Chapter 18

As we stepped back into the pack house I could see that some of my pack members were on edge as I scoped the area with my eyes trying to figure out why the answer came to me.

Due to all that had happened I had failed to tell my pack members of what was happening they had expected a treaty between packs not a near war with one.

I saw Mick amongst some of the women and elderly and called for him.

“Mick did anything happen while I was talking to the other alpha” I asked concerned.

“No alpha everything was fine here but many are confused at what happened and aren’t sure about the new arrivals” I sighed already wanting the day to finish but I new that I had already wasted enough time in telling my pack of what had happened.

“Okay Mick this is what I want you to do spread the word to the entire pack that there will be a pack meeting tonight after dinner, until then tell them to be courteous to the new faces they see around the pack house and that all their questions will be answered tonight”.

Mick started to move towards a few pack members but before he could leave I said "and mike after you have done that come to my office we have important issues we need to discuss”. Mick bowed his head and replied with a simple “yes alpha”.

I was too tired to use the pack link but had to call Drew through it he had gone to coordinate the warriors.

“Drew”

“Yes alpha”

“After you’re done with the warriors come to my office we need to talk” I said simply getting to the point straight away it wasn’t a time to play games.

“Okay alpha I’ll be there in 15 minutes”

Cutting the link I headed towards the kitchen surprisingly I wasn’t stopped by my pack members but they could probably already feel the fatigue and tiredness I was so desperately trying to hide.

I decided to make a few sandwiches and drinks for me Drew and Mike I knew that I was not the only one who was tired from this long day and we still had work to do.

I decided to not take anything else because I already had a kettle and fridge in my office that contained snacks and warm drinks.

I put the sandwiches and drinks on the table and went to the bathroom to freshen up and change into something more comfortable. Which to me are a tank top and some trousers with fluffy slipper socks which I thought were quite cute.

Barely a minute had gone past and Mick followed by Drew entered my office and sat down in the chairs opposite my desk. I pointed out the sandwiches and drinks and with a quick dig in we were eating in comfortable silence.

We had finished our sandwiches in a matter of minutes not realising how hungry we had been we had missed lunch with all the chaos around us.

“Okay let’s get down to business “I then gave Mick a quick recap of what had happened in the clearing and apart from a few growls and gasps he stayed silent throughout.

“So we are not making a treaty with the silver shadow pack we have to pass the news on of what we have learnt about them to the counsel the Elders would like to know”. I said looking towards my beta and third in command who nodded their heads in agreement.

“I’m not sure but what it looks like is that there is a clear divide between the alphas I’m not sure what some would think of our clear disagreements with the silver shadow pack but they will just have to live with it”.

I spoke uncaringly I was not going to waste my time trying to suck up to a bunch of alphas who thought that they had the divine right to rule because of their bloodline.

I mean I had met a few alphas who did not come from alpha bloodlines but Beta or third in command who had been great leaders for their pack even better than the ones who were born into it.

“Okay we have to make a good list of what we need to do, Mick I want you to call the Elders and tell them what has happened and our disagreement with the silver shadow pack I have a feeling they will not like the fact that we disgraced their alpha.” I said to Mick turning my head slightly to talk to Drew.

“Drew I need you to get in contact with our allies and make sure the treaties are renewed some of them are coming to an end especially alpha Nicholas and alpha Jones they have the closest pack territory and I know they are good to their pack members so it won’t be hard.” Drew nodded his head to me in understanding.

I wasn’t sure on whether or not to share the feelings that me and my wolf had started experiencing but looking at their faces I couldn’t hide it they both had helped me make this pack what it was today the deserved to know.

“There’s something else I have started to have these feeling my wolf is restless as if a battle is close I don’t want to scare our pack members without any evidence but I do want us to be prepared”. I took a breath looking at them to see they were concentrating on every word that left my lips.

“It might not be a battle but I don’t want us to be left with no defence. Plus there is also the fact that we might be the next target for the rouges and hunters since were know the strongest pack”. I sighed at the complicated situation we were in we couldn’t be sure that no lives would be lost.

“Mick go make that call to the Elders for me, I’ll do some of the paperwork with Drew until you get back.”

“Okay alpha” Mick said walking out the door.

