you."

"I missed you too." She responds, not missing a beat, although hesitant as she pats his dark curls. She looks up at Ryder and Zoey who are silently studying her.

"It's okay." She smiles softly and they both run to her hugging her. "It's going to okay." She looks at me and I nod at her. We'll work through this.

"Mom." Xander kisses her cheek before moving toward the house. He sends me a 'we'll talk later' look and I nod just before he walks inside.

"It's okay Mom." Zoey hugs Amelia tighter. "You're going to remember us."

Marriage Counseling with Cecelia.

Marriage counseling.

Counseling.

"What's that?" Amelia asks, noticing the white card in my hands.

"Isaiah gave me the number to a marriage counselor." I tell her, handing the card over. "Is it something your interested in?" Could counseling really help?

"Maybe it's something we should consider if I don't start improving anytime soon."

I nod, frowning at the thought.

"Cameron," Shes frowning to when I look at her. "Have you considered what will happen if I don't get my memory back?"

I pause, considering it for the first time.

"Have you considered a divorce?" She asks before I can answer, and I jump to my feet.

"What?" I growl, leaning across my desk and she takes a step back. "That better be a fucking joke."

"I was just-"

"Would you like a divorce?" I ask her, physically shaking.

"Not now but-"

"Not now?" I roar, moving across the office to her. "Next month? After you have my baby? Next y-"

"I don't want a divorce ever," She mumbles looking down and my fury starts to cool down. "I just want to know what you're thinking."

"If you do not remember loving me I plan to make you love me again." I tell her honestly, but I'm praying it doesn't come to that.

"Okay." She answers. "Maybe if there's no improvement by next month we should call her?"

"Okay." I breathe deeply, willing my anger to cool. "Okay."

"Daddy!" Theo runs into my office shattering the tension but I still have one thing left to say.

"I've never thought myself a selfish man Amelia, but I am too selfish to give you a divorce."
