♠︎♤Chapter 48♤♠︎
{Devil eyes}
●Emma's Point of view●
Avoiding Kevin was next to impossible. Believe me, I have attempted to put some distance between him and me, but he keeps on teasing me.
This guy seriously needs to stop it... It's like he can't bother his brother, so he's bothering me. Is he really that bored with his life?
Right now, he's sitting right next to me. These last few days, I have realized a pattern of his... He always lets me sit first before he takes his seat. So he can sit right next to me.
Right now, Leo was cooking something in the kitchen.
Ms. Nancy hasn't arrived yet from wherever she took off to. And it was getting pretty dark outside.
Oddly, she has been less and less at home.
The smell of spices and seasonings hung thickly in the air, making my stomach fill with excitement. My tastebuds were aching to taste what Leo was making that smell so divine.
This is probably the best part of the day for me: being home and getting fed delicious food, and then going upstairs and playing with Aphrodite and Ares, not worrying about anything that is happening at school.
It was hard to not feel uneasy, worrying that someone will find out that that girl in that simple photo is me. The judgment that will fall on me will be beyond my control.
The piles of homework that were scattered on the wooden table weren't funny at all. Half of the stuff printed on these papers was hard to comprehend.
My poor brain is aching at how much it attempts to process the information that is plastered on these papers.
Having someone peering over my shoulder doesn't help ease my nerves, either. Those enticing gray eyes stared at my paper as if he couldn't believe what was written on it.
I know I'm wrong on some of the questions, but he could at least let me know which ones are wrong, instead of just gazing at them with disappointment.

And as if he had just read my thoughts, his finger pointed to one of the answers on my paper.
"That's wrong." is all he let out, as his eyes glided up from the page to me.
"How so?" My voice came out lower than a whisper as my eyes didn't stray away from his dark ones.
"Well, first of all, when Abraham Lincoln was murdered, He got shot in the back of his head just like JFK. The only difference between those two is that one got shot in the theater and the other one in a car next to his wife. " My body stiffened when his large palm settled on my right thigh, his thumb drawing little patterns on my skin.
Come on, write it down. Toy. " His voice drops a few octaves lower, and my heart pulses faster as I swallow hard.
His minty breath fanned the side of my neck when he let those words out, my body shivering at the contact of it. A wave of panic engulfs me as his lips spread into a cynical smile.
He was at it again. When he leaned more towards me, his sharp but inviting aroma wafted through the air.
His hand gripped my thigh tighter when he noticed I wasn't writing it down.
"Come on, Toy. Don't make me impatient. " How does his voice keep getting that deep? My abdomen at this point is twisting and turning, as my lung slowly compresses into a small little ball.
He leans in as the firmness of his grip tightens on my bare flesh, my bottom lips get tucked between my teeth again, as a frown slowly emerges on my face.
Our gaze locked in place, and my hands began to slightly tremble under the tension that was absorbing me into its density.
The cynical, tight-lipped smile stretched out, revealing his straight white teeth, that evil smirk that coaxed me to focus on the page that was on the table and not on the large warm hand that was gripping my thigh tightly.

My eyes swerved to the page as my cheeks heated up. The more his hand made my nerves sting in a pleasurable way.
Gosh, I'm sick in the head for liking it.
My trembling hand managed to take the pencil and erase the wrong answer. It momentarily stopped when his hand inched closer to my sensitive part.
My thighs tightened together, stopping his progression, and my eyes steered back to his, which were now fixated on my bare thighs.
The soft white beaming glow, the was emitting from the fluorescent light above us made him seem so innocent in that white sweater that hugged his enormous built frame perfectly.
Yet, his dark eyes betrayed his true intentions that were lingering in them with a bright, sinful glee.
And when his sinful glee gradually glided up to mine, my breath got stuck in my throat, as I swallowed thickly this time. Not knowing how to respond to that look.
"Focus on the paper. We don't want Leon noticing we're having fun without him, right?" He mumbled under his breath as he squeezed my thigh lightly.
"Please stop, " I wanted to slap myself for sounding so small and vulnerable… yet needy. The cynical smile widens on his face, making me squirm in my seat.
Why is it that whenever he smiles like that, my heart decides to act all crazy?
"Why?... when you feel so good. " He hums. His words ignited this warmth between my legs as my cheeks warmed. Realizing the more he talked, the more my body was getting turned on.
A shattering sound echoes around the room, making both of us snap our gaze towards the kitchen. Leo disappears behind the large island that divides the kitchen and the dining room.
Kevin squeezed one more time before he got up from his seat and navigated his way towards Leo.
"What did you break now?"
"Nothing important, just check the food for me until I pick this up." The rattling of glass being swiped and being picked up and thrown in the bin is heightened when everyone stays silent for a few minutes.
"What diverted your attention? Were you daydreaming again? " Kevin grinned at his brother as he stirred the food with the big wooden spoon.
Leo doesn't respond at all. All he does is continue picking up the little mess with a small frown adorning his features.
It's like his mind was somewhere else. When he finishes picking up the shattered glass, he washes his hands and dries them.
Eyeing them quietly was more interesting than reading my paper... Kevin kept glancing at his brother, who was right now taking out the plates with a frown on his face.
He seemed to be a bit upset. Why? He made himself towards me with plates in his hands. I begin picking up my homework and neatly piling it next to me.
For some reason, I feel eyes on me. My eyes momentarily flickered up and they connected with Leo. My cheeks instantly warmed as my heart beated out of control... The look he was giving me made me squirm in my seat.
I'm never going to get used to people staring at me like that.
Did he see what Kevin was doing to me under the table? Is that why he's looking at me like that with so much curiosity yet hurt?
"Sit down," he ordered harshly as he kept our eyes in contact, making me instantly sit back down in my seat when I tried to help him out with the plates.
I began to pick up the papers off the table and stuffed them in my backpack.
His soft frown never left his face.
Seeing him like this makes me uneasy. I don't like seeing him with a frown.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing," he said coldly without looking at me.
For some reason, I felt guilty about something, but I can't pinpoint my finger on what made me feel this way in the first place.

RELINQUISH
Sometimes I wonder why the world isn't decorated with something as cool as magic... Why can't we manipulate the laws of the world? Why does the story about God sound too fake to be believed? Why the hope for this world to be saved from the bottom of everyone's heart can never be fulfilled... Then I landed on each conclusion from each of those questions... That humans are the most cunning, meanest and stupidest creatures who are most desperately expected to not have any power including magic itself. That it is not God that we should believe in, because they themselves do not believe in how disgusting human nature really is. That everyone's hope is not for the world to be saved, but for the world to be destroyed in order to save their own selves. That the world from the beginning, was not meant to be saved... (I frequently revise and update the use of sentences in the previous chapters without disturbing the original storyline. so sometimes it takes me a little longer to publish a new chapter.) I have the same novel posted on another website (Webnovel.com , creativenovels.com) with the same name (RELINQUISH)
