《Demon Slime | Demon Slayer x Rimuru》Chapter 9: Another One

'The crows are are really active today.' I thought staring at the sky outside of the small cave.
This was the second day since the massacre of the Kamado family. So far, there were already several problems. One, we didn't have any way to transport Nezuko without her getting in contact with the sun. Two, we had to make it all the way Sagiri mountain. Three, we didn't even know exactly what they would find there.
I sighed as he plopped down against the rocky wall in the cave. It was nowhere near comfortable, but it would suffice. 'With my skills, I should be able to fight the Demons, but Tanjiro...' I shook my head. "No. We'll both find a way to fight the Demons. We'll avenge the Kamado family and I'll find a way to get back to my world." I clenched my fist.
"I swear it."
"Hmmm." A slight voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to the right and once I saw who it was, I smiled.
"Hey, Nezuko." Nezuko was awake. She had been sleeping for a while now. "Hmph." She crawled over to me. She isn't able to use proper words anymore. It's probably because of the fact that the bamboo muzzle is prohibiting her from speaking properly. I mean, I've never had a bamboo muzzle on, but I'm pretty sure it would be pretty hard to speak with one on.
She stopped right next to me and we sat down in a while. 'What's she thinking about?' I thought staring at her. It must be rough to be her. Just a few days ago, she and the Kamado family were together, having fun. Then, in what seemed to be a mere instant, the Kamado family died, and she turned into a demon.
...
'Wait a minute, why do I sound super depressing right now?' I thought, scratching the back of my head.
Nezuko only tilted her head in confusion at my actions. She slowly backed away.
'Wait! Did I make this really awkward?'
"No, no, no. It's not you. I just have a lot of things on my mind right now." I said, waving my hands in front of my face. She only responded with a small hum. I let out a sigh as I stared at the ceiling of the cave.
Tomorrow, me and Tanjiro would be going out to try to find a basket to carry Nezuko in as we traveled to Sagiri mountain.
'We can do this.'
~
The chirping of the crows rang through the forest, bringing upon a sign of misfortune.

"Excuse me." Right now, me and Tanjiro were in search of a basket to carry Nezuko in. "Would it be okay if I took that basket, straw, and some bamboo?" Tanjiro asked a farmer while pointing at a basket that looked tattered and worse for wear.
"Sure, you're welcome to take it." The farmer said. "But that basket's full of holes."
"Yes. I'll pay you for it." Tanjiro responded. The farmer waved his hand in front of his face dismissively. "No, that's all right. I mean, it's a basket full of holes."
'He's giving it to us for free?' I thought. 'Well, I mean it is full of holes, so I guess it's understandable. If I was in his position, I would try and save up all the money that I could.' I nodded.
My thoughts were cut short by Tanjiro. "Yes, I will pay you!"
"No, it's all right. You can have the bamboo and straw for free, too." The farmer protested. "But I'm still paying you!" Tanjiro shouted, reaching into his pocket. "I said it's okay! You're one stubborn kid!" I quickly intervened. "Thank you for the donation, kind sir." I said, bowing slightly.
"Rimuru-san, we have to pay him for his kind actions!" Tanjiro said facing me. The farmer just turned towards me. "Jeez, the other one gets it-"
"Please accept this, although it's just small change!" Tanjiro interrupted, quickly forcing money into the farmer's hand. "Oh no." I said out loud as Tanjiro started to run away while the farmer was in pain.
"Thank you very much!" Tanjiro said, carrying all the supplies.
"Hehe, sorry about that." I quickly apologized, scratching the back of my head. "Alright then. Bye!" I said, running after Tanjiro.
"Ouch!" The farmer screamed as we ran away.
~
"Nezuko?"
We were currently outside of the cave. We had just come back from gathering the supplies. We were going to head off right now. We didn't want to waste any time. Any second wasted is another second that a Demon could be out there massacring.
Looking inside the cave there was... nobody? "Huh? Nezuko?" Tanjiro said, staring into the cave.
"She's gone!"
Suddenly, a small head could be soon coming out of a small hole in the ground. "There she is." Nezuko started frowning as we came into the cave. 'She dug a hole?' I thought staring at her. 'Was it to hide from the sun? Demon instincts?'