I took the information that we had gathered about the silver shadow pack and put it in the filing cabinet and took out the file with the requests for help from other packs.

Lately we had been getting lots of those especially smaller packs asking for training some had even gone to the level of demanding that I send my warriors to protect them.

You would think that they would ask the council first but the council had been struggling with their own attacks from hunters and rouges and had a limited amount of packs that they could help.

I sat down with Drew to discuss a problem with a pack that was that was 10 miles away that did not have more than 50 members that was being attacked when Drew brought up a different topic altogether.

“Who do you think Kevin’s real parents are?” he asked looking into my eyes.

I was shocked at his abrupt question but answered it nevertheless.

“I’m not sure Drew but I do think that he has either a third in command or beta blood in him.” I answered my mind drifting off.

"What????" Drew screamed.

“Yes I feel the power in his blood I think if an alpha was his father he would have already come forward so he doesn’t have alpha blood but it is strong so I think he has beta ancestors”.

Drew looked shocked at this revelation but it had been something I had known for a while I thought that they could all sense the hidden power in him.

“So why do you think you reacted to Kevin in such a way” Drew questioned.

“I guess it was his wolf calling out to mine, I could feel his loneliness and despair it’s like what I went through as a child in my old pack I had no one. So I guess my wolf felt a connection to him somehow and due to this connection it was hard for me a Kevin not to recognise it.” I took a breath not really paying attention to anything as I continued talking.

“I guess I became a sort of surrogate mother for Kevin and him my son” I sighed not knowing things were really annoying.

I looked to see that Mick had returned without me realising I had been so into my own thoughts I had not heard him re-enter my office. I looked at them both know and voiced my hidden thoughts.

“But no matter if I feel these things I can’t help but think that there is a bigger reason to why my wolf and I care so much for him I’m just glad he’s not that stupid alphas son” I said.

I saw both Mick and Drew look at one another in slight shock then Mick directed an unsuspected question at me.

“I find it weird that you can so casually talk about your mate in such a disrespectful way” he said confused.

“What you think he deserves better” I asked with raised eyebrows.

Hell no he doesn’t that arse was lucky we didn’t call him worse and rip his throat out.

I totally agree with my wolf she was perfect at summarising our feelings towards him.

“No I didn’t mean it like that it’s just he’s your mate and normally mates can never say a bad word to each other without them feeling guilty or submitting to the male” Mick replied his face looking as if he was trying to solve a puzzle.

“Well I feel nothing towards him me and my wolf feel nothing but distaste at the thought of him” I growled.

Drew who had been sitting quietly looked up at me trying to get the information he needed from my eyes to see if I was telling the truth.

“You and your wolf both have rejected him?” Drew asked.

“Yes “I replied without hesitation for it is the truth.

“There are cases of mates who have been rejected but they lost their minds and killed themselves because their wolves couldn’t face it, but others very few live on because there wolves don’t take the rejection as expected” Drew paused looking at me.

“I think because both you and your wolf rejected Kellan as your soul mate it dissolved the connection between you, your wolf did not think he was good enough to be your mate” I couldn’t help but feel shocked at this but I understood me and my wolf were not pushovers.

I couldn’t help but think that maybe this meant that I could meet someone someday but who knew if we would live till then I could still feel as if something terrible was going to happen

“Okay let’s stop that conversation and get back to work Drew what’s the next pack that has asked for our help” I asked trying to get something productive done.

All of a sudden Drew gasped in shock I looked at him in confusion.

“What’s wrong Drew tell me” I said worried about what had made the colour in Drew skin disappear he was as white as a corpse.

I could see Drew trying to get words out of his mouth after what seemed like a year he finally spoke.

“It’s the pack that has asked us for assistance it’s ............” Drew stopped as if the word would not leave his mouth.

“Drew tell me” I said a little power leaking into my voice he gulped at the situation whereas me and Mick were on the edge of our seats in anticipation of what he was going to say.

Drew looked at Mick for a few seconds then turned to me looking into my eyes while answering my command.

“It’s the black wolf pack” he whispered.

I could feel the colour leaving my face and the fear penetrating my heart at the mention of the packs name all my past memories came rushing forward all the pain and suffering I had gone through.

Mick gasped “But isn’t that you’re.................” no words left his mouth.

“Yes it’s my old pack “I whispered in dread.
