《You're the guy my dad never shut up about? | S. Rogers [1]》48. The Summer Soldier

A tired, bruised, weak Stark girl laid on the floor. She's been dozing in and out of consciousness for hours, her head hazy and pounding. It hurt to move but she stared at her fingers as she slowly moved around.
"Try, to remem- ber... the k-ind of- sep... tem... ber..." She croaked out.
Her throat is raw and her voice is raspy. If she keeps talking then she'll lose her voice but she doesn't care. As long as she has the ability to talk, she's going to annoy those Hydra agents as much as she can.
"When life... was slo-w and oh... so- mellow..." She heard the familiar hissing of the vents and soon was engulfed in white vapor. She breathed it in and felt herself feeling better but she wasn't fully healed. Just enough to not hurt when it breathes and she can move around a bit.
Galilea turned her head and saw Richard Roman standing outside the cell "Hey, what brings you to my slice of hell?" Gali weakly asked. A small smile on her face. Her eyes darted around the room but she didn't see the knockoff Supernatural angel "where's Castiel?" She asked. It's odd to think but, Gali often found herself asking for the man when he wasn't there.
"He'll be here soon" Richard assured and pressed something on the glass and the door slid open "now come on, I want to show you something"
"What?"
"Get up"
"Do I have to? I'm fine here" she said. Richard rolled his eyes.
"Get. Up"
"Ask nicely"
He mumbled a string of curses under his breath and the door slid open. Castiel casually walked in "finally someone who can reason with this girl"
"If you think I can reason with her, then you are seriously mistaken" Castiel chuckled.
"For once I agree with Jerome" Gali nodded.
Richard groaned and told Castiel to pick her up. He did so with many protests from the girl and walked out of the room. Gali stared at Castiel the whole way and he became irritated. "What?"
"You really do look like a young Jude Law" she said "hey Jude, don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Remember to let her into your heart, then you can start to make it better..." She weakly sang.
"Every second I spend with you, I lose my will to live" Castiel muttered.
"Aww, don't say that" the girl cooed "where's Mary Crawley?" She asked.
"One of these days Mariana will shoot you" Castiel told the girl. I'm counting on it.

They entered a room that's full of screens but the much larger and bigger screen at the back of the room is what caught her attention. That one, unlike the others, is off. Why? Castiel set her on a normal chair and Galilea looked around the screens.
They're news feeds from around the world. They're muted but all she needed to see were the images of destruction. Explosions, buildings collapsing, assassinations of big political figures, amongst other things. It was all horrible.
She didn't understand half the headlines because they were in different languages, but the ones she did understood, she quietly read them under her breath. She stared in horror at the people running from burning buildings, kids begging for food. The economy of countries rapidly declining and it's all because of them. Hydra is responsible for everything in those places and they won't stop.
"How can you work for an organization that does so much horror to the world?" Galilea whispered.
Castiel licked his lips before answering "I have my reasons" he muttered, not looking down at the girl.
She looked up at the man with her big brown eyes "who hurt you Castiel? Who hurt you?"
He dared to look down and locked eyes with her. He took a sharp intake of breath. He's been asked that question many times before by the previous people he had held captive, but something is different that time.
It was either the look Galilea is giving him or because he's actually interacted more with her than with the others, but something was different. The girl has been through so much since she was taken yet there she is, worrying about people from across the world she won't even meet.
"Stop staring at your girlfriend, Castiel" Richard said as he walked pass him.
He snapped back to reality and glared at Richard "she's not my girlfriend"
"Yeah, in case you forgot Richie, I have a boyfriend" Galilea reminded the man.
"The one who's to busy to be bothered looking for you?" Richard turned to the girl.
"What?"
Richard smirked and nodded to the large screen that's off "turn it on" he told the woman at the main controller. She did and Galilea stared at the screen in confusion.
When she fell outside the large open door, all weak and sick, she thought she saw a man with a metal arm. Mariana dismissed her curiosity and she didn't question any further because she was feeling sick and Mariana took her to the bathroom. She had actually forgotten about that incident, but as she saw that said man on the screen, she knew that she wasn't seeing things.

