《Falling for You ✓ (girlxgirl)》n i n e t e e n

I swallowed the hard lump in my throat, wrapping my arms around myself in an attempt to ward off the biting cold as I marched down the street.
I tried, desperately, to push back the image that had just been seared into my brain as I forced myself to focus on making my way back to the train station so I could just go the fuck home and forget Haydn even existed. God, I should've known better, girls like Haydn never chose girls like me and when it came to tall, skinny, blonde women I would always be overlooked and ignored- it wasn't the first time it happened, and it probably wouldn't be the last. Fuck, I mean I knew karma would get back at me for going to a Kali Uchis concert without Blanca but seeing Haydn kiss another girl was way too much for me to bare.
It hurt so bad. I had gotten my hopes up for a girl who didn't even like me, Haydn hadn't changed at all, she was still the same girl who slept around and didn't care about anyone else's feelings. I knew they said boys were bad news but girls who liked other girls could be downright evil, what other way was there to describe kissing another girl in front of someone you're a supposed to be on a date with?!
I mean I knew we weren't together it was still wrong, it still stung.
No wonder she told me in the restaurant she didn't want this to be our first date- she'd been probably planning to do it from the time Bombshell fucking Barbie walked up to us.
Suddenly, in the middle of climbing up the stairs to station, I was brought out of my internal monologue by a voice.
"CRISTINA!" I heard from behind me and when I glanced back, I was a little surprised to see Haydn running after me but when I remembered why I turned back around and continued climbing.
"You weren't supposed to follow me!" I yelled back loud enough for her to hear as I took the last step onto the platform, immediately trying to get as far as possible from her.
"CRISTINA PLEASE WAIT!" She begged desperately and my feet betrayed me as I stopped in my tracks, taking a deep breath before I turned around to meet her eyes. Haydn's face was flushed red from running and her hair was messy and windswept and even after everything I still thought she was one of the most beautiful girls I'd seen.
The familiar roar of an incoming train brought me back to reality as I coldly watched her walk towards me, my arms folded across my chest to stop her from coming too close.
"What do you want Haydn?" I muttered hurtfully as soon as she was within hearing distance.
However, instead of answering me she suddenly closed the space between us as she crashed her lips against mine.
My words died on my tongue the second our lips touched, my skin set alight by her touch as I leaned into the kiss and her. I was in such a daze I barely registered the whirring train rushing past, too consumed by Haydn's intoxicating taste of cranberry juice and mint to notice our hair flying around us. Her warm body pressed against mine as her hands pulled me closer as she took control of the kiss, gently caressing my face as she placed me under a dizzy and delirious spell, my hands resting on her hips just to keep my balance.

I felt like my feet couldn't touch the ground. Every cell in my body burned as her innocent touch, strong hands and soft lips sent shock waves down my spine, my body temperature rising. However, as soon as her tongue ran across my bottom lip, I was reminded I needed to breathe to survive and had choice but to pull away first
"Woah," I whispered hoarsely as I struggled to catch my breath.
"I'd been waiting to do that for so long." She admitted in a whisper, her close proximity making it hard to think, but with the increased oxygen flow to my brain, reality suddenly came rushing back to me and a frown found its way onto my face.
"You can't just kiss me like that," I murmured angrily as I pushed her away, taking a step back to increase the distance for good measure.
"I-" She started but I wasn't done talking.
"I mean, if you were just going to kiss Sara right in front of me why did you even bother to ask me out?" I challenged and realization dawned on her face before she furiously shook her head.
"No no no, Cristina that's not what happened, I promise!" She pleaded with me to believe her. "I don't know what you saw but I didn't kiss her, I would never kiss her! Sara tried to kiss me, but I pushed her away before she could. As soon as it happened, I immediately came to find you, but you were already running out the door, so I ran after you." She explained, her eyes staring into mine desperately and even though my mind screamed not to I believed her.
"So, you don't want Sara?" I asked, my stomach swirling as her possible rejection but she hurriedly shook her head.
"No, of course not! Sara is just a past fling and that is all she will ever be to me." She said reassuringly, she said and for some reason something in me broke.
"Is that what I am to you too? A fling?" I asked, nervously biting my lip as my anxiety diseased mind ran with the possibilities that she was going to use me as a one-night stand or a hookup. But, instead of giving me a straightforward answer, she just smiled humorously as she shook her head.
I, on the other hand, did not find anything funny.
"Cristina, I thought it was obvious by now." She smiled and I rolled my eyes angrily.
"Well, you know, you're not exactly the easiest person to read- especially with your reputation," I muttered as I looked to the floor with folded arms, ashamed of my words but knowing I had to be honest.
My train was going to arrive at any minute, and I had to get away from Haydn before then because at the rate our conversation was going, I was going to be on it.
"Cristina, look at me." She whispered gently and when I didn't, I felt her step forward before her fingers rested under my chin, lifting my head to meet her golden eyes as she looked at me longingly. "I kissed you because I was terrified you were going to get on a train not knowing how I actually feel about you." She promised as she reached down and grabbed my hands without her eyes leaving mine. "All I wanted tonight was to impress you and show you how much I like you, how serious I am about dating you, but it all went to shit and for that, I am so sorry. The last thing I wanted to do was hurt you, Cristina." She murmured sincerely and seeing the swirling emotions in her eyes, I knew she wasn't lying.

