I'm so happy no one questioned the ‘ It will come SpongeBob later’ line.
Because I myself don't know where that came from.
EVEN THOUGH I SAY IT IRL-
I will change it to something normal. ((Someday♡))
P.S: I tried to change my writing style to a more ‘blushy’-cutey one? I don't know ahah
More blush and strange stuff I guess

→ Chapter 8: Flustered string beans? ←
You woke up and went to the bathroom, ready to change the bandages on your hands and arms.
You looked at yourself in the mirror and groaned: you looked like a total zombie. You probably shouldn't have had texted Sugawara until 2 am… and you probably shouldn't have started reading fanfictions after that.
“I regret nothing.” You slightly smiled and undid the bandages, ready to replace them with one of the fresh ones gave to you by Kai. Who automatically proclaimed himself the Ultimate Nurse. He apparently can't stay serious for more than one second.
Completed your task you did your typical morning routine, just with an addition of some pain in your arms. You did your homework too.. and were they hard to do. They themselves weren't that hard, but remember. Bandages. Pain. Ouch.
Time passed and you exited your house, without a care in the world and as always with your earphones firmly plugged in.
Humming to the tone of the Off Vocals of one of the songs you were working on, since you had no ideas for the lyrics and the song couldn't be completed without them, you calmly walked to school.
This, without even boring to say anything to your friend.
(R.I.P Kai. He deserves to burn in the..uh.. in hell)

A massive amount of questions were directed towards you as soon as you stepped in the school ground. Every single one of them regarding your bandages. You were truly happy that people cared for you, and even if the story of the burns was relatively short you avoided the topic, dismissing some conversations with a simple ‘Everything's fine!’ or a small smile.

That didn't work with two certain players though.
You could sense their intense stare on your figure as you slowly walked towards your seat.
“Is something the matter?” You asked them with a brow raised.
“U-uh. We just wo-”
“What did you do to your hands shortie?” Tsukishima bluntly asked, without hesitation, successfully cutting off Yamaguchi.
“Oh, that.” Not reacting to the nickname you answered the question instead of ignoring it. Briefly explaining the situation you ended up with a laughing blonde male and a surprised and worried freckled one.
“T-That's so ridiculous.” Tsukishima muttered, a hand in front of his mouth while he was chuckling.
“And you're as nice as usual..” you karate-chopped his head lightly, earning a small glare from said male.
“I-I'm so sorry this happened to you, L/N-kun..” he said in a low tone.
“It's okay, really. I just hope I'll be able to help the team out even in this condition!~ There isn't much to be worried about, Yam~” you tried to light up the mood and succeeded in so.
“If you say s-so..” He smiled lightly, you returning it.
“So you apparently can cook, midget?” You just nodded to that, replying to his teasing wasn't going to do any good. Actually.. ‘Let's try to truly respond to it.”
“What about it?” you asked, wondering why he brought up that. “Don't tell me.. the almighty Tsukishima Kei is interested in normal person like me?!” you feigned surprise, slightly gasping.
He scoffed, his cheeks an invisible shade of pink. “Tch. You wish.”
“Why, yes. How did you know?” You laughed softly. “My, my. My deepest secret was uncovered! How can i live now that EVERYONE,” you put emphasis on that word knowing that only you and the two boys were in the room,”knows of my crush on the godly Tsukishima-sama!”
You laughed, not noticing the boy's red blush rapidly spreading on his face. He knew you were most probably joking, but those words soon began to print themselves in his head.

Damn, he's going to hate thinking about you and what you said today.
“W-What are you even saying?!” He tried to sound angry, but nearly started to act out of character, “Tch.. I hate you.”
Your eyes widened a little at his reaction. He.. looked cute.
Him.
Tsukishima Kei.
The one that in two days gave you more height-regarding nicknames than you ever received in your life.
Genuinely looked c u t e.
How could someone like him react in that way?
Most importantly, why did you feel like that?
‘W-what?! What's wrong with me? SNAP OUT OF IT M/N!”
“S-sure you d-do..” You stuttered out, trying not to show that you were embarrassed too.. your blazing cheeks could easily be spotted from a distance of at least 300 meters though.
You didn't really mind the situation. Sure, you probably could be humiliating yourself right now, but that reaction? It was precious, pure gold. If that was what you would be getting every time you teased him back on your own, then you would be teasing him often. Even if you would feel weird right after, because of your strange thoughts.
‘They could be the effects of my being a night owl. Must be this.’
Meanwhile Yamaguchi just stood there to witness the conversation. Yes, he felt a little jealous but he thought it was nice seeing Tsukki show some a different side of him once in a while.

The bell saved you both from humiliation (and maybe jumping on each other- *dies* ok, I'm sorry.) and Yamaguchi from witnessing the awkward situation. You two ignored yourselves for the whole lessons though.
The lesson was boring, as usual. English was the subject you had first, and since you knew it way too well you took your sketchbook from nowhere, writing out some phrases that you thought could be the start of the new song. You gripped the pencil softly, noticing that in that way the pain was nearly invisible, you even only now remembered that the parts of your hands and arms that were burned were mostly the back of them.
So.. avoiding to place them on the desk or place too much pressure on them made the pain partly subside.
The whole lesson was spent like this, the next one too, until you reached lunch time and at the end of it Kai, who arrived in class 1 minute late screaming something about marrying a hacker on a space station and about making a cat join a founding association, faced you and threw you a bento.
“What is this for?” You were a little startled by the sudden action.
“To make you forgive me, of course!” He stated as if it was obvious.
“I already forgave you yesterday, didn't I?”
“Mhmh~ If you say so! Well, I've got to go now. The art club has got stuff to do. Like a lot.” He sighed. “And I can't even draw a face without it looking like a distorted circle with two creepy circles in it. Ah, the artist's life is so hard!~” He said, skipping away happily.
‘.. Why?’ Facepalming you took your own bento and the one that was given to you and ran out the class, avoiding the two volleyball players no matter what.
And, while on your run towards the unknown, you hit someone, both of you falling on the ground with your eyes closed.
‘Nothing happy can happen to me, can it?’

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
