"Vikranth your phone is ringing", Meera mumbled in her sleep.
"I want to sleep Meera, please you attend the call", he said and immersed again in his sleep.
Leaving out a sigh, Meera opened her eyes. She raised and leaned on Vikranth to take his phone on the side table. Rubbing her eyes Meera noticed that the call is from her father in law.
She immediately sat straight and attend the call nervously.
"Hello, Vikranth," hearing the lady's voice she understood that is Vikranth's stepmom. She sounded anxious.
"Yeah, Aunty what happened?"
"Meera, will you and Vikranth can come now, his father condition was critical," his stepmom said and Meera immediately agreed and ended the call.
Hearing Meera's nervous filled voice, Vikranth automatically woke up from his sleep.
"What happened?" he sounded in fear.
"Vikranth your dad's condition is serious, we have to go now," Meera said.
Hearing that Vikranth's face turned sore and he remained like that till they reached the hospital. Meera can feel his fear but Vikranth, as usual, didn't show that on his face. He drove the car at a high speed and became very silent.
His dad is not a good person in his point of view, but still, Vikranth having a small affection on him in the deepest part of his heart, even he did a lot of mistakes Vikranth still addressing him as a dad and taking some good advice from him.
Meera can feel his woe even though he showed like that he's alright and inside she is praying God that nothing should happen to his dad.
Vikranth walked in a rush to the ICU where his dad getting treated by the doctors. His stepmom was crying standing before the ICU and her daughter (Vikranth's half-sister) is also there. Seeing them Vikranth legs slowed down and soon it stopped.
I looked him like what happened,
"Stay with them Meera, I will come here after seeing the doctor," he said and left the place and Meera walked carrying Siddharth.
"Oh Meera", his stepmom started to cry seeing her.
"Don't cry, Aunty," Meera said and patted her shoulders.
"Amma, don't cry," her daughter said too.
Meera first met them in Arjun's wedding. His stepmother was not an evil person, she's a kind and very good human, and his half-sister was living in Germany with her husband, she got married just four months before. She too was a good person like her mom.
Meera doesn't have any bad impression on them. When Siddharth was born, his stepmother came to see Meera while Vikranth was not in the home. She asked Meera to take care of her health and advised her to call whenever she needs any help.
She nodded but considering Vikranth's heart she refrained to talk with them when they are happened to meet on any occasions in these five years. But without Vikranth's knowledge, she will talk to her on the phone if she calls.
And Meera came to know she's still repenting for entering into lives and destroying their peace.
"Doctor said this time it is a severe heart attack and the chance of survival is very less," Vikranth's half-sister said after they are settled down in the resting area.

Meera consoled her and sat there blankly with Siddharth. She doesn't know what Vikranth is going to do in this situation.
When she was worried and nervous Vikranth came with doctors and went with them to the ICU. The place became even more tensed when they asked us to come.
Meera entered the room with Siddharth and looked her dad in law who is now awake and smiled lightly seeing his grandson.
He signaled Meera and Siddharth to come forward. Meera dropped Siddharth on the floor and they moved to him.
Removing his oxygen mask Vikranth's dad touched Siddarth's little hand. His eyes welled with tears when Siddharth gave a smile to him.
"Grandpa why you're here in this room, you said you're going to visit my playhouse when you're coming," he asked.
He chuckled hearing innocent words. "I will come soon," he choked and sobbed. Seeing that Vikranth's eyes welled with tears.
"Siddharth, grandpa will definitely come to see you," Vikranth carried him and handed him to Meera. He signaled her to leave but his dad asked them to stay.
"Meera... take care of my son, you're the only person he is having. Please don't make him sad for anything."
Meera's eyes welled with tears. "Sure uncle but don't talk like you're going to leave us, we need you," she said.
For that, he gave a helpless smile like he knows that his life is going to end in a few hours or in a few days.
"Please, everyone leave I want to talk with Vikranth," he said and all left the ICU leaving them.
It took about twenty minutes for Vikranth to come outside and when he came out his face was extremely sad and his eyes were welled with tears he didn't look at anyone. "Dad wants to see you," he said to his half-sister and strolled out of the place.
Seeing his tears Meera became worried, she followed him carrying Siddharth and waited for him to come out of the restroom. She knows he is not okay, she wanted to stay with him and be a comfort so that he won't feel alone.
"Vikranth are you alright? What happened?" She asked when he stood in front of her.
Vikranth didn't say anything and hugged Meera and Siddharth. He started to cry on her shoulder. Meera was taken to see that. She never saw Vikranth so emotional and first time looked so weak and devasted.
"Vikranth why you're crying, please don't cry," she tried to console him but Vikranth sobbed hugging her tightly.
That night his father died shocking everyone. Vikranth didn't cry hearing the news and remained calm as he knows it already.
Life is something unpredictable and undefined that reveal the truth at a much unexpected time.
Vikranth hated his dad for everything he did to his mom. But to say the truth it is not intentionally done by his dad. It was his fate that turned his life upside down giving situations to make sins and commit mistakes. As a result, he lost many things and importantly that made his one and only son hate him completely.

