《Wrap Me in Gold ; Reader X Midas (Fortnite)》Chapter 10 | Know Your Place.

It's been two days since that awkward situation with Midas and how he got his scar. You've talked to him a couple of times but only spoke about two sentences before he excused himself out of the conversation to move on. Thinking about him finding a way to get away from you as soon as possible caused this empty feeling in your chest, possibly from being embarrassed or that feeling of not being wanted around someone. Luckily, the other agents still wanted to be around you, including you in their conversations during their break time which made you feel a little bit better. At least they wanted you around. it was frustrating thinking about how Midas possibly doesn't like you or your presence. Hell, you were too nervous to attend the last few meetings but he didn't seem to make it a big deal as he wouldn't mention it anytime you two encountered. You felt like you ruined the one chance to get closer to him, but you shouldn't stress about that, he's your new boss, maybe he'll warm up to you later.
The mission was a success! Nobody got too injured besides a few cuts and bruises, mostly on Brutus and Maya due to their thirst of action. When they fight, they fight hard. Maya was way stronger than you thought, you'd hate to be the one to fight her, she's a tough cookie that doesn't stop even if she's beaten up and you liked that about her, total badass. Luckily nobody passed out from working two mission in one night, it's not lie you could've helped, you were told to stay at the agency and keep watch. "Keep watch" more like hang out with Bracer in the lounge room as she watched DC movies while you sat on the ground getting a head start on assignments on the coffee table. The team came back at around 4am. You struggled to stay awake by yourself as Bracer made her way back home a couple hours before. You couldn't go back home and rest until you knew they came back in one piece, especially Midas. Long story short it was a waste of time waiting for him. Skye had to pass the lounge room to get to the kitchen where she then saw you exhausted, make up ruined and creased, mascara running from being on all day, just to tell you that all the other agents went into their room right away to finally get rest, including Midas. You didn't even get to see the handsome man. Bummer. Skye didn't say anything but she knew you were waiting for them, her heart felt warm that someone new can be as caring as you. She finally told you go home to get some rest, feeling bad that she was one of the reasons of you staying up so late.
Fast forward to present day;
A new day but nothing new, so far. You arrived at the agency, went to Midas' office and knocked on this door, no response. You knocked three times, still no response. You figured he might be somewhere else so you made your way back down to the the first floor where Bracer was talking on the phone with someone. You walked up to her, patiently waiting for her to finish.

"Yeah... Mhm.. Yeah so just give me a call back once you're ready and I'll put down your information in the meantime! Okay.. Bye-bye." She finished, putting the curly wired phone back on the dispatcher.
She immediately looked up at you with a welcoming smile, "What's up girl?" She asked.
"Have you seen Midas? He's not in his office.." You said furrowing your brows.
"Uhh he should be in there I don't know where else he would be." She looked around the room and saw Meowcles passing by. "Oh, ask Meowcles." She said pointing her right finger at him before she returned back to her work.
You nodded your head as you quickly sped walk towards the cat to catch up before you lost him. He was scrolling on his phone making his way towards the lounge room where I assume the other agents would be since they're not working at the moment.
"Meowcles!" You whispered to get his attention. He turned his head and smiled down at you.
"Hey!" He greeted, his tail moving slightly back and forth.
"Do you know where Midas is? I knocked on his door a few times and he didn't answer and Bracer said he should be in there.. but like, he wasn't.. I don't think." You informed the big buff kitty towering over you.
"Yeah, he should be in his office like Bracer said, I was talking to him in there when I got here an hour ago." He said with a confused look on his face, titling his head. 'What the hell? Is Midas avoiding you even more than before? Is this his way of slowly pushing you out of the agency??' Negative thoughts ran through your head. You must've fucked up so bad trying to discuss a sensitive topic that he doesn't want you around anymore!
"Weird.. Can you come up to his office with me please, I'm scared to check again by myself." You admitted. You didn't like being put into positions like this, especially by yourself. You gave the cat puppy eyes. He simply nodded his head walking around you and towards the stair, leading you as you followed behind. On the way up Meowcles and you kindly greeted henchmen that you two passed by. You both reached Midas' door and Meowcles turned his head to make sure you were still behind him. Meowcles was the one to knock on the door a few times and no surprise, no answer, but this time, you heard a whisper and by the looks of Mewcles reaction looking at you, he heard it too with his feline hearing.
"You heard that to right?" You whisper quietly
"Duhh." He whispered back point at his cat ears. "Is the door locked?" He asked
"I don't know, I didn't check I just knocked." You answered. You heard the cat mumble a quick "Fuck it." before pulling down the door handle, swinging it open.
Behind the door revealed Midas sitting in his chair chuckling with a woman sitting on his desk, just inches away from him. She had her hair up in a high bun letting two strands hang in front of her face. She wore a red asian cultured inspired short dress, she had a red streak in her hair, beautiful red eyes that fit her perfectly, a red beauty mark under her left eye, and the most obvious, her right forearm was robotic indicating that she somehow lost her real arm. With her other normal hand, she was gently grabbing Midas' chin, making him look up at her before she snapped her head at the door that was just busted open. Your chest had that same heavy but empty feeling as the night before, eyes slightly widened. By now the mysterious girl snatched her hand away from Midas' chin then placing his on her crossed legs as she glared at you and Meowcles. 'The fuck is her issue?' You said to yourself. It's only been 7 seconds and you already don't fancy her as she's touching your crush and now giving you and the cat a dirty look. Back at home, you don't let these type of people slide, you make it known you don't like them either. Midas on the other hand cleared his throat and adjusted the way he was sitting.

