《Beautifully Invisible #Wattys2019》Chapter 30

The look of perplexity plasters itself on everyone's face as they look at the person who interrupted the ceremony. King William adjusts his white tuxedo in a nervous manner, as determination settles on his face, he walks up to the alter.

"Greetings, citizens of Scadia! I apologize, but we will have to cut this coronation short."

Gasps are heard from the people as they look to one another, leaving the bride appearing very angry and the groom extremely confused.

"There is, uh, something I have to tell you all,"

"What the heck is he doing?" The Queen groans, making me fall to the ground as she harshly lets me go.

She runs to the altar, putting on her bittersweet smile. She tries to grab King William's arm, but he swiftly moves away from her grasp.

"Ladies and gentlemen, our Queen is not who she says she is! She not only raised your taxes so that she could obtain all your money, but she also killed her best friend... OUR best friends, Emily and Mark, out of jealousy. She took their baby and has been tormenting her from the moment she could walk. Profusely hitting her and screaming disgusting things to her for no good reason. Your beloved queen, my wife, planned an assassination to kill our son today. The only reason she had Fredrick was to one up her best friend. Her heart was never in it, thus it does not make this drastic decision hard on her conscious. Her heart's in one place and all it wants is power."

He then turns to me.

"Lily, you were never allowed to gaze upon Fredrick because Madia knew that the both of you were going to fall in love one day. I had a dream many nights ago of the both of you together, and your father had the same dream as I. Since we knew that the both of you could never marry because he is royal and you are not, we created a document stating that the two of you could marry when the time came. Though Madia never knew about the document until today, she still knew about the dream. THAT is why she would tell you that you are hideous. Not only because she is jealous of you, but because she never wanted you to think of yourself higher than anyone walking the earth."

He turns back toward his wife and menacingly steps closer to her.

"I am tired of your control, Madia. Though I was forced to marry you, I fell in love with you with time. But I was an idiot to do so. You took me for granted, and you used me."

"And Lily, from the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry for being such a door mat. That does not display true leadership, and I am terribly sorry and disappointed in myself."

I bow to him, showing that I forgive him and that I haven't entirely lost respect for him as King.

"As for you, you will get exactly what you deserve!"

He gestures his hand towards the Queen, motioning the guards to arrest her.

"You can't do this to me, William!" Madia screams, trying to run from their grasps.

"I already did." The King retorts.

She gasps at his new found confidence, wiggling from side to side to release herself from the clutches of the royal guards.

"I am the Queen of Scadia. I demand to be let loose immediately!"

"Not anymore," Fredrick chimes in, standing next to his father.

He swiftly gives King William a warm hug, showing a sense of forgiveness. Madia and Lady Adora's faces look utterly shocked as they get dragged away to where they will spend the rest of their days.

The King looks over at me and slowly walks toward me with a smile on his face. He stands right in front of me and reaches out his white gloved hand, delicately taking mine. He takes me to the altar and raises my hand.

"Though this young woman has suffered through a terrible past full of hurt and abuse, she made it out with love and kindness," As the King continues to talk, his words start to fade into a mist. The noises from the people fall away as the world becomes slow as the sun begins to set, displaying a beautiful orange and purple painted sky.

She's gone.

She can't hurt me anymore. Is that even possible?

My only wish since I was a child was that everything would get better.

It's coming true! It's getting better... All I had to do was get up and conquer her, instead of her conquering me!

I then get transferred back to reality as the noises start to come back and the cheering begins to surface. Who are they cheering for? I look down to see the thing that got me out of my daze. Fredrick's hand holding tight to mine.

"Yay Lily!!" Alice and Cara scream from the crowd, pushing through the people as they stumble to the front. What's going on?

Fredrick lowers himself and whispers, "Lily, they're cheering for you!"

"Why are they cheering for me?"

"Because you made it. Some how, some way, you survived the abuse and pain of my mother." He whispers back with a comforting smile.

I look around to see the clapping and jumping, instantly beaming at the sight. Tears start to stream down my face in an unexpected stream, making my heart increase its size by ten fold. I immediately turn to Fredrick and give him the biggest hug I've ever given a person.

