Chapter 28

I was about to speak when Drew interrupted me.

“Alpha they wish to speak to you immediately they say that they have important information that they need to inform you of” Drew explained.

I nodded in understanding hearing the urgency in his voice so I knew this conversation with the elders would have to wait.

I stood up about to give directions to Drew when he interrupted me again.

“Alpha they also had trouble crossing the border it seems that the rogues and hunters that are working together are gathering a mile outside our borders. It seems that they are preparing to attack” I looked into Drew’s eyes and saw nothing but worry.

It made me realise the situation that many people would be in especially those with children like Drew. Gesibellle was four months pregnant know and I could tell Drew was happy at expanding his little family but scared because of the timing of it all the war was just around the corner and who knew if any of us would live through it.

I walked to Drew holding his hand giving it a squeeze an act of reassurance I saw a small smile light on his face at my actions.

“Drew I want you to take the elders to get some food and the pack doctors should be free by know so ask them to look over their injuries. Also I want you to inform Mick that it’s his job to make sure that all the new packs settle in have Trevor and Daniel help him and give patrol duty to Victor”.

Drew nodded and started leading the elders outside the room towards the infirmary.

I turned to look at Alek who looked deep in thought probably still thinking over what Elder Drake had told us about.

I mean I was still shocked every wolf had been told about the demise of the monarchy but we had always been told that the fall of the monarchy had been due to the natural death of the queen and the lack of an heir.

But it seems that there was much more to that story though I couldn’t help but wonder what connection Alek and I had to this story.

“I’m not sure but I don’t think we’re going to like what the Alphas have to tell us il mio dolce” Alek spoke as he walked up to me wrapping his arms around my waist pulling me close.

I could feel his worry as he could feel mine even though we have not had the opportunity to mark one another we still could feel each other’s emotions something I had not expected but was glad for.

It made us both know how we felt about each other no lies were hanging between us I only hoped that we would both make it through this war together. So we could be a family with Kevin.

I missed spending time with him we were so busy with the preparations for the upcoming war I know Kevin noticed our distance from the sad look on his face but there was nothing we could do if we wanted to protect him and the rest of our packs then we must prepare.

“I know how you feel, but we have no choice we must be strong for our packs” I said.

“Yes we must, I can’t tell you how happy and proud I am that you are my mate il mio amore” he said I couldn’t help but blush he was so sexy when he spoke to me in his native language.

I felt Alek shaking as my cheek was pressed against his chest; he chuckled caressing his fingers against my cheek.

“You are so innocent my love” he said as soon as he stopped his laughter.

I blushed even more at his comment my face had reached the deepest shade of red possible his laughter started up again.

I was so embarrassed I pushed out of his embrace and walked to were Drew had placed all the alphas in the meeting room.

As soon as I walked into the large room my eyes took notice of the eight alphas surrounding the long rectangular table.

As I took in their appearances I realised that they were all in some sort of disarray with ripped clothing and a few cuts but the injuries were only minor.

Though I didn’t expect anything else these were extremely powerful and well respected alphas in this room they were the only ones out of hundreds of alphas that I trusted. As soon as I met them I felt an unexplainable trust towards them and their feelings on the matter had been mutual.

“Leila honey how are you it’s been a while” Alpha Dane of the crescent moon pack spoke as he walked towards me his arms outstretched.

I walked into his arms smiling as he wrapped his arms around me giving me a fatherly hug. However it didn’t stop a small growl from escaping Alek’s mouth causing Alpha Dane to throw a questioning look in his direction as I pulled out of the hug.

Alek smiled sheepishly “Sorry Alpha Dane she’s my mate”.

As soon as those words left his lips Alpha Danes confused expression turned into one of understanding then amusement as a small smile lit his face.

“Well I guess a congratulations is in order” a smiling Alpha Michael of the Lobo Gris pack said.

I blushed which left all the male alphas in fits of laughter as they took in the deep red colour spreading across my checks.

“Okay okay yes we are mates but we have more important issues to discuss right know don’t we, you have to tell us what happened to you on your journey here and what important information have you found out”. I asked leading the alphas towards the seats of the long table.

“I was heading to your pack from the north along with Alpha Jacobson of the celestial moon pack all was well until we came across the scents of hunters and rogues we used precautions but in the end as we were joined by the other alphas we were attacked we were able to make it out with no fatalities though many of those in our packs have serious injuries and are in your infirmary at the moment.” Alpha Gabriel of the silver wolf pack spoke.

“Though we were able to capture a rogue and I had my best warriors interrogate him we were able to extract some information from him about the leadership of the rogues and hunters. The fact is we were all confused about how the rogues had been so well organised over the past few months especially their involvement with the hunters. Anyways the rogue gave up the information quickly he told us that about a year ago a new wolf appeared he took control of the rogues with sheer dominance and he has been the one that has been calling all the shots and he is the one that has formed the alliance with the hunters and rogues.” Alpha Dane spoke.

I took all this new information in I looked towards Alek who didn’t look the least surprised it had been something we had expected why else would the rogues who had been so disorganised be able to form a united front.

Before I could say anything Alpha Victor Smith of the Wolf Krijgers spoke “also we were able to learn that the leader of these rogues and hunters has specifically picked out your pack to attack at first we thought it was simply because your pack is the strongest but the rogue also told us that they all had specific instructions to kill you.”

I was shocked as to why this unknown leader wanted me dead what was the connection this got more confusing by the minute.

Alek voiced my thoughts “why though, as far as we know no one has ever really wanted to hurt Leila and the only people that have are those that belong to the Black wolf pack and they are weak and their alpha is not dominant enough to be the one behind this.”

All of the alphas looked in deep thought I myself was confused but our confusion was cut short as a voice echoed across the room.

“I can tell you why he wants you dead” I whirled around in my seat and saw Elder Drake standing there in the doorway with Drew next to him.
