《Wrap Me in Gold ; Reader X Midas (Fortnite)》Chapter 9 | Not So Proper

The clock ticks as your eyes skim through the paper in front of you, reading the agents names and their part of the mission. You didn't read too much into it but you summed up what they had to do and it was quite interesting. You matched the names with faces to remember who was who. Their names started to click a bit in your head as you remember reading it at home when you played the game. You finally finished putting the papers in the correct files, or so you hope you did. "I think I did that right.." You whispered under your breath as you put your elbows on table, cracking your knuckles looking at the stack of files in front of you. You let out a sigh and pushed yourself away from the desk in the mini white wheeled chair. Standing up you patted down your skirt so it wouldn't be folding from sitting for so long. Pushing your seat under the desk you grabbed the blue files and made your way out the door, leaving it slightly open behind you.
Walking out, you realized you didn't check what time it was. This made you look for the nearest clock on the wall. You saw the small hand on the 10 and the big hand on the fourth line after 4. '10:24'. He should be in his morning meeting with the agents. You changed your direction from his office to the stairs that lead to the first level. Skipping down the many stairs, you took notice of the first level room, Bracer still working at the front desk on who knows what, and the henchmen walking around minding their business but still staying on guard as they clutch onto their weapon of choice, very scary but you knew they were good and really friendly. They would never dare disrespect anyone in the building as they are frightened as to what could happen to them if they disrespected Midas in any way.
Taking a sharp right into the hallway where the meeting room was, you encountered a henchmen at the door like the first time. You assumed there would always be one on guard outside of the door, it only made sense in case something were to happen. You smiled as you approached him eyeing his suppressed SMG, you recognized it as one of the guns you'd use to shoot down any wood being built by an opponent. Walking up you awkwardly told him "I just needed to..." You pointed at the door with your left hand, as your right was holding your assignment. "Midas.." You finished. He already knew what you come for as he nodded and opened the door for you. "Thanks." You whispered quietly sneaking past him, closing the door shut behind you. Hugging the files with both arms now, you slowly walked over to Midas in his gold chair. You listened to him talking to his agents, not noticing your presence. "and with that, we'll make our way over to the shadow hideout at pleasant park and next to sweaty sands by tomorrow night, when they'll least expect it since we usually attack on early mornings, they won't even see it coming." He spoke. "We're doing both of them in the same night?" Skye questioned.
"Correct, I know it seems like a lot to handle all in one night because we rarely have to do more than one mission under 24 hours, but I know you agents are strong enough to handle a little more work than usual." Midas replied as his elbows propped up on the table, tapping his fingers together slowly, like a villain in the movies. By now you've made your way to stand next to him, he still hadn't acknowledge you but you didn't take to offense knowing that he was too busy to talk. You scanned the faces of everyone as Midas made that announcement. "What if it's too much to handle boss? Yeah we're strong and all, but after one mission, we're usually almost beat and ready to go to bed." Tina argued. "You guys will be fine, but in case of emergency, we'll have backup hiding around Skye's campgrounds that's around the island if we need to call them for help. I also expect you guys to get plenty of rest tonight, be in your beds by 9pm." He ordered looking at each agent sitting in front of him as they nodded back. "You heard the man Peely, turn off that crap you call music at night so I can get proper rest." Tina turned her head at the banana that now has a shocked and offended facial expression. "What the hell dude? My music is not crap and you could've asked me nicer than call me out in front of everyone!" He barked back. Tina shrugged with a grin followed by a few giggles from the other agents.

Midas finally turned his head at you, "Miss y/n, you're finally here." He greeted you "Yup, and I've got their files." You said, placing the folders in a neat stack in front of him. "Excellent, thank you." He said while spreading the files out, seeing whose is who. You gave a quick "mhm!" before putting your hands behind your back, waiting for what will happen next. He began calling out the agents names like roll call and slid each one down the long table for the assigned agent to grab. You kinda felt nice and happy that you were somewhat apart of this mission. The room was filled with the sounds of paper shuffling and little chitter chatters of the agents talking about what their duty is for tomorrows mission.
