-Chapter 9 part 6--Little evil giggle-

-

The two brothers didn't come home last night. I don't know if I should be relieved or not that they are not here.

My father seemed more worried about the boys than Ms. Nancy about her kids' whereabouts.

Right, now I was seated right next to my father eating breakfast. His wife was next to him, of course.

Yesterday, my father came into my bedroom late at night to greet me. He then began to bombard me with questions about how my day was with the twin guys. And how was my appointment with the therapist? or psychiatrist. Honestly, I don't know what she is anymore.

Yet, throughout the whole conversation between us, my father never really mentioned anything to do with the little catastrophe between me and Kevin.

It's like he doesn't even know about it or he just doesn't care to talk about it at all.

Probably not to make me feel uncomfortable or Perhaps Ms. Nancy hadn't told my father yet and wasn't going to anytime soon. Until she feels ready and can perhaps make it sound not as bad as it seems, Even so, it's pretty bad any way you look at it.

Me being me I couldn't really work up the courage to tell him about that thing with Kevin. I could literally imagine how Ms. Nancy is probably struggling to even tell my dad that.

Who wouldn't be...?

I know, I would... If I was in her situation right now, I would be hesitant to even look him in the eyes.

But one thing is for sure, I wouldn't be able to answer him clearly when the time comes when Ms. Nancy decides to tell him one day.

And when the time comes, I simply hope from the bottom of my heart that he'll go easy on me.

"Those boys... Where have they gone, too?

They could have at least left a message of where they are at or if they are, okay, or something." My father gazes down at his watch and then back up at Ms. Nancy, who was calmly eating her breakfast without a care in the world.

It was like seeing two completely different individuals sitting at the same table who were completely the polar opposites of each other.

"You know... how those boys are, honey. They are probably messing around. They will be back by noon. I'm sure of it.

So don't worry and eat up. Okay? " Ms. Nancy says as she softly smiles at my father who was still with a worried expression on his face."

I hope so... Those rascals, sigh. One short call wouldn't hurt them to make it to us. " He mumbles under his breath, as he looks at his plate of food in defeat.

It was so odd to see my father care more about them than their own mother. Their mother didn't seem like she even cared about them at all.

"You never change, honey. Always worrying too much for nothing. " Ms. Nancy's small smile widens when she sees him still worried about the twins. She scooted her seat over to him and gave him a light kiss on the cheek.

My father softly smiles as he takes a small bit of his pancake. He turns his complete attention towards me, making me fidget in my own seat at his sudden attention towards me.

For me, it's just a little unusual when people pay attention to me. It makes me feel really nervous inside, as I start questioning every little movement I make at this precise moment... To not make a mistake, "Would you also leave your old man to go partying, too? For days on end without notifying me. "

I shake my head "NO" as I look down, not knowing what to say next. I hear Ms. Nancy chuckle at my dad's playful tone towards me.

"You are something else, you know that? Don't scare the poor girl now. " I peeked up from my half-eaten food when I heard Ms. Nancy say that, as she lightly hit my father in the shoulder playfully.

My father's deep chuckle bounced throughout the whole dinner, as Ms. Nancy playfully rolled her eyes at him.

"What...? I'm just asking. I don't want my little girl to think that this old man doesn't want any of her attention. "

"You are not even that old; you're in your mid-forties." She pours him more juice in his half-filled glass cup as her smile widens at his words.

"But... I— Okay, you got me. But that doesn't mean I don't want attention. " When I hear my father's defeated words, I feel my lips twitching up a little, amused by their funny bickering.

I didn't dare interrupt them. Their bickering went on for a while longer as I sat there watching it all happen and silently enjoying the odd show.

My father changes the channel again. Bored with everything on TV.

It was just me and my dad. It was late at night and the guys hadn't come back home yet or even called my father to let him know where they were at all.

He even called the school, and still couldn't find them.

My father was about to call the authorities to file two missing person reports when Ms. Nancy told him to calm down and wait at least two more days.

She even explained to him that it wasn't their first time disappearing for such a long time, anyway.

After that, Ms. Nancy went up to her room to rest, while my father and I stayed downstairs, looking for a movie to entertain our boredom.

But that was not working out as we'd planned it to go. So my father stood up from the couch, and he proceeded to turn himself around towards me as he let out, "Don't Move."

It's silly that he thinks I could move by myself, without his help. He's the one who sat me here in the first place.

Before he disappears from the living room, he passes me the bowl of popcorn as he proceeds to let out, "I have something better than any movie that was ever made." He quickly runs up the stairs and disappears for a while.

I stay there quietly, eating the soft popcorn, until my father decides to show up with a brown, semi-heavy looking box in hand.

He places the small brown box on the table in front of me, as he doesn't waste time in opening it up.

My father looked excited, like a kid in a candy shop looking through the piles of CDs inside the small brown box.

"Are those old movies?" I couldn't help but ask him as I sat there quietly eating my soft popcorn.

"No, much better than that, sweetheart." He takes out a CD from its case and pops it inside the DVD player, as he changes the mode to DVD on the flat screen TV.

Then he puts the box on the floor and makes his way towards me and sits right next to me as he hits play on the TV.

My eyes almost come out of my eye sockets when I see a young, kid-sized Kevin being chased down by an unhappy, glaring Leo. Leo pushed him lightly from behind, making Kevin fall forward onto the muddy ground in a fit of giggles.

Kevin instead of crying out loud in pain. He started laughing much louder and much more hysterical than before, as he used one of his little hands to hold his stomach while with the other one he used it to point at a furious looking Leo.

His cute little evil giggle made me slightly smile. That little evil glint in his gray eyes intensified more when Leo looked ready to jump on him and beat the living soul out of his twin brother.

It's like Kevin succeeded in pissing his twin brother off so much because, in his eyes, it shows how amused he was seeing his brother so pissed off with him.

On the flip side, Leo had a small frown on his face as he looked at whoever was taping the video.

""I hear Ms. Nancy's harsh tone as she emerges into the video frame.

It's like she never changed. The only difference between her now and then was that her hair was shorter and dyed a deep red, making her eyes color pop more.

Both boys visibly tensed up, Kevin quickly got up from the ground and stood behind Leo. His playfulness is nowhere to be found anymore.

Leo stands up straighter than before, as the frown on his face instantly disappears in a blink of an eye. A blank look took over his small features, as he tried not to make a single sound, almost afraid to draw any attention to him or his brother.

"Calm down, Love. Let the kids be kids. " In the video, I hear my father's gentle voice.

"But their new white clothes, I just bought it yesterday. "She looks at both of them with a scolding look. The same look she gave Kevin when she slapped the living soul out of him in front of me yesterday.

"Don't worry, I'll buy them new ones. Let the kids have fun. " Yet, both Kevin and Leo stood there holding hand in hand, looking between their mother and my father.

Debating if they should continue playing or not.

Leo wasn't showing any emotion on his face, while Kevin simply looked down with furrowed eyebrows as he began to bite on his left sleeve in nervousness.

As he anxiously looks up and then back down, as if he was trying to avoid his mother's hard gaze, It was so odd to see Kevin not be so emotionless and detached in this situation.

Then the tape abruptly cuts off. Leaving me guessing what happened next... My curiosity skyrocketed and I looked directly at the brown box, ready to ask my father to put another one in.

Wow. Ms.Nancy was really strict with the boys, back then. Shit... She is probably worse now. And she's not letting it be shown too much... Perhaps my father doesn't know about that either.
