The first thing I noticed when I woke up was how beautiful the sunlight looked as it played peekaboo through my curtains that rippled in the breeze. The second thing I noticed was the smile I couldn't wipe off my face as I thought of my night with Haydn, how we shared her Airpods on the train ride back home as we listened to Tame Impala before she walked me to my house and kissed me again, just before sunrise.
Haydn, her name alone made me smile, especially when I thought of her soft, skilled lips and her cool hands against my face, or my hand or my waist. I didn't know how I got so lucky, but I wasn't going to question it.
So apart from the bumpy start, it was an overall amazing night.
However, I wasn't able to reminisce about our night for much longer as my phone rang, calling to me somewhere from the sea of blankets around me as I was forced to come back to reality.
"Hello?" I groaned groggily into the receiver without reading the caller I.D, still half asleep and dreaming of my night, so I wasn't surprised by the reply I got.
"Girl, are you up yet?" Blanca's unmistakable voice asked through the phone as I yawned.
"I am now, why?"
"We're coming to pick you up for lunch in an hour." She informed me, leaving no room for arguing. "You better be ready." She warned as I sat up. "And don't forget my lip-gloss."
"Okay, okay- I'll be ready," I admitted in defeat. "But Blanca I don't have your lip-gloss." I sighed.
"Shit, that means Lola took it." She groaned, Lola, being her 8-year-old sister. "Okay, love you, see you later." She said, screaming at Lola in the background before the call cut- it was one of those times I was grateful to be an only child.
I put my phone on charge as I decided to get up and start my day, not even caring that I was running on 5 hours of sleep as I walked into the bathroom and stripped off my pajamas, Haydn was worth it. With a small smile on my face, I jumped into the shower, scrubbing myself clean as I made sure to wash the smell of smoke and the bar from my hair and skin. However, I knew I couldn't stay in there too long because when Blanca said she'd be outside my door in an hour I knew she meant it literally- she was never late.
I turned on Flo Milli as I got dressed in my light blue cargo pants and a slightly darker spaghetti strap crop top before pairing it with clunky white shoes and a small white bag. Deciding on a soft glam look I paired my outfit with tiny gold hoops and a gold chain before I headed downstairs.
"Morning Papa." I smiled as I saw him in the living room reading the newspaper and I laughed, for someone who ran his own company my papa wasn't tech-savvy at all- he still owned a flip phone.
"There's my beautiful daughter." He grinned after he turned down his paper. "How was your night last night?" He asked and I blushed as memories flooded my mind.

"It was good, how're things coming along with mama's surprise?" I asked, changing the subject as he rubbed his chin with a frustrated sigh.
"I was thinking of maybe making it a three-week holiday in a different country." He thought out loud with a grin and I nodded.
"I like that idea." I smiled. "But which country?" I asked and papa sighed in frustration.
"I don't know, there are so many countries your mother wants to go to, so many places she wants to see." He complained and I shrugged.
"Then find one country that ticks as many of her boxes as possible, she's always wanted to go to South Africa?" I offered, but before he could answer I heard my name being called from the kitchen. "Coming mama," I called out before I walked to her, already knowing what she wanted to talk to me about.
"Morning sweetheart." She greeted as I walked in, taking a seat I took at the breakfast bar with a smile.
"Morning," I replied as I watched her make herself a cup of coffee.
"How was your night?" She smiled slyly, glancing at me from the corner of her eye.
"It was good, I went to a Kali Uchis concert with Haydn." I shrugged, trying not to make it that big of a deal.
"Is Haydn the girl that dropped you off the night you and Wesley broke up?" Mama asked and I nodded, my ears heating up a little in embarrassment. "She seems really nice." She commented. "She's really cute too."
"Mama!" I groaned, my cheeks going red. "I'm not talking to you about this." I blushed as my mom laughed at me.
Thankfully, I was saved by a rapid knocking on the door that belonged to none other than Blanca. "Okay Mama, I'm going to lunch with my friends, I'll see you later." I smiled before I kissed her on the cheek and walked to the front door.
"I love you and be safe." She called out after me.
As soon as I pulled the door open, I wasn't surprised to see Blanca grinning like an idiot as I stepped out and closed the door behind me.
"So? How did it go?" She grinned, not even bothering to greet me and I rolled my eyes as we walked to Logan's car, Roxanne sitting in the front seat.
"So how did what go?" I asked, playing dumb as we hopped into the backseat and immediately Roxanne turned to face us.
"Spill!" Roxanne demanded, Logan, laughing in the driver's seat as we drove out my driveway.
On the way to the restaurant, I filled the girls in on all the details of my date with Haydn, the good, the bad and the ugly. I had just finished explaining how we ended the night with waffles and kisses at sunrise when we pulled into the parking lot of the new restaurant we wanted to try. Surprisingly, they all remained silent as we exited the car, my friends seemingly processing my story as we went.
It was only once we were seated at a table in the beautifully decorated room, with menus from a very helpful waitress, did they finally decide to speak up.