Fast Forward [11:02am]:
"Alright, everyone understand their part for tomorrow?" Midas question. "Yup" Yes sir!" "Yeah" "Mhm!" were all spoken at the same time. After he gave the agents their files, he let them read what they were going to do, he didn't speak very much as he gave them time to themselves to go over their jobs, instead, he sat going over his own paperwork.
"Good, no meeting later today or tomorrow morning but I want you all here at 9pm sharp tomorrow night. Do I make myself clear?" "Clear as glass, boss." Peely joked, earning an eye roll from Maya. "You're all dismissed." Midas finished, nodding his head once. He got up himself, leaving all of his paperwork in a file on the table, not too far behind all the agents exiting the room. Walking out you scurried to follow behind him and found the courage to speak up. "Uh- did you still want to talk to me?" You quickly asked. You cringed at how eager you probably looked to him, you couldn't even wait until you left the room. He turned his head and stopped in his track, now looking at you. "Of course, thank you for not forgetting." He spoke gently. 'How could I not?' You spoke in your head. "No problem." You smiled looking at the wall behind him. "You okay?" He asked furrowing his eyebrows a little bit. "Yeah, why?" You asked now making eye contact with him. "You don't make a lot of eye contact, like you don't want to look at me.." He said, curious to your nervous actions. "What?? No! I just- I'm- not good with eye contact I guess, there's no problem for me to not look at you, I swear," You choked. He hummed before turning towards the door. "Follow me darling."
He couldn't see your face as his back was now turned at you, walking out. This gave you the opportunity to widen your eyes big like a fish at the 'darling' pet name. 'daRliNg?!' you screamed in your head. 'This mans boutta make me act up' You joked, making yourself giggle, but you held it in. You followed the man with your arms still behind your back. Down the hallway, up the case of stairs, down the next hallway towards his office. You both didn't say a single word on the way but for some reason, it wasn't awkward to your surprise. He scanned his face to open the door, but he stood to the side holding his arm out once the door swung open, instructing you to go in first. You gave a small smile before walking in and making yourself comfortable in the seat in front of his desk. You sat crossing your legs as you usually would, right over left, hands on top of your thigh, locked together.

He made his way walking over to his chair. You were slightly surprised that his chair wasn't like the one in the meeting office, this one was a simple white wheeled chair like yours. You expected it to at least have some gold touch to it but you didn't notice any.
"So," He started. "how are you today?" He asked, placing his hands together on the table. "I'm good, and you?" You answered. "A little slow day today, but nothing too bad." He said gently. You just nodded not knowing what to say. Was it your turn to say something?! You quickly blurted, trying to avoid awkward silence. "So, uh, what did you want to know about me?" "Why don't you start off with the basics?" He recommended. "Wellll.." You dragged out, thinking of where to start. "I'm 18...I'm y/e..Before I got here I was in my last high school year, don't know what my status is now." You chuckled as he nodded his head for you to continue. "I did sports so if I were to start working out, I could easily get back in shape.. I lived with my mom, dad, and my sister, I also had a dog."
"Older or younger sister?" He questioned before you could continue. "Older." You answered. "Interesting." He simply said. "Yeah... uh, what about you" You asked nervously. He sat there for a moment, thinking about what he should say. Midas was never the type to open up about his personal life so what could he possibly tell the girl in front of him? He stared at the ground next to her left side before speaking. "Well, I don't want to get too much into it as it can get tiring and boring," He started "but, you know my name is Midas, hell everyone on the island knows my name is Midas, and I own this agency along with a few other buildings set around the area. uh- I'm not sure if you're familiar with it?" He wondered. "Maybe, you know, from playing the game whenever I had the chance." You nodded. "The shark, the rig, and the yacht. Do any of those ring a bell perhaps?" He asked looking in your eyes. "The rig sounds familiar and I think I've heard a thing or two about a yacht.. I was never an explorer when I'd play aha.." You awkwardly chuckled, what if he thought you were stupid for not knowing such destinations on the map? "Yeah? Well maybe I could take you up there to check out if you haven't already." He suggested. This made you internally freak out! 'Holy shit is he flirting with me? oh my god hell no he's just being nice so that you'd be familiar with places on the island.' Before you could tell him how happy you'd be to take that offer he quickly spoke again.
