《The Newborn》Chapter 13

Novalee looks at herself in the mirror in Alice's old room. She's wearing some black leggings, a white long sleeved shirt, some black boots that reach her knees, her hair is straight. Her lips are her skin tone. The only makeup the vampire touched was eyeliner.
Her phone pings, and she jogs over to check it.
I'm at the boarder, I'll be patient. But your mate's waiting meet you.
Novalee rolls her eyes. If she were human, she'd definitely be blushing. She leaves her phone on the counter before walking out of the house after putting on a denim jacket. She stuffs the keys inside one of the many pockets after locking up before zooming into the woods. She meets Paul after feeding on a bear.
"Hey," Novalee says as she approaches Paul, wiping the blood from her lips. "It wasn't human." She smirks. "Just a bear who was trying to kill his cubs."
Paul nods. "Come on across the line, Nova."
She smiles nervously as she crosses. Butterflies rise in her stomach, making her feel all giddy inside. She's meeting her mate for the very first time in wolf territory. Paul notices and he touches her arm, in an attempt to calm her. Novalee smiles at Paul and lets him lead her to to Sam's. The woodsy smell hits her as soon as they leave the tree line.
A boy in a grey shirt where the sleeves go to his elbows and jeans is standing in the porch. His hair's kinda short, but still shaggy. He's tall, and looks like he'd be fit beneath the shirt, but Novalee isn't focused on that. She's looking into his eyes, she knows it's Embry.
"Come on," Paul groans from the porch. "You two can ogle over each other inside."

"Shut up, Paul," Embry and Novalee say at the same time, they eye each other and laugh.
Paul groans before he goes inside, slamming the door and is yelled at by Emily.
"Hey," Embry greets as Novalee finally walks onto the porch. "I'm Embry."
"I gathered," Novalee muses. "I'm Novalee, but you probably know that, too."
Embry smiles. "I do. Come in."
Embry oepns the door up and Novalee walks into the homey little cabin. There's a human in the doorway odthe kitchen, she has some faded scars on her jaw.
"Hi," Novalee greets shyly.
Emily offers a warm smile. "Hi, there."
Embry is sitting on the couch, he's fiddling with his fingers, he's nervous. The shifter has no idea how to act around Novalee.
"Sam," Novalee speaks up as she sits beside Embry, hai face turns red. "Can you explain imprinting to me?"
"Of course," Sam smiles as he sits in the chair across from the two. "Imprinting is more potent than regular love, more intense. Instead if gravity holding you on earth, it's your imprint. The imprint is the focus, nothing else but them matter. You'd defy anyone, even me, for her, or him. Do anything for the person." Sam glances at Emily lovingly and turns back to the duo. "Most think that a love relationship is mandatory. But it's not, really. It can be boy friend / girlfriend, best friends, siblings, or just a plain protector."
"That's..." Novalee smiles. "That's beautiful."
"It is," Sam says. "Embry imprinted in you in the woods last night."
"I guessed with how he acted," Novalee replies. "I just didn't know what it was."
"I'll leave you two alone," Sam says and he leaves.

Paul mutters a few choice words before he goes to pick Rachel up. Paul's imprint is Rachel Black, she is Billy's daughter. Jared's imprint is a local girl named Kim Conweller.
Embry looks at Novalee when they're alone, and sees her golden eyes. "You don't feed on humans?"
"No," Novalee replies. "I only tasted it once, but that was to save a human who was bitten by a nomad."
"I have a choice," Embry admits. "I can accept or deny the imprint."
"Oh?" Novalee grows anxious.
Embry bites his lip as he blushes. "I... I want to accept it."
"Really?" Novalee asks.
"Yeah," Embry replies, warming up to her a bit. "But is like to start off as friends."
"I like that," Novalee agrees. "We can get to know each other. I just hope you don't change your mind and deny me."
"Trust me, I don't think I will," Embry muses.
Novalee smiles as she looks around the house. "Sam's home is comfy, homey. It smells like cinnamon."
"You don't smell Emily's blood?" Embry asks, Sam tenses on the back porch.
"I do," Novalee admits. "But it doesn't phase me. I don't want her blood."
"That's awesome, how do you do it?" Embry asks, he feels comfy around her now. "How do you maintain control so easily?"
"I think of the Volturi, the vampire royals pretty much," Novalee says. "They'd kill me if I went on a killing spree and I don't want to be dead."
"You are..."
"Embry," Novalee cuts him off. "I know I'm already dead, that's not my point."
Embry rolls his eyes but smiles. "We already get along."
"I guess," Novalee teases. "But I should probably get back..."
"What?" Embry gasps. "No. Stay."
"I don't think I can," Novalee says. "I only had permission to cross to meet you."
Embry looks at Sam, who just entered.
"I'll talk to the council tomorrow," Sam says as Harry walks in.
"Novalee," Harry muses.
"Hi, Harry," Novalee greets as she stands. "Thank you for allowing me to meet my mate."
"It's not a problem, Miss Cullen," Harry replies. "He accepted you?"
"He did," Novalee replies. "But we're going to be friends for now."
Harry nods, he smiles at Embry. "Be careful going home, Novalee. We will see you again soon, I hope."
Novalee smiles at him before Embry walks over and hugs her. Novalee relaxes instantly at his woodsy smell, she inhale deeply before Embry pulls away. He smiles at her before Novalee is gone.
"She is about to change everything," Harry says with a smile. "She's worth it."
"She's a newborn?" Embry asks.
"Pretty much, yeah," Harry replies. "She's calm, isn't she?" The elder sits and Emily brings him some warm tea, he begins to talk about Novalee and the treaty.
