《parties // billie eilish》Chapter 92: New House, New Life

''Looks like we are here!'' Charles exlaims as we pull up onto an unfamiliar driveway. I give him a weird look, weren't we supposed to live in my old house?

''I know that this isn't the old house you used to live in, but we thought that it would be traumatic for you to live there after... after everything,'' he explains, opening the car door before exiting it. I take a look at the house from the outside. It looks really nice with the black roof and the white wooden walls. There is a big window that stretches from the floor to the roof, giving me a glance of the living room that has two blasck couches and a TV in it. I chuckle quietly when I realise the difference between this house and the one that Charles and Christina lived in before.

''What do you think? Wanna look inside?'' Charles asks from behind me, making me smile before nodding.

''Absolutely,'' I answer as we start walking to the door. Charles wraps his hand around the handle, opening up the door to the new home. I gasp as I realise how beautiful it is. The walls are bright and the wooden floor is slightly darker. Although it's pretty empty inside, it looks great. I enter the living room and discover a dark green couch with a TV in front of it on the floor. There's a single plant on the ground, making it look a bit weird. As I step into the kitchen, I let my hand trace the walls as I take a look at the furniture. The theme seems to be similar to Charles and Christina's old house, which makes me smile slightly. It probably makes them feel safe here. It's so hard to realise that they moved here for me. I have no idea how to make it up to them.

''It looks amazing,'' I tell Charles, turning around so that I'm facing him. He approaches me and puts a hand on my shoulder.

''I agree. I hope that you will feel at home here,'' he says with a smile. ''I've been thinking.''

I tense a bit from his words. I hate those words. It feels like that's something that parents say when you are going to ruin someones life. I turn my head so that I can look at him, trying to read his face. As I do, I realise once again how similar him and I look. I've said that I look like my mom a lot, but when I see Charles, I realise that he looks like an old man-version of me. That sounds weird. Charles interrupts my thinking:

''You have been going through a lot, and I think it's time for you to go and see someone.''

''Like a doctor?'' I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. He lets out a chuckle.

''No, I meant like a therapist,'' he says, creating a knot in my stomach. ''You have gone through so much, Ember. It's too much for a teenager to go through without talking to a professional.''

No. No way. I've talked to therapists before and it hasn't gone well. They keep telling the same thing, and it annoys me.

''Yeah, I will think about that,'' I say, faking a smile. Charles squeezes my shoulder lightly before exiting the room. He stops in the hallway, pointing at the stairs that I discovered just now.

''There are two bedrooms up there. You can take a look at them and choose which one you like more,'' he says before giving me a smile and walking out of the room. I smile to myself before walking up the stairs. I think about what he said. Should I talk to someone? In one way, it feels scary to just tell someone all my problems because it gives them so much power over me, but it's a therapist's job, right?

As I enter one of the bedrooms, I immediately feel like home. The sun is shining through the big window, making the room look yellow. It smells so fresh, almost like flowers or a perfume. I approach the bed and sit down. It's so soft. This is my home. This is where I belong.

I lay down and unlock my phone, opening my conversaton with Travis. I decide not to look at our older conversations, realising that it would be too emotional for me. Instead, I just ask him if he's alright. Just after hitting send, Billie's name pops up at the screen as she's facetiming me.

"Hey," she says, her bright smile lighting up the screen.

"Hey," I mumble with a chuckle, just thinking about how fucking cute she is.

"Is everything okay? With the new house and stuff."

"Yeah, I really like it. It's not messy like their old house," I explain, making her laugh.

"I'm glad."

I decide not to tell her about the encounter with Travis, figuring that she would be mad and try to kill him.

"Are you alright?" Billie asks, probably realising that I'm thinking about something.

"Yeah!" I say. "I'm fine. How are you?"

"I'm good," she mumbles, not sounding convincing.

"Hey, did something happen?" I ask.

"Nah, I just really miss you," she says, making me blush slightly.

"I'm right here," I mumble, laying down on my side.

"I know. I just don't know for how long," she says immediately.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Nothing, I'm just tired," she says, faking a yawn.

"Billie, talk to me. What's going on?"

"Can I come over?"