"Meowcles, y/n, you two should know not to barge into my office like that." He scolded with his emotionless face, annoyance in his eyes.
"M, y/n has been knocking on your door since she got here and asked for my help. Why didn't you answer?" The cat sassed back. Meowcles was the agent that was closest to him, he wasn't afraid of Midas firing or punishing him if he were to give attitude.
Midas looked at you and you looked back at him, not knowing what to say. The way Midas was looking at you made you feel a way you couldn't describe. Do other people feel this way when he looks at them, or is it just me? He had the same emotionless face he would carry everywhere he went, but his eyes had a gently soft look that you could stare at forever. You wish the moment went on longer before the girl next to his spoke.
"Maybe you guys should knock louder." She rudely suggested. Her voice was on the higher pitched side.
"Demi? What the hell??" Meowcles said with the most puzzled look on his face. The girl who you now know as Demi pushed herself off of Midas' desk and walked behind his chair placing both her arms on the backrest of the white seat, slightly bending over so her head was around the same level as Midas who was still looking at you.
"Hey kitty." She smirked at Meowcles. What felt like forever, Midas finally broke eye contact with you, now looking at the cat to your right. Meowcles didn't say anything but everyone knew he hated it when she called him that, she had a nickname for a few of the agents and she knew they did not like it all, it entertained her, knowing that she could make others mad under her powers.
She knew she had pretty privilege, making her get away with almost everything she got herself into. All she cared about was herself. She's thrown her own close friends under the bus in life or death situations when he went on missions. She was her own agent, she didn't work under Midas, she did her own thing and if someone as high up as Midas needed her, she'd be there in a heartbeat.
You couldn't speak, something was stopping you. Maybe it was the fact that Demi is now suddenly a threat to you. The tension in the air was thick but she was the was only one who enjoyed it, knowing she was the cause of it. 'Who is she and why is she all over Midas?' Is she his girlfriend? Wife? Fuck buddy? One night stand? She had to be one of those because no friend would be so close like that.
"What do you guys need?" Midas asked.
"My assignment for today.." You quietly answered, glancing at Demi who narrowed her eyes are you for a quick second before returning them back to normal. She was definitely wondering who you were.
Midas was about to speak before getting interrupted, "Assignments..? For what?" Demi asked. 'Something that doesn't concern you.' you snapped in your head. Seriously, it's not her business so why does she care.
"Demi this is my new assistant y/n." Midas said, he got the idea that she wanted to know who this new girl is. She just stared at you and you stared back.
"Just like how I was your assistant?" She said in an innocent tone, trying to sound cute but she sounded stupid to you and Meowcles. Midas nodded his head as he looked at you and Meowcles. "How cute..." She said in a sarcastic tone. "Know your place, y/n." she spat, trying to get into your head, but it didn't work, you've dealt with bitchier girls than her. It was more than obvious she was trying to start something with you, and it not only entertained her but it also entertained you. If she wants it, she can come get it.
"Demi-" Midas started
"We're gonna leave," Meowcles cut him off, not standing another moment of being the same room at Demi. "we'll be in the lounge room with the others." He finished. He turned at you nodding his head to the side towards the door, signaling for you to exit with him. You walked out before him but quickly turned on your heel to watch him close the door behind you. You saw Midas stare deep into your eyes one more time. Meowcles sighed as he walked down the hall with you.
Now that you and Meowcles were gone, 'what are they gonna do now?! She was obviously all over him but he didn't mind at all, what if they're making out as I think?' You zoned off still following the buff cat in suspenders. All these thoughts making your chest feel weird, but why? It's not like he likes you and you most definitely had no right be feeling this way about your boss.
a/n: its so obvi that this was quickly written and sloppy w the lack of details but I wanted this to be out there as a filler for what'll be coming up next soon.