'Ah. I see.' I thought. 'I guess there's nothing we can do about that then.'
"Wait there for a second!" Tanjiro said, standing up. "Rimuru-san, can you help me prepare the basket?" I stood up as well. "Yeah! Let's get started."
The basket was full of holes so that needed to be fixed. Luckily, we had already thought about that. Tanjiro started cutting the bamboo into thin strips using his axe, while I used the strips to fix the basket, making sure that sunlight wouldn't be able to enter the box.
It was done in a matter of minutes.
"Nezuko?" Tanjiro asked. "Think you can fit inside this?" Tanjiro motioned towards the basket, making it clear what he was suggesting. I would let Tanjiro converse with Nezuko as I think she would feel more comfortable as she's known him for longer.
After all, I've only been in this world for a couple of months.
"I want to keep moving during the day, too." Tanjiro continued. "I'll carry you, okay?"
Nezuko hummed as she stared at the box. "Can you fit?" Tanjiro asked again, this time pointing at the basket. "In here?" Nezuko could only stare. "Basket." Tanjiro said slowly. "Uh, Tanjiro." I said awkwardly. "Yes?" Tanjiro responded. "I think she understands. You don't have to say it slowly like that."
"Ah, sorry." He apologized, embarrassed. He laid the basket on the floor and Nezuko started to get up from the hole. She tried to get in the basket but only managed to push it forwards. 'Hm, she doesn't fit.' I stared at the sight in front of me. If anybody saw this without context, they would think we're crazy.
'Maybe she could shrink?' I thought bringing my hand up to my chin. "Nezuko?" I kneeled down. She only hummed in response. "Remember how you became big like an adult earlier?"
"Do you think maybe you could do the opposite? Get smaller?" I asked. If she couldn't, we would have to find a bigger basket or travel only during the night and have to rest during the day. Nezuko just pushed the basket forward in response and flipped herself over and into the basket. Tanjiro jumped in surprise.
When she emerged, she was sitting in the basket that she wasn't able to fit in just moments ago. Surprisingly, Nezuko had done it. She had managed to shrink. Tanjiro was beaming. "Good job!" He praised, petting Nezuko on the head. 'Hold on, isn't this kind of weird?' I thought, crossing my arms.
"That's a good girl, Nezuko! I'm impressed!"
'Ok, this is definitely weird.' I laughed awkwardly. "Well, Tanjiro, Nezuko, let's go." I said. "Yeah." Tanjiro said, wrapping a cloth around the basket and pulling it over his back.
"Let's go."
~
We had been walking for a while now. The sun was starting to set and we were getting close to Mt. Sagiri. We were kind of lost, so now we're just asking around for directions.
"If you want to go to Mt. Sagiri, you'll have to cross over that mountain, but..." The lady we were asking said. "The sun's about to set. Are you really heading there with all that luggage." The lady asked, concerned.
"It's dangerous, you know."
"I'll be careful." Tanjiro answered. Both of us bowed down. "Thank you very much." We both said simultaneously.
"People have gone missing lately!" The lady said as we were walking away.
"Try not to lose your way!"
Tanjiro turned back and waved at them. 'We'll be there soon...' I thought staring at the vast forest in front of us. 'Something's wrong with this forest... It's ominous.' We continue walking down the path. "Tanjiro." I started.
"Be on guard."
~
The sun had set a long time ago. It was dark. The only sound in the forest were our footsteps walking down the path. Even the crickets were silent. "There's a temple over there." Tanjiro pointed out, staring at a temple.
"There's light leaking through, so someone must be there." Tanjiro continued.
"Let's check it out."
I took one step forward when all of the sudden... I felt it.
A Demon's aura.
I stopped dead in my tracks. There was a demon here and it was out for blood. "Tanjiro." I said. I looked at his face. He had a fearful expression. "Blood!" He jumped. "This mountain path is pretty rough! Someone must've gotten hurt!" Tanjiro said quickly dashing off.
"Hold on, Tanjiro!" I shouted but my words fell on deaf ears. 'He doesn't know it's a Demon.' I thought, quickly running after him. Jumping up the flight of stairs, I landed right behind Tanjiro.
"Tanjir-"
Blood.
Inside the temple, laid several people all brutally slaughtered. It was nauseating. A family? It doesn't matter. All of them cold, gone, gone, empty...
Dead.
"What the hell?" A voice said inside the temple.
"This is my turf."
"If you break into my territory," The voice turned around to reveal blood-shot eyes and pointed teeth.
"I'll make you pay!
'It's another Demon.'

This is the story of Nicholas Gray, the Shadow Demon. Note: Story is based on other LitRPGs found on the site such as Dante's Immortality, Necromancer and Co, etc. and on Halo for the majority of the first chapter and possibly later on down the road, I only borrowed things such as the armour and weapons used in the game itself and all credit goes to them for that kind of stuff. I will also perhaps use it to explain his backstroy to further character progression if I can. The cover photo was also a picture I found on the internet and if you wish for credit or for me to take it down just say so and i'll do it as fast as possible. I also don't have a set schedule, and this is just being used to improve my grammar and just as a hobby, nothing more. I will also appreciate feedback in regards to grammar, style, and story in general as this is the first time I have created a story apart from at school, hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!