"I'm the head leader of this team called GHOST. Sound familiar?" He asked trying to get you to understand how important he is. You started to match up the names you'd see on your screen back at home when you'd play the game. "Yeah! It actually does, I've seen the 'Join Ghost' posters hung up on the walls around the map- I mean island!" You said cheerily, proud that you could remember. He chuckled, "Yup, that gold man in the white suit is me. I try to recruit as many as I can to join the agents and I to seek good." "Seek good?" "Yeah, to protect others from those like SHADOW." 'Who the hell is shadow?' you began to think until you started to remember the other poster that would be next to 'Join Ghost'. You remember it being purple and black but you couldn't put your finer on what it had said or the image that was on it. "Shadow? Are they like.. The bad guys??" You asked. "Pretty much. We've had an ongoing rival war with them for sometime now. They want to overthrow the whole island and basically be in huge control of everyone for god knows what reason." He explained shaking his head in disbelief. "Sounds like the government to me.." You mumbled to yourself.
"I can explain more about it to you when our next mission meeting is." He continued, you nodded your head in response. "Anything else about you?" You suggested. "Mmm.. My golden touch, I can control it." He seemed to be in his shell, not really going too in depth about himself, more of what he does or him stating the obvious, no duh he could control it otherwise if he didn't then the whole place would be gold! You were bold enough to ask the next obvious question, "How did you get that scar on your eye? Like, is that why your right eye is white??" You instantly regretted asking that question as his face went more emotionless than it already was, if that was even possible. He just stared at you and you couldn't figure out if he was thinking of a way to answer your question or if he just didn't want to answer at all. You felt your face heat up from embarrassment of asking such a personal question, it was way too soon and rude to ask something like that, you knew better but your urge to getting to know him better got the best of you. 'You dumbass!! You don't just ask a sensitive question like that are you fucking dumb?!' you cursed at yourself. "I- Sorry, I just.. wanted to ask another random question.." You apologized.
He continued to look at you, it made you uncomfortable because you knew you low-key fucked up your conversation with the handsome pale man. You looked down at your foot that you rocked side to side, not knowing what to say next.
"It's fine." He said bluntly. Everyone knows when someone says 'its fine.' it's obviously not. "I think we're done here, I've sent you some emails to work on, I think you should get to them." He ordered with a straight faced smile. You hated when someone made that face, it made you feel like you did something so wrong that they didn't know what other facial expression to make. You yourself made faces like his when you'd get upset or uncomfortable.
Shit.
"Okay." you said quietly. You stood up, flatting your skirt down. As you were about to turn your back towards him you quickly looked down but your eyes moved to take a quick peek at Midas who was now staring at the wall, definitely thinking of something. You walked out the door closing it behind you, so embarrassed and flustered that you didn't even want to say bye.
You left him there, silence now falling upon his office as he sat there, wondering why he would even try to hold a personal conversation like that with a girl he recently met, let alone make him question why he would hire you to work for him. He hopes he doesn't regret it, and deep down, you hope he doesn't either. He shook his head sighing as he went back to work, he expected the conversation to last longer, maybe he was even hoping that it would.
"ohh my godd, you dumb fucking ass." You whispered through gritted teeth, walking through your office door, closing it shut. You plopped your whole body weight onto the white chair, putting your elbows on the table, closing your eyes as you threw your face into your hands sighing. 'You fucking fucked up your chance talking to the hottest man in fortnite. If only you just kept your mouth shut and didn't say that.' you cursed at yourself. You felt beyond embarrassed and you hated it more than ever right now. All you could do right now is work on the emails he had sent and just pray that he could forget the whole thing and continue to talk to you like nothing even happened.
You're a big over-thinker, it's most definitely one of your toxic habits. So toxic that you couldn't even go 10 minutes without thinking about the look on his face. 'What if he thinks I'm a nosy weirdo?' You thought to yourself putting your head in your right hand. You moved your hands back onto the keyboard typing away as that's all you could do right now to keep you occupied.
