Charts are often checked by new Wattpadders who are looking for a new book to read.

A lot of my readers who vote on my works joined on that very day! The higher you are up, the more likely a new user will check them out. Older users pay less attention to them and browse older books, but being high on the charts means your book must be quite good, so there is a higher chance of them having a look.

This is why the books that are high on the charts have many more views on chapter one. People check them, just to see what the writing is like.

The charts are literally the order in which your book comes up when you click discover and then the relevant genre. If you click on your profile there should be a # plus a number below the title of your book letting you know where you are in the charts. Don't worry if you aren't on there, only the top 1000 get to be on there. These charts are based on the number of recent reads, votes and comments and are constantly changing.