He really does have a metal arm. He had a mask over his nose and mouth and also has goggles. His hair is what Gali calls 'Thor hair' but his is dark while Thor is blond.
She saw the expert punches and kicks he threw. How easily he pushed people off him. He wasn't pushing regular people off, he was pushing the Black Widow off him. Gali saw Natasha fly across the street and slam against a car. She became worried for her friend. She's taken harder throws than that but one can never know.
Captain America dashed over and fought back the metal armed guy. They were neck to neck fighting and blocking blows, then Iron Man swooped down but they were no match to the metal armed man.
"Who- who's that?" Gali pointed a shaky finger at the masked man.
"That my dear, is the Winter Soldier" Richard proudly said.
"But it's summer" she noted. Richard's smile dropped and Castiel sniggered "surely you must have a Summer Soldier, right?" Gali innocently asked.
Richard slammed his hand on the table, causing everyone to jump and stare at Richard as he angrily stalked towards Galilea "do you think this is funny?" His voice is vehement and his cold hard eyes are set on Gali's soft brown ones.
"I think it's hilarious" she said with a small smile.
"You now my dear, most people who've been here as long as yourself, we're easily broken. How come you're not?"
"Well, Dick... I'm not most people" Gali smirked.
He grabbed her face with one hand, his fingers digging painfully into her skin that will for sure leave bruising on her face. Gali winced but didn't let her fear show "I will break you" he stared into her eyes.
"You've been saying that for three weeks. Seems like you're losing your touch, Richie" Gali stared right back into his eyes.
He growled and pulled her out of the chair and pushed her forward to the screen. He grabbed her face and made her stare at her friends who are being beaten down by the Winter Soldier "look at them!" He demanded "look at your precious boyfriend... Look at your big brother" he mocked "they are nothing to the Winter Soldier"
Galilea watched Steve and Tony being brutally beaten by the Winter Soldier. He doesn't hesitate on attacking. He throws one person to the side and then grabs the next one who launches at him. Her eyes widened when she saw Spider-Man swoop down on his web and defend the two men.
What are you doing there?
The Winter Soldier went to punch Spider-Man with his metal arm but the boy caught his hand and threw his web. Get out of there Peter! He dodged the sticky web, pulled his metal hand back and punched Spider-Man, sending him across the street. Clint ran up to Spider-Man and moved his arms around in the air. Gali didn't hear what he said but from the exaggerated arm movements and his facial expressions, she can tell that he wants the kid out of there.
I knew he would warm up to the boy.
The Winter Soldier launched at Iron Man and Gali gasped when the WS punched him hard enough to drop to his knees and began to damage his suit. His metal hand clasped around the arc reactor and he tried to rip it out.
"NO!" Galilea shouted "NO, STOP IT! He's going to kill him! Please, please!" She begged "please stop him" tears began to run down her cheeks.
"Watch, my dear" Richard said in her ear.
Her blood boiled and she balled her hands into fists "don't call me dear!" She yelled before turning around and punching Richard across the face. He stumbled backward and Galilea punched him again.
Castiel held her back and pulled her away from the Dos Equis man "let me go you ass-butt! I said LET. ME. GO!" She shouted and a blast of energy came out her. It was strong enough to knock everyone down and for a moment she had control over everyone in the room.
"Call him off!" She ordered Richard with compulsion. He found himself doing just that and in two minutes, the Winter Soldier ran off, leaving the Avengers beaten and bruised.
Galilea's control over the room was fading away and was quickly handcuffed by Castiel. Richard stood up and straighten his jacket "how did you do that?"
"I- I-" she became very weak and her knees buckled under her. She suddenly gave out and Castiel caught her in his arms. He stared at the passed out girl and up at his boss.
"Take her back to her cell" he nodded his head to the door. Castiel nodded and began to walk out of the room with Gali in his arms "wait, here, give her another dose" Richard handed Castiel a syringe.
"You just carry them around?" He casually asked his boss.
"Don't question me, boy" Castiel hummed an 'okay' and walked out of the room.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
