I was right, the date was a disaster, and it was as though everything went downhill as soon as we sat down.
Wesley was adamant that we sit in the middle of the crowded restaurant so that everyone could see us, and completely ignored me after I asked him if we could sit somewhere else since my anxiety was spiking and being in the middle of the busy setting was enough to trigger me. Actually, his exact words to me were "it can't be that big of a deal, just ignore it", and when those words left his lips, I was heartbroken because I finally realized how little he cared about me as my mom's words kept replaying in my mind.
"Good evening, my name is Julia, and I will be your waitress tonight. Can I start you guys off with a drink?" A woman dressed in the all-black uniform asked us kindly, she was very beautiful with bright green eyes, pink lips and blond hair pulled into a neat bun.
"Could I please have-" I started when Wesley cut me off.
"We'll have two glasses of water and a bottle of red wine for the table." He stated, not even looking at Julia, before rudely dismissing her. The staff knew the Greyson family very very well, and they knew not to question or keep anything from them, including distributing alcohol to minors.
"Wesley you can't drink, you're driving," I quietly reminded him, but he just rolled his eyes as he picked up his phone, completely brushing me off.
"You're not my mother Cris, I'll be fine." He sighed and I took a deep breathe. "Now stop looking like someone peed in your cornflakes and smile." He said as he lifted his phone and snapped selfie of us. We both had fake smiles plastered on our faces as we tried to look as in love as possible while the background of the beautiful the restaurant added to the image, he was trying to portray to his 5K followers.
But that beautiful background that was slowly starting to grow louder as the seconds ticked by, my anxiety growing worse with it- it made my skin itchy.
"Here are your drinks." Julia smiled as she placed glasses of ice water on our table along with the bottle of wine and two wine glasses. "Have you guys decided on what you would like to eat yet or would you like a few more minutes?" She asked and yet again Wesley answered for the both of us, this time ordering us steak and eggs, even though I didn't eat red meat.
"Wesley, I don't eat-" I started, trying to correct him but his head shot up before I could even finish my sentence.
"Don't you think I played better than Daniel during last week's football game?" He interrupted me again, finally looking up from his phone and I frowned, I barely remembered the football games between cheering, the loud noises, and keeping my anxiety at bay.
"Sure?" I shrugged and he huffed as he poured himself a glass of wine.

"Well, you should tell that to Coach because he decided to make Daniel captain even though I play better, and I'm way better looking." He complained before gulping down some of his wine and continuing with his monologue of how he was deserving of being captain.
It was during this time that I started to realize how often Wesley talked over me or just flat-out ignored what I had to say, and it was there, in the middle of the restaurant that the realization that Wesley wasn't a good guy, and he definitely didn't deserve me.
Maybe my parents had a point. Wesley didn't treat me right, he never paid attention to anything I said, everything had to be his way, on his terms, and he really didn't seem to care about me past the way I made him look. How the fuck could I have ever been this blind?! Wesley was just a piece of shit- not only it to me but to everyone else as well. I couldn't believe I let everyone and their opinions on how hot and popular he was, convince me that he was actually a decent human being. Holy shit I must've been delirious, he wasn't even good in bed to make up for his shitty-ness.
"Cristina, are you even listening to me?!" Wesley snapped, bringing me back to the present and as his face came into focus, I simply couldn't stand seeing him anymore.
"I'm sorry, I have to go to the bathroom," I muttered in a daze as I shot up and grabbed my bag before he could say anything, walking off in the direction I was hoping led to the bathroom- I just had to get out of there.
But with my mind running a million miles a minute, my anxious galloping heart and my pure desperation to get as far away from Wesley as possible I wasn't surprised when I ran straight into a stranger, not paying attention to my surroundings.
"Aye, watch it!" The waitress snapped as we ricocheted off one another and it took me a second to steady myself before I could look at her.
"Sorry, I was just looking for the bathro-" I started but as soon as my eyes met hers my words died on my tongue.
She stood at my 3-inch-heel height and was dressed in the same all-black outfit as the rest of the waiters and waitresses, but it somehow looked better on her. She had her long black hair pulled back into a slick ponytail that highlighted her high cheekbones, straight nose and especially her beautiful honey-colored eyes. Her soft, light brown skin was clear as a subtle blush appeared just under her skin, and it wasn't until I saw her full, defined lips that I realized that she was talking to me. "Excuse me?" I mumbled as I looked up to meet her eyes.
"I said it's around the corner." She said, her voice smooth and alluring and as she gestured in the direction, I could feel my cheeks heat up.