I almost lost you.

I think back to what Granny had said about making sure that he doesn't get away. I take her advice and look him straight in the eye.

"I love you,"

His smile becomes more intimate and says "I love you too," He pauses for a moment and utters with a shakiness to his voice,

"SO much"

"Lady Lily, would you like white roses in your bouquet?"

I spin around to the young lady asking me a question for the tenth time today, giving her a warm smile.

"Oh, I love roses! Will they be mixed with the lilies?"

"Of course, ma'am!"

"Perfect! Thank you, Elizabeth!" I exclaim, giving her a wide appreciative smile.

She bows and walks over to her desk in the new castle office. The wedding is in just a week, and with it quickly approaching, there's still so much to be done. After the last wedding, Fredrick and I decided to wait a couple months for ours. It gave us time to get to know each other more. The more time I spend with him, the more I fall in love. He became deeply broken after everything that happened with his mother, but we got through it together through many sleepless nights and warm hugs. He has his flaws, as do I, and I've fallen for every aspect of him.

Though becoming Queen is no easy task by any means of the word, I've been pushing through the obstacles. We're using the money that Queen Madia kept to herself to build a home for families to live in until they can get back on their feet. The home will provide food, bedrooms, bathrooms, and jobs for the people that need it. Fredrick and I are thrilled to start the home, because we get to help the people that not many notice or care about.

I rush into my new room to pick a yellow Rosa gallica flower from a tall crystal vase that is placed on a small wooden table, matching perfectly with the dress I have on. The days are finally getting warmer as spring has just started. I look out my window to find the sun's rays bouncing off the trees and flowers below, displaying the beautiful colors for what they are.

I gaze around my room, almost in shock that this is actually mine. My white wooden bed is in the center of the bright white walls. Fredrick had painted a decorative golden heart above my bed, giving me a warm feeling every time I see it. My white and pink nightstands are placed on either side of my bed, the soft colors matching with the colorful pastel rug. I wanted my room to reflect the garden that I've grown officially in love with. However, I haven't been to it yet. Fredrick wants to show it to me when the time is right, which sends a burst of excitement with the mere thought of it.

As I walk out of my room, I catch myself in my old body mirror. I had it brought back to life with a new mirror in place of the cracked one, and a fresh coat of white paint. As I stare at my reflection, I can't help but wonder if that's actually me. My highlighted hair is fuller and longer, with it ending at my mid back. My skin's glowing, as I'm finally at a healthy weight. My yellow and white colored dress flows elegantly to the floor, expressing every curve of my mid section. Many tell me to wear the more expensive dresses, but I don't take joy in them. Even though things have been changing, I still feel like an ordinary person. There'd be no point in buying a dress that's more expensive than a house if that money could've gone somewhere else where people who need it more could have it. I don't need those luxurious items to feel happy, because I already have Frederick that gives me all the happiness in the world.

I look outside once more to see that the sun is starting to go down, alerting me that I have to get a move on. With a smile on my face and a skip in my step, I walk down the wide hallway, passing by and greeting the maids as they make their rounds. I suddenly stop at something that I hold very close to my heart. The picture that Vicky gave me of my parents in the garden is hanging in a large golden frame, allowing me to see and talk to them everyday.

As far as the Queen and Lady Adora are concerned, they're going to be working in the town home once it's finished. Until then, they will be in jail, hopefully thinking about their actions. But I make sure that they get three meals day and are well taken care of. Even though Madia did what she did, my mother would still want her to be well health wise. The assassin, however, will be in jail for the rest of his days for attempt murder of the Prince, as well as for the murder of many other people. Apparantly, the Queen chose one of the most wanted assassins to date.

"Lady Lily,"

I turn around to the sudden familiar voice, finding Mona on my right side.

"Hello Mona! How are you today?" I greet cheerfully.

"Great, ma'am! And yourself?"

"I'm well, thank you."

Though Mona tormented me for half my life, I decided to leave her in the position she was already in. She apologized on the day of the wedding, expressing how deeply sorry she was. I, of course, accepted her apology, and helped her to better her attitude toward other people.

