Caelum, I rolled my eyes. I wasn't expecting things to turn out the way they did, so why was he blowing things out of proportion?

It wasn't my fault—okay, maybe it was partially my fault. Let's say it was completely my fault since I agreed to play that dumb game, but he was at fault too.

I watched as he placed Emery, Clara, and Melanie into the car. They were all dead-asleep, so they couldn't protest on how he had dropped them. Once he was finished, he walked around to the driver's side of the car, yanked the door open before climbing in and slamming it shut.

He turned to me, dark eyes unwavering. I couldn't decipher his expression, which wasn't much of a surprise. "What was that?"

I knew what he was talking about, but I acted dumb. I didn't want to miss any opportunity to mess with him. I shrugged, staring at my newly painted nails. "I don't know what you're talking about."

He scoffed. "Damn right you do."

"It was a dare," I said.

"Next time," he hissed. "Don't try things like that with me."

Okay, chill. What the fuck?

"I asked you to stand still for just one second, didn't I?" I glared at him. "But you refused to, so why are you getting angry?"

"I have every right to be angry," he countered. "Because you fucking used me."

What was he talking about? "I didn't use you, Caelum."

"You did."

"Well, sorry for fucking using you," I said, the annoyance from the fight with Mum coming back in full force. "And fuck you for thinking the fucking world revolves around you."

He chuckled in disbelief. "I don't blame you."

"Blame me for what?" I whipped my head back to face him. "No, what's your issue with me? You don't see me yelling when you treat me like shit, but you want to turn a peck on the fucking lips into a fucking fight?"

I watched as he returned his eyes to the road with clenched jaw. He gripped the wheel firmly and turned on the ignition of the car with his right hand. We exchanged no words after that, and you could imagine how uncomfortable the car ride was. I was genuinely sorry for kissing him since he didn't exactly like it, but give a girl a break.

The slamming of a door brought me back to reality. When I opened my eyes, we were back at the Jensen's and Caelum was carrying his sister into the house.

I whipped my head to the back of the car and I was surprised to see Melanie still sleeping. Did he leave us out here? What about Clara? Well, at least we arrived home safely.

I yawned when I saw him coming back, but said nothing as he dragged Melanie like a sack into the house. I came out of the car a minute later and groaned in pain. I already felt the headache on its way, so I flew into the house, jumped on the makeshift bed in Emery's room, and before I knew it, sleep enveloped me.

The next morning, I groaned loudly as I sat, removing my phone from my bag and checking for any missed calls or messages. There were fifteen new messages and thirty missed calls from mother, and I grinned in satisfaction. I wanted her to feel exactly the way I felt when she didn't pick my calls or return any of my voicemails.

"Daesyn." Emery groaned from her bed. "Why do you have that weird smile on your face?"

I cleared my throat. "Nothing Em, I need Aspirin."

"Oh," she said. "Check the first cabinet in the kitchen."

"Okay, I—"

She threw a pillow at me. "Can you please do what you want? I need to sleep."

I shook my head in pity—glad I drank two glasses of alcohol—before leaving the room. I saw Clara and Melanie lying on the couch, so I assumed Caelum dropped them there last night.

The house was silent, but I couldn't help but wonder where their parents were. I hadn't seen Caelum's dad in the house before, and I saw Emery's mum that one time she let me in. Thinking about it now, she wasn't downstairs when I was leaving either.

I opened the first cabinet liked Emery had said and saw the bottle of Aspirin. When I turned around, I gasped in shock at the sight of Caelum. When did he walk in?

Caelum completely ignored my presence, not like I was complaining, but there was a mischievous look that was easy to spot in his eyes. I couldn't help but wonder what he was up to. But without letting my curiosity get the best of me, I quickly drank the Aspirin and ran back to Emery's room, shutting the door loudly.

"Jesus Christ! Daesyn?" Emery shrieked as I apologized furiously. I completely forgot a hungover Emery was in the room.

