《parties // billie eilish》Chapter 41: We're flying, man

The alarm rings, making me sit up in the bed, rubbing my eyes. I grab my phone and realise that it's four am. How can I even be awake? After yawning, I hestitantly stand up, walking over to my bag to get some clothes. I put some black sweatpants on before pulling a white T-shirt over my head. My gaze moves all over the bag and I realise that I've put my hoodies on the bottom of my suitcase so I won't reach them now. I guess that I have to wear this until I can get my own out of my bag. After running a hand through my hair, I walk down the stairs and I see tat Julia, Travis and Kevin sit around the table, drinking coffee. They look like their about to fall asleep at any second.
''Guys, you didn't have to get up this early'', I say, feeling bad for them.
''Yes, we want to say goodbye to you'', Kevin explains with a smile. ''I'll drive you to the airport.''
''I can take an uber'', I say.
''It's fine, Ems'', he says, standing up. ''Are you ready to leave?''
''Yeah'', I finally answer after thinking for a while.
''Awesome'', he says before grabbing his car keys from the counter. We all walk out through the door, pushing the button to the elevator while Kevin locks the door. We walk out, entering Kevin's car and I feel too tired to even think about what I'm doing right now. Were are we even going? How can I forget that?
After a while, we reach the airport and I exit the car, the others following me into the big building. There are so many people here and it already makes me feel a bit sweaty, but I push the thoughts away, focusing about what I need to do now. I need to check in and do all that shit and then find Billie. She's probably already waiting for the flight, so I have to hurry.
Later
''I will miss you so much, Julia'', I mumble against her shoulder, really meaning the words. It's going to be hard to be away from everyone, but Julia and I have been so close lately. We can literally talk about everything and I haven't had a friend like that for a long time. I pull away, keeping my hands on her shoulders and try to smile, but to be honest it feels too fucked up to smile.

''Promise that you'll facetime every fucking night! I'm going to kill you if you don't call'', she laughs and I nod.
''I will'', I say before turning around so I'm facing Travis and I pull him into a hug.
''I'll miss you, big bro'', I chuckle.
''I won't miss you, though'', he says but laughs when I hit his arm.
''I'm kidding. I'll miss you too, little sister'', he says before messing up my hair and I walk over to Kevin, hugging him as well.
''Take care of Julia'', I whisper with a laugh.
''I will. Take care of Billie'', he whispers back.
''I will'', I mimic him before pulling away.
''Flight twenty-three to Denmark is now boarding'', the voice from the speaker says, and I wave towards the three people that I will miss so much before walking towards the waiting hall. As I enter the room, I find Billie immediately and she looks a bit stressed. When she finds me, she runs towards mee fast.
''Oh my god, you dumbass! I knew that you would be late. I was about to leave without you'', she laughs before grabbing my hand, pulling me away to the desk where a woman stands.
''I tried! You should be happy that I manages to get up this early!'' I say while showing the woman my ticket. She rolls her eyes playfully before we start to walk through the tunnel that leads to the blue and white airplane.
''My parents and Finneas should sit in the front, so look for them. The plane is pretty fucking big'', she explains as we keep walking towards it. I haven't even thought about my anxiety and as we approach the big plane that will take us up in the air, I feel how my heart beats faster.
''Billie'', I mumble, stopping and she turns around.
''What?''
''This is so fucking scary'', I admit, shaking my head and Billie smiles sadly.
''I know, but I'll keep you distracted!'' She says, grabbing my hand.
''How?'' I ask and she smirks, wiggling her eyebrows.
''Shut the fuck up! You're not funny'', I outburst. Why is she making jokes when I'm literally dying?
''Sorry, babe. We'll find a way. Come on, now'', she says before grabbing my ahand again and pulling me towards the door. She pushes me in and I immediately see two empty seats next to Finneas. He is looking at his phone, but looks up when he sees us.

''Hey, Ember!'' He says as I sit down next to him because I was the first one to etner the plane.
''Yo, Finneas'', I smile and Billie sits down as well. Suddenly, I hear how Billie starrts to talk to someone behind her, and I realise that it's her parents as I turn around. Maggie moves her attention from Billie for a while to smile at me.
''Hello, Ember!'' She says, giving me a smile.
''Hi, Maggie'', I say before noticing the man next to her. I guess that it's her dad? He reaches his hand out and I take that as a yes.
''I'm Patrick, nice to meet you!'' He smiles as I shake his hand.
''Ember, nice to meet you too'', I smile before turning around again. As the engines start, I feel how my heart starts to beat even faster than before. I haven'tbeen flying since forever, why did I say yes to this? I look down at my hands and I see how they are shaking. I guess that Billie notices it, because she grabs my hands, putting them in her lap and rubbing her thumbs over my knuckles.
''You'll be fine'', she mumbles. ''Wanna play a game?''
Her suggestion makes me sigh. It really reminds me of when someone is trying to calm you down when you're freaking out. It's like when I used to be at the doctor as a kid and the doctor would be like: ''How was your summer?'' before putting a fucking needle into your arm. Why would a question about my summer distract me from being stabbed by a needle? I know that Billie won't listen if I say no, so I sigh before nodding.
''Okay, listen. We're going to make a story by saying one word each. Finneas, join us!'' She says and I acutally manage to smile a bit from how excited she is. Finneas nods, putting his phone down.
''I'll start'', Billie says. ''Once.''
''Upon'', I sigh, turning around so I'm facing Finneas.
''A'', he says, laughing at the short word.
''Time.''
''There'', I say as I feel how the plane starts to move.
''Was.''
''A.''
''Uhm, a frog'', I say. Really? A frog? Was that the best thing that I could come up with?
''Who'', Finneas laughs.
''Ate'', Billie says, looking at me and I see in her eyes that she wants me to say a word that I won't say in front of her fucking family.
''A'', I say, looking at her in triumph and she pouts.
''Little'', Finneas says and Billie finds her opportunity.
''DICK!'' She almost yells and some people in the seats around us look at us with a ''How-innappropiate!''-face. Billie laughs, leaning against my arm and I shake my head.
''We're lifting soon," Finneas states, looking out through the window. I swear, if Billie wasn't here, I would never manage to do this, but something about her close to me makes this a lot easier. This is what scares me. If someone makes you feel safe when you're scared, you'll do anything to be with that person all the time because that's the only way to feel okay. But, if that person leaves you, you will never find a way to become safe again and that thought just scares the shit out of me.
As the plane goes faster at the runway, Billie grabs my head and force me to lean onto her shoulder, grabbing my hand. I close my eyes, feeling how the high speed just takes over. After a while, it's not as loud as before and I can finally open my eyes. Billie moves some hair out of my face, smiling at me.
''We're flying, man'', she says, making me giggle.
''That sounded like a title of a bad rap song'', I say, grinning.
''Yeah, we can make a rap song together with that name'', she laughs.
''What should our names be?'' I ask.
''Hmm. Lil Bil and Lil Ems.''
''That sounds so fucking bad'', I laugh, shaking my head.
''I bet you won't say that when we release an album that will go number one on the billboard, man'', she says, unlocking her phone and taking a picutre of us. She posts it on her story along with the text: ''Denmark, here we come''.
After a while, I start to calm down and it doesn't feel scary at all to be in the air. The fact that we got here so early in the morning makes me tired and I lean my head back against the seat. I close my eyes, letting myself get some rest.