She alerts me that I still need to visit the kitchen and she gives me the run down of my busy schedule for tomorrow. With a bow, she leaves to go finish her work before she goes home. I walk on over to the kitchen where I find Vicky mixing a bowl of whipped cream, the familiar taste already making its way to my mouth.

"Hi sweetie!"

"Hey Vicky!"

Before I can give her a hug, she stuffs my mouth with the cream, instantly making me want to melt.

"So... How is it?" She asks with anticipation.

"Oh my goodness, Vicky, this is SO good!" I express, instantly wanting more.

"I'm so glad you like it!"

Though I've told her many times that she can retire and that I'll pay for her own home, she refuses. Since that idea fell through, I gave her her own room with an attached bathroom and a large bed, which is much better than what she used to have. It even has a big desk for her journal writing!

There are so many unused rooms in this castle, so we invite our family and friends to visit us. Cara and Alice come over all the time for brunch, or just to hang out around the town. Now that the pay for working here is much better, Cara doesn't have to work as many jobs to provide for her family. As for Alice, she and Granny have been doing much better. I offered to pay for Granny's medical bills as a thank you for always sticking by me, and now she's up and back on her feet again, making clothes for the market. Mincy and Jack come over often as well, always bringing the delectable biscuits that I've always loved.

"Here you go, dear. A special someone wanted me to give this to you," Vicky says with suspicion filling her voice and facial features.

I take the little note and open it to find a red flower petal tucked into the crease as the note reads,

"Dearest Lily,

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to give this to you in person, I had a long meeting today with the King of Carmell.

I have a surprise for you! Meet me in the back of the castle.

Love, Fredrick"

My chest bubbles with excitement, curiosity growing ever more present with every step I take until I make it to the strange destination. There, I find a white rose in a clear glass vase, with my handsome Prince standing next to it. His face lights up at the sight of my entrance, and walks over to me.

"Fredrick, what is this?" I question.

"I wanted to show you something." He answers with a wiggle of his eyebrows, grabbing the rose from the vase.

He places it behind my ear and takes my hand, planting a kiss on the top of it. He leads me to a glass door with iron designs all over it. My heart skips a beat as I can see through the glass, giving Fredrick's hand a squeeze with the excitement coursing through me. He unlocks the door and guides me to the beautiful display of flowers. Apparently, he hung lights all around the garden and even set up a dinner table with red rose petals decorating the white cloth.

"Oh, Fredrick"

My eyes become glossy as I peer at all the flowers, feeling every dream I've had since I was a child rush back to me.

"I was pondering the other day about how close we are to our wedding, and thought that this is the perfect time to bring you here!"

I look at all the different colored lilies in their small field, thinking of my mother with the sight.

I then feel a pair of toned arms embrace my mid section, with a light breath going down my neck. I look over at Fredrick, and a wide smile stretches across my face.

"Do you like it?" He asks, a child-like expression on his face.

I spin around and exclaim, "Fredrick, I love it! You're too much, what did I do to deserve you?"

His forest green eyes become tinted with joy as he utters, "The real question is, what did I do to deserve such an amazing and beautiful queen?"

He takes the yellow flower from my hair and tucks it into the pocket of his dark blue button up shirt as he lowers himself to plant a kiss, immediately sending my heart a rush of emotions. I drape my arms around his neck and pull him deeper into the kiss, making his grip on my waist tighten.

Just a year ago, I would've never thought in a million years that I'd be here, kissing the love of my life with a clear conscious knowing my family is okay. That my friends are in a healthy place, and that I get to help people in a way that I could never dream of.

When people ask me how I feel now, I always tell them that I feel thankful. Thankful that I got through what I went through, and now I get to be in a happier place. Sure, not everything is going to go smoothly, but I know that whatever comes my way, that I'll be able to conquer it with the strength I've acquired from my experiences.

Looking back, I now know that I was never truly invisible. Sure, to some people I was a piece of nothing, but the real people who care about me never saw me that way.

I've now learned to never think that I am completely invisible. Because there will always be that one person that notices. The real question is, will they stand up and do something? As humans, we like to think that someone else will do it. But what we really need to do is stand up for what we believe in. Whether it'd be for someone else, a distant dream, or even for ourselves.