The moment everyone left the ICU, Vikranth sat beside his dad.
"Don't talk like you're going to die," Vikranth stated and looked away.
"Don't console me, I know that's all Vikranth, I am going to die", he said with a smile.
"Appa..."
"Vikranth at least now, will you forgive me?" his helpless voice stirred up his tears that are fighting to stay behind.
"Who I am to forgive you, you have to beg forgiveness to my mom, not from me."
"I can't ask her Vikranth because I am not that brave like you," he said.
"I did every single thing in the wrong way, because of that I lost your mom and you. But you're not like me, you know how to correct your mistakes and protect the women you love"
"Yeah, I am not like you in that way, but you know what I am you in the way I think, and in the way, I speak," Vikranth chuckled.
"But Vimal resembled a lot like you dad, that is why mom loved him more," he added.
"Why? Why you have broken our family?" Vikranth questioned and his eyes started to shed tears.
"I am sorry Vikranth, I never intend to do that. I never dreamed of marrying another woman, it is all my fate Vikranth. I am a Victim of my bloody fate."
"Don't blame your fate for this," Vikranth shrugged.
"See I am helpless Vikranth, whatever I reason about my situation you won't understand that is what my fate is..."
"But listen to me Vikranth, I never loved anyone other than your mom, she is my love and my happiness. And then you came as a gift. You don't know how happy I felt to see you growing up and I loved Vimal just like you."
"I married Seetha (his second wife) because I did an extremely stupid thing. I don't have another option so to correct one mistake, I am pushed to sacrifice my important thing in life.
You don't know Vikranth how much I repented while thinking about your mom's love for me. I cried and regretted, I became ill and now I am going to be with your mom. I am happy Vikranth because this what I wanted for all these days," he said breathing unevenly.
Vikranth looked down, he can understand his words. Because once Vikranth was in his situation.
"I want you to live happily Vikranth, with your wife, she's really a nice woman like your mom doesn't ever lose her in any situation and thanks for showing Siddharth to me. I think it is enough for me," he said his last words.
"Please look after your stepmom and your sister, they are innocent people Vikranth don't hate them.
Forgive this cruel, heartless dad, I never intend to betray you and my wife," he cried.
"Dad it is enough," Vikranth held his hand and cried.
Sometimes it is better to not be aware of a person's true nature. Because it will hurt more than anything to realize how different they are apart from our imagination.
He cried not because of this realization, but for this disoriented situations that happened in his life.
To think, how beautiful his life would have been when this stupid fate doesn't happen in his father's life. Then Vikranth must be happily living with his dad and mom, getting all the care and love along with his brother Vimal.
And how perfect it would be if he had met Meera in another time or in another beautiful rainy day and genuinely proposed his feelings there then he must have loved her each and every minute in the way he wants.
And how great it would be if he married her with his parent's blessing and lived like happily ever after. But... nothing happened in the easiest way.
But why it happened this way... Vikranth questioned.
I think this what my life is. I am the reason for my mistakes and my happiness. Though it has a lot of hardships it is beautiful in its own way.
My dad taught me a lesson that whatever you're, never ever betray the person who's trusting. Even you did a great sin accept that and correct your mistake. And love the person who truly loves you. I have to thank him for teaching this to me.
My life is blissful now because of my Meera and finding her was the best way I got to get my happiness, I don't know what would have happened if I didn't meet her but now I can't even think a life without her, wherever she is, that place is my heaven, she's is the reason for my life. And Siddharth, I will give him a life that I missed and I will shower the love that I never had.
I promise you, Sid, I will give you a perfect life yet simple one, where you will find peace and happiness, love and affection, care and compassion... Vikranth decided and embraced Siddharth, were he's sleeping peacefully on his shoulders. He is standing on the balcony and looking at the beautiful city.
"He slept!!" Meera exclaimed and came towards them taking very slow steps.
"Yes," Vikranth whispered and included her in his embrace with his other hand. He closed his eyes and felt the most peaceful moment of his life.
"Baby, I decided names, we should name our son as Shiva, and daughter as Lakshmi okay," Meera asked touching her baby bump. (Twins)
"Hmm," Vikranth hummed and looked at the sky with full of stars. In this heavenly moment, he turned his gaze and wanted to tell those three words that will never equalize the affection he is having on her, but still, he doesn't have any other words than those three words.
"I love you, Meera" hearing his words Meera looked up to see him
Giving a wide smile, "I know", she replied and blushed hard.
"And I love you too,"
Vikranth grinned for realizing how lucky he is to have Meera by his side and without wasting any second he placed his lips on hers.
The perfect life I dreamt is here, with me... I am perfect because of your love, Meera!!

The Song of Souls
WARNING TO MY USUAL READERS: This is not my usual style of story. I've decided to turn this into an anthology of short one-shot stories, that are very atypical of my usual stories or style. Some will be horror, others romance, and others just stupid silly ideas I have. Basically, a collection of shorts I write when I need a break from my usual writing style. I'll include a summary at the start of each "chapter" telling you what to expect. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SUMMARY! The content and quality of each story will probably vary wildly. (One is even a horror romance featuring an eldritch horror. I promise it's weirder than it sounds.) If you do want to check out my usual writing, be sure to take a gander at my ongoing series, Of Men and Dragons. It's a bit of a long haul at this point, but hopefully it's worth the read!