I walked over to where I kept the sweatpants and T-shirt Emery gave me to wear yesterday. It was hilarious thinking about it now. I had come over for a sleepover in my uniform and without my sleepover bag. I had a feeling she wanted to ask me about what happened yesterday, but she didn't know how to bring the topic up.

Grabbing the clothes, I walked towards the bathroom, carefully closing the door. After washing my face, I used the spare toothbrush to brush my teeth before changing. I was glad I'd washed them before going to the party because I didn't want to wear dirty clothes, nor did I want to bother Emery or the girls.

When I walked back to the room, Emery was not on the bed, so I assumed she was downstairs. I tidied my things and put my hair in a ponytail before going downstairs.

Emery was downstairs—like I assumed, along with Clara and Melanie.

How long did I take in the bathroom?

I also took note of Caelum, since he kept hitting the doors of the cabinets loudly, causing the girls—me inclusive—to wince. The girls were groaning loudly, and I wasn't interested in joining them, so I went to the living room to watch TV.

I placed the volume in the lowest because of my headache and skimmed through random channels. I found it hard to focus since my thoughts kept drifting back to my mother. I knew I was eventually going to confront her, but settling our differences now sounded much better than doing it later.

Sighing, I stood and walked back to Emery's bedroom, picking up my school bag before wearing my shoes. I went back to the kitchen and informed the girls about my plans. They said their goodbyes and Emery said she was going to text me later.

Realizing I didn't take my car keys with me, I strode back into the house to look for them. Something was fishy around here. My keys were with my things last night, but they were not there when I was packing to go home today.

"Did any of you see my keys?" I asked when I entered the kitchen.

"No," the three girls replied simultaneously.

I turned to Caelum. "Where was the last place you saw it?" he asked

"Uh... In Emery's room," I said. "On her desk."

"Then go check there properly!" He shook his head and went back to shutting the cabinets.

Weird.

I went back to Emery's room, and like Caelum said, my keys were on her desk. Did I find this creepy? Totally!

I left the house after my second goodbye and walked to the driver's side of the car. After sitting in the car for a few minutes, I turned on the ignition and decided to listen to some music—just to calm my nerves before meeting my mother.

"If it hadn't been for cotton eye Joe

I'd been married a long time ago

Where did you come from, where did you go

Where did you come from, cotton eye Joe."

I quickly slammed my hand down to turn off the music. I recognized the song playing, but it wasn't my CD! I mean it was obvious I didn't buy the CD, but I never increased the volume of my car to the max. My ears were screaming for help and I was surprised nobody phoned the police to come to arrest the teenager playing such a weird song on the highest volume.

Caelum!

I risked glancing backward, and I saw him. He was laughing so hard, he looked like he was dying. It was his plan all along. Why would he even think of doing something like that? Oh yeah, he was still mad about last night.

Although I was already plotting different revenge scenarios in my head, I couldn't help but smile at the sight of a laughing Caelum. He looked so carefree, a complete difference from how he was daily. When he finally stopped laughing, I sliced a hand through my throat and pointed at him.

"You're next!" I mouthed.

I knew a wrestler who said the same words, so I thought saying it was going to make me look more threatening, but I got a different reaction.

Caelum guffawed for a bit before starting another round of laughter.

Returning my attention to my car, I drove speedily across the street and back on the familiar road to my house. I arrived at my house minutes later and walked towards the door. I checked under the flowerpot and saw the house key there. It only meant one thing: Mum had already traveled. I couldn't imagine I ran home for nothing. We had issues to settle and she just left.

Picking up the key, I opened the door, walking through the not-so-familiar hallway-seeing as I didn't spend all my living moments here like I used to, and towards the kitchen. There was a sticky note on the freezer which I picked up and read.

Baby, mummy has to go to work today. I'll be back next week so take care of yourself, love you so much.

XOXO, mum.

I scowled at the sticky note and threw it in the bin. What did she think? I was going to forgive her if she wrote a stupid note and addressed me as baby? Still scowling, I took a bowl from the cabinet and poured milk into it before adding my fruit loops.

Life was so not fair.