"Oh, um, thanks." I smiled awkwardly, completely embarrassed that she caught me checking her out, but before I could head in the direction, she stopped me.

"Hey, you go to Westwood High, right? You're a senior?" She asked and I nodded, shocked that she even recognized me.
"Yeah, I am, how did you know?" I asked frowning slightly, trying not to let my emotions show in my voice.
"I've seen you around," She shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm Haydn, Haydn Moreno." Her name suited her.
"Oh, I'm Cristina Vasiliev, Cris for short," I replied with a small smile and immediately cringed internally, I had never been so un-smooth before.
"Yeah, I know." She smirked and my heart practically skipped a beat. "I'll see you around Cristina Vasiliev." She smiled before she walked away, back to the kitchen. As I watched her disappear, I took a deep breath, feeling much calmer than when I left Wesley, and instead of continuing to the bathroom, I walked back to him.
"Jesus took you long enough, our food's already here." He huffed and as our waitress placed our food in front of us, I noticed him pouring himself another glass. "I'm starving, this steak better be fucking del-"
"I'm breaking up with you." I interrupted him, for a change, and listened as the waitress awkwardly cleared her throat before she disappeared while Wesley turned a little red.
"Okay very funny Cris, now eat your food." He said, his anger seeping into his words as he started on his third glass of wine, and I knew there was no way in hell I would get in a car with him.
"I'm serious Wesley. It's over between us," I said quietly, trying not to make too much of a scene but it was useless as Wesley chose that exact moment to react.
"No, no, NO!" He said as he harshly slammed the table on his last "no", causing the whole restaurant to turn their heads in our direction. "You do not just get to decide that." He seethed before going back to eating his stupid fucking steak and I had to take a deep breath and gather all the strength in me.
"It's not your decision so I'm just going to go," I whispered as I tried to grab my bag, but I was stopped by Wesley's death grip on my forearm.
"So, you're just going to leave after I already ordered this expensive fucking food and a bottle of wine, you're such an ungrateful bitch." He snapped and I rolled my eyes.
"I don't even eat red meat Wesley, I haven't eaten red meat in three years- you should've known this by now," I whispered back harshly and pulled my arm from his grip.
Hindsight that move was a mistake, a big mistake because my actions seemed to set him off. I watched as his face turned an angry shade of red as his jaw remained clenched before he reached in his wallet and he slammed the money for the bill on the table, glaring at me as I stood up. I couldn't walk away fast enough before he walked over to me and grabbed my upper arm, holding me close as he dragged us outside, questioning glances thrown our way as I struggled to process what was going on.
Thankfully, I quickly came to my senses, but I still walked with him to not cause a bigger scene, quietly fuming until we got outside where I ripped my arm out of his hand before taking a few steps away from him. I could tell he was shocked at my outburst, but I was just too sick and tired of his shit to even care. I couldn't believe what he just did to me in front of all those people, it was manipulative and humiliating.
"Don't you dare fucking touch me!" I spat and he snorted as he handed his ticket to the valet, who, reading the atmosphere, quickly disappeared to find the car.
"Cris, I don't know what the fuck you're doing but you better come to your senses because no one breaks up with me!" He yelled and I sighed, I really didn't want to be having this fight outside the restaurant but at that point, I felt like I had no other choice.
"Wesley, you can't tell me you actually thought we'd work out?!" I seethed angrily. "You don't even know I don't eat red meat; you don't listen to me or pay attention to me, and I've had enough now, I'm not happy with you and I don't think I ever was. I deserve to be loved and happy and safe with the person I'm with."
"You're fucking kidding me, Cris! This isn't some fucking fairytale! Only a girl like you would break up with me when I've done nothing wrong." He yelled as the valet pulled up with his car. "We can talk about this later, we're going home." He demanded angrily as he ripped the passenger door open for me, but I took a step back.
"I'm not getting in that car with you Wesley, you've been drinking," I stated as I crossed my arms, and he grew red.
"You know what? Fuck you, Cris, you're a high maintenance bitch who sucks at blowing- I can't believe I wasted my time on you. Hope you don't make it home!" He sneered angrily as he stormed around his car and climbed into the driver's seat before skidding away, leaving me standing alone in the cold.
Being petty and responsible I called the police about his drinking and driving as soon as he turned the corner and tore out of the parking lot, and I only hoped they'd find him.
However, I wasn't too surprised when relief was the strongest emotion I felt as I watched him drive off but as soon as he disappeared into the darkness the admin and stress of how I was to getting home started to sink in. With a sigh, I rolled my shoulders back and made my way to a quiet bench nearby to sit down and get my thoughts in order.
Damn, that's not how I saw the night going.
