《More Than What He Seems - A Fortnite Story No.1》Chapter 12 - Catching Up

Leaving my office, I begin to stroll around the outskirts of the Fortilla. While also doing their respective jobs, I notice a few henchmen seem to be having respectful conversations, asking how their morning has been, the usual. They pause their chit chat as I walk past them, straightening their posture, making sure I sees that they're doing their job and not just talking to each other.
"I'm surprised. I would have thought a majority of the henchmen working for me would've diverted to Shadow because of what I've done... flooding the island... all the Shadow henchmen I've killed or turned to gold..."
Looking down at my golden hands, I feel the scenery around me disappear.
"Huh? What is this?"
Faints screams ring out as I look down and see my hands coated in blood, and a ominous voice calling my name:
"Sir!"
Breaking out of the illusion, I find a few henchmen looking at me, concerned.
"Boss, are you alright?" One of them asks me.
"I'm... I'm alright. Thank you for your concern." I answer, although truthfully, I'm not sure what happened just then myself. "I apologize, was there something else you needed to ask me?"
"Oh, yes. The lady known as Jules requests your company." Another informs me.
"Jules, hm? Very well, I shall be there immediately."
"Sir, should we let her know you're coming-"
"That will not be necessary, my friend. Thank you though."

Midas, coming round a corner, eventually locates his sister fishing outside the Fortilla. With a sigh, he walks up to her.
"Not sure if the swamp is the best place to fish Jules." He remarks, sitting next to her.
"Hmph, you actually wanted to come see me? That makes a change..." She groans, still upset about yesterday.

The two siblings sit in silence, unsure of what to do or say to each other, after all, the last time they spoke to each other it developed into a heated argument, and Midas doesn't really want that to happen again.
"About yesterday... I'm sorry I yelled at you. Being a leader of an entire organisation, it can be stressful at times." He apologizes, rubbing his arm.
"Have you ever thought of taking a day off or something? That might help you." Jules suggests.
"I can't Jules, I'm a busy man. Every second wasted is a second I could be working on plans for Shadow's demise." Midas admits, clenching his fists.
"Hmph, way to put it lightly eh?" She sighs, gently reminding him that SHE'S a Shadow member too. The two get up and walk back inside the Fortilla.
"I shouldn't tell you this...but a bunch of Shadow henchmen are coming here tomorrow morning for me. C told me through my earpiece earlier." Jules confesses. Suddenly, Midas places a hand on her shoulder, making her shiver slightly.
"Thank you for telling me. I'll be sure to let my agents and henchmen know about this."
"...you're welcome I guess..."
Midas makes his way back to his office and opens the door, offering for Jules to come inside. Reluctantly, she agrees and wonders in.
"I must admit, your office is pretty glamorous. A lot better than Chaos Agent." She smiles with a snicker at the last comment.
"Thank you Jules. At least, through your opinion, I have something Chaos doesn't."
Jules lets out a chuckle, it seems like the two are finally showing signs of healing whatever happened in the past.
"I understand it's a touchy subject, but how has mother been since... you know..." Midas asks, taking a file from his cabinet.

"Actually... she's doing ok. When I told her I was leaving home, she seems apprehensive at first. But I promised her I'd be ok, and in return, she wanted me to find you so she could know that her little 'golden child' was ok too?"
She snickers at the term she uses to address Midas who, at the same time, blushes in embarrassment.
"Oh lord, she's STILL calling me that?! I'm not a kid anymore!" He covers his face as a small chuckle escapes from his mouth.
Jules, surprisingly, begins to laugh at her brother's embarrassed state.
"If only mum could see us now. What would she say after all I've done?"
Jules, ceasing her laughter, sits next to him and smiles.
"I'm sure she'd be proud of what you've accomplished in life."
Midas, exhaling out his nose, begins to getting up from his chair.
"Y'know, we may be on opposite sides in this war, but I'm glad, even if for just today, we had a chance to talk and catch up with one another." He tells her.
"Same here Midas." She agrees.
"You do know there's nothing stopping you from diverting to Ghost, right?" He reminds her.
"I've already made up my mind M. I'm sorry but I can't." She sighs sadly, going to leave.
"Well, my offer will always be there. I'm sure you'll change your mind eventually." He says that with a wink of his scarred eye.
"Oh, by the way... what I said about that little girl. I'm sorry about it. While I may not have the best opinion of her, just promise me one thing... don't abandoned her like you did me, just protect her as best you can...I would hate to think what Shadow would want with her..."
A horrible realization hits the golden mastermind as his sister exits, closing the door softly behind her:
Shadow will probably try to use her against him. So if she's to be safe, he'll have to protect her and honour his sister's one promise...
