《More Than What He Seems - A Fortnite Story No.1》Chapter 29 - The True Golden King

Despite the amount of blood lost, Midas' eyes flutter open to the familiar setting of the void and Oro's echoey voice.
He struggles to stand, but a boney hand catches him and helps him stand on his two feet.
"O-Oro..."
The skeleton king sighs.
"What can I do Oro?! He stabbed me in the back! I'm basically dead!"
The gold skeleton thinks for a long moment, then looks thoughtful.
"No. That'll kill you!! There must be a better way! I'm not going to lose you!!" Midas panics, declining the idea as blood runs down from his mouth.
He goes to speak, but pauses...then he lets out a defeated sigh. For once, he was all out of ideas. Oro holds out his hands, so reluctantly, he agrees and takes them.
Almost all at once, Midas could feel the power beginning to flow from his fingers to the rest of his body, making him grunt as he flinches. At the same time, his wound was closing up and healing. Midas looks up to find Oro's skeletal figure slowly loosing its shine and glow as tears threaten to form in his eyes.
When it was done, he was devastated to find Oro nothing but a pile of dust on the floor leaving behind his crown, grey empty staff and lifeless head.
"I'm the golden king now... aren't I?" He sighs, looking down at the head and crown.
"Farewell Oro... and thank you for all you've done for me..."
*****************************************
Midas' eyes shoot open, feeling the power flowing through him.
"Chaos!!" He yells, standing up.
The Chaos Agent turns around, covered in a purple aura.
"Hmph, thought you gave up and died." He scoffs, pulling out his now purple ink coated scythe.
"You should know by now that I'm not a guy who gives up so easily."

The gold on his wrists spreads up his arms, covering him in gold.
"And I'm not letting you beat me in this war, not today."
"Do you ever stop monologuing to yourself?!" Chaos Agent yells, leaping at him ready to swing his scythe. Midas retaliates, pulling out his golden pickaxe and blocking it.
"If its to annoy you, then no."
Growling, Chaos Agent backhands the gold man into the device, electrocuting him slightly, purple sparks flying off him.
"For a mastermind you're pretty stupid to forget about how gold is a conductor of electricity." He laughs, swinging the scythe down once more.
"Well, there's a benefit to losing. You learn from your mistakes!" Midas smirks.
Without warning he dodges the scythe as it lands on the device, cracking it slightly, and leaps at Chaos. The two of them engage into a heated fist fight, landing solid blows on each other.
At the same time, Skye, Jules and the others enter the scene, having downed every single Shadow henchmen with only a few Ghost henchmen left down there, beaten and out of breath.
"Quick Jules! See if you can shut this thing down." Rook whispers to her, nudging her shoulder.
"Okay, let's have a look here. Gotta be careful though, this thing looks like it's about to blow." She mutters, fiddling around with the many switches and wires.
TnTina, pulling out her KaBOOM Bow, fires a shot at Chaos Agent's back, burning the suit and scarring it.
"Ugh, of course you'd be the next to betray me!" He bellows, sending an ink coated tentacle at her, piercing her shoulder.
"Ahh!!"
"Tina! Don't worry, we'll- AHH!!"
More tentacles burst from behind Chaos Agent and entangle Skye, Rook, Ocean and Jules, all of them straining to escape.
"It's no use! I can't find any specific wires to deactivate the thing! We've gotta blow it up! Completely this time!" Jules shouts, struggling to breath in the tight grip.

"Jules! Skye! TnTina! Ocean! Rook!" Midas breaths.
Chaos Agent uses Midas being distracted to his advantage and captures both him and the tied up Sophie with the tentacles behind him.
"Such a shame isn't it Midas? No matter what you do, good or bad, you can't save anyone." He chuckles, dropping Midas harshly onto the ground.
"Not even this disappointment. I can tell why she's not an agent. She's pathetic, a coward." He goes on, edging closer to the end of the helipad.
"No, wait! Don't!!" Midas yells, getting up and running towards the Shadow leader.
But just as he reaches him, Chaos Agent throws Sophie over the edge, tossing her to die on the ground below.
Midas falls onto his knees, a empty expression on his pale face. He covers his mouth as he tries to fight back tears, but the the feeling of guilt and sadness is too much... and begins to weep, silently crying into his golden hands. Chaos Agent's cruel, inhuman laughter swarms around him...
...until he stops unexpectedly.
"What?! What the hell?!" Is his confused, angry yell.
Midas wipes his golden tears away and looks over the edge:
Meowscles and Kit were down there, and in his strong arms lied Sophie, unconscious.
"Forgot about us eh Chaos?!" He laughs, winking at his son as if giving him a hint.
Kit pulls out a shockwave grenade launcher and propells them both into the air and fires a rocket launcher at Chaos Agent, blowing him back and setting the others free.
"Meowscles, Kit...thank you..." He thanks them, hugging them and petting Kit.
"No problem boss." The buff cat purrs happily.
"Untie her and keep her with you for the time being." Midas directs him, turning to Chaos Agent.
Ink drips from his head and tattered clothing as Midas approaches him.
"Listen closely 'buddy'. You're a real smart thing, but you made one fatal mistake."
Via Midas' wink, Kit shockwaves the 2 leader into the air as Midas grabs hold of Chaos by the collar of his shirt.
"You've messed with my friends and family. And those who mess with them..."
Looking upwards, the others can make out the faint image of a skeletal figure behind Midas, mimicking his hand gestures and movement.
"They get no mercy from me. Now accept defeat and bow before me, the TRUE golden king!!"
Putting his fists together, Midas slams down his hands on Chaos Agent's head, forcing him to plummet down to the ground. Before he can even react, the tentacles on his back are slit off by a swipe of Skye's sword. Jules, using her wrenches, punches Chaos Agent over to the device.
Due to the ink on his back, he sticks to the glass, unable to move. And, for good measure, Ocean sticks the same dagger he used on Midas through his stomach.
"Everyone! Move it now!" Meowscles shouts, making a dash to the stairs.
Everyone makes their move and follow Meowscles down the stairs, escaping the Authority as quick as their legs will go. Chaos Agent, struggling to get off the device's glass spherical shape, wonders why they're just running off. But it doesn't take him long to figure it out as he looks up and sees Midas dropping down with his fist clenched.
He breaks through the glass, his hand making contact with the corrupted purple energy inside, as the device begins malfunctioning and explodes.