"You mean to tell me you still kissed her after she made out with that Sara bitch?!" Logan frowned and I cringed slightly at her words.
"No, that's not exactly what happened, Sara tried to make out with Haydn, but Haydn pushed her away as soon as she realized what was happening and then immediately came after me," I explained. "So, they didn't actually kiss, and besides, she caught up to me pretty fast anyways so, I believe her."
"Damn Cris, even though you're a bitch for going to see Kali without me, I'm glad you had a good time." Blanca grinned. "You deserve someone like Haydn after that nightmare relationship with Wesley."
"Sorry girl." I apologized, batting my eyelashes at her but she just rolled her eyes and told me all was forgiven.
"So, has she texted you yet?" Logan asked excitedly, bringing our conversation back to focus and I shook my head.
"No, not yet," I said as I nervously bit my lip.
I had been the last one to text her good night (or technically good morning) after she told me she got home safe but other than that little interaction I hadn't heard from her.
"To be honest, I wouldn't text you," Roxanne commented and my heart fell to my stomach.
"What the fuck Roxanne, don't say shit like that!" Blanca yelled but Roxanne barely paid her attention as she shrugged.
"Besides, why not? Cristina's a ten, Haydn would be stupid not to." Logan said coming to my defense and Roxanne rolled her eyes, obviously seeing something we were too dumb to notice.
"It's not about looks, guys. Last night Haydn practically poured out her heart to Cris and laid everything on the table while Cris replied that she 'guessed' she liked her too and then suggested they go get waffles. Not to be a bitch, but if I was Haydn, it would seem like Cris was leading me on- especially since she has a predominant history of dating guys." She clarified and it was like a light bulb suddenly went off in my head.
I was an idiot.
"Oh fuck, she's right." I groaned, leaning my head in my hands.
Haydn had spent the whole night opening up to me, telling me how much she liked me, and I practically said nothing and when I did, I said we should get waffles. I must have been dropped on my head as a child.
"Okay, maybe Roxanne has a point," Logan said with an awkward smile.
"What do I do guys?" I groaned, resting my head in my hands.
"Tell her how you actually feel, duh!" Roxanne laughed at me as I bit my lip in thought.
"Like right now?" I asked in confusion and Logan rapidly shook her head.
"No dude, don't tell her over the phone. How about you text her now, and ask if she wants to meet up later or something and then you tell her?" She clarified and I sighed.
"I think I should call her." I decided as I grabbed my phone and started to get up, but Blanca's exclamation made me freeze.
"EW NO!" She yelled, drawing a little more attention than necessary. "This not the seventeen-hundreds, don't call her just text." She said and I rolled my eyes before I stood up.
"Blanca there were no phones in the seventeen-hundreds." Roxanne explained and Blanca mumbled a "whatever".
"You know if you stopped ditching history class to make out with Cesar in his car then you'd know this," Logan said jokingly and Blanca grinned.
"You're just jealous because when you were learning about old dead white men, I was having hot, nasty-" She started but as soon as I realized where she was headed, I cut her off.
"Okay!" I butted in, turning their attention to me. "I am going to go outside and call Haydn, please can you order me pasta Pomodoro with chicken and goat cheese," I asked them, and Blanca scrunched up her face.
"Goat cheese? Be careful girl, your white side is showing." She playfully warned me, and I rolled my eyes before exiting the restaurant.
I wasted no time as I clicked the call option under her contact information and as the phone rang, I felt my heart beat a little faster in my chest as my anxious thoughts ran wild. What if she didn't answer because she never wanted to see me again? What if she went back to Sara? What if she already lost interest in me? What if-
"Hello?" She asked in her slightly raspy voice and all my insecure thoughts suddenly disappeared. "Cristina?"
"Haydn, hey." I smiled into the phone as my cheeks heated up.
"It's good to hear from you, I'm glad I didn't scare you away after last night."
"Yeah, I don't scare easily," I promised, relieved she even answered the phone. "So, what are you doing right now?" I asked bravely and I heard her sigh.
"Wasting the last brain cells I have on homework, what about you?"
"I'm actually with my friends, we're having lunch at some new restaurant." I rambled before remembering the real reason why I called her. "But I actually wanted to know if you're free later?" I asked, biting my lip in anticipation.
"Yeah, Luis is forcing me to have some family dinner with Laura and her parents but I'm free after seven- do you want me to come over?" She asked and even though I wanted her too, my parents were going to be there which really wouldn't be the romantic setting I was hoping to get.
"Actually, do you mind if we meet somewhere else?" I asked nervously. "I could text you the address later if you're down?"
"Yeah, sure, that sounds cool. I'll let you get back to your friends now, and I guess I'll see you later?" She asked and I smiled.
"Okay, I'll see you later- enjoy the homework and dinner," I replied, and I heard her sigh.
"Now you're just rubbing it in." She muttered and I smiled before we said goodbye and I ended the call.
I walked back to my friends floating on a cloud, and they could obviously tell by the smile on my face, but I didn't care, within a few hours I was going to see Haydn again and this time I was going to make sure I didn't fuck it up.