"You're serious?" I asked softly, hopefully, and she nodded.
"More serious than I've ever been." She assured me before she took a deep, shaky breath. "I like you, a lot, and I want to ask on you out, on a proper date without anyone else- just you and me, I promise. Please give me another chance?"
I knew getting involved with Haydn could be dangerous. I knew about her reputation with girls, and about her past, and even though I knew all of it my heart still fluttered at her words. I didn't care about who she was or what she did before me, if she said she'd changed I had to believe her- I owed her the benefit of the doubt. Besides, what I felt for her was too strong to ignore- I owed it to myself to give her a chance.
"Okay," I agreed as she sighed in relief.
"Okay?" She repeated, an infectious smile on her face and I nodded, my smile growing bigger against my will. "So, you're telling me that even after all of that you still want to go out with me?" She smiled as I shrugged.
"I guess I must like you a lot," I whispered, biting my lip as I watched her eyes light up.
"Can I kiss you?" She asked, blushing slightly and I nodded before she leaned in and kissed me gently.
"So, when are you free?" She murmured as she pulled away even though I wished she wouldn't.
"Well, I'm not doing anything now," I offered with a shrug.
"You want to go on our first date now?" She grinned and I nodded.
"Yeah," I replied hesitantly as my eyes went to look at hers and when I saw no hesitation or reluctance, I felt myself relax.
"Okay, so where do we go from here?" She whispered and I smiled as an idea came to mind.
"Well, I saw a place with waffles is still open," I suggested, and she grinned.
"You wanna go get waffles? With me? At one in the morning? As our first date?" She asked in confusion, and I nodded, choosing to ignore her tone.
"I thought you'd never ask." I smiled and she rolled her eyes playfully.
"Okay, Princess Cristina." She said sarcastically and I winked at her.
"I'm glad you already know who's in charge," I joked as she gently shook her head, fighting a smile.
Haydn got my jacket from her backpack and helped me put it on before she grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together. She led me down the stairs and back up the street I had dramatically stormed down and she pulled me into the nearest restaurant that was still serving waffles.
The place was small but cozy, with a silver bell that hung above the door and worn furniture that hadn't changed in a minute. It didn't matter what it looked like to me though, because I was there with Haydn, and we were the only two people on planet earth- not in the restaurant though.
We sat close together in an empty booth at the back and Haydn placed our order with a nice older lady before she turned to me. A soft smile took over her features as she played with my fingers, looking lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" I asked and she shrugged nonchalantly.
"You." She smiled and I immediately felt my cheeks heat up.
"What about me?" I asked as I leaned forward and placed my chin in the hand she wasn't playing with.
"Did you know that I've been crushing on you since last year?" She said softly and I tried to hide my surprise.
"When did you-" I started but she already started answering.
"Junior prom." She grinned. "I wasn't supposed to be there but my friends, the new ones I'd made, forced me to go at the last minute. You wore a short pink dress, even became prom queen and I thought you were the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen." She whispered and my stomach did a somersault.
"Why didn't you talk to me?" I asked and she shrugged before resting her arm behind me.
"I thought you were straight but then when I ran into you at the restaurant and then again on the roof, I took it as a sign." She smiled at me. "I've actually been building up the courage to ask you out for a while now." She whispered as she leaned in slightly.
"Well, I'm glad you did," I murmured before leaning in and kissing her. The electric sensation consumed my body almost immediately, but I pulled away before it could go too far.
It was just our luck too because seconds after we pulled away our waitress, placed our waffles down in front of us.
As we talked and ate, I began to realize that there was a peace I had with Haydn that I'd never had with any other romantic interest of mine. She listened to me and what I had to say and was never once judgmental or rude- I felt like I could talk to her about anything.
"This has to be one of the best dates I've ever been on." I smiled and she frowned as she shook her head.
"Nope! This may be our first date but it's definitely not our official first date." She said seriously and I rolled my eyes.
"Why not?" I asked before taking the last bite of my waffle and pushing the plate away when I was done.
"Because Princess Cristina, you deserve better." She said softly and I didn't care who was watching- I kissed her.
