"How was your night, Lexi?"

Alex looked up from her phone when her father started talking. Her other hand was holding the spoon to her cereal, which she had quickly grabbed in hunger upon returning home this morning.

It was only nine when she arrived back at her house. Upon waking up, Alex had said goodbye to Kim before walking the ten minute journey home. Paul and Jared had come back after the two girls fell asleep, and were in their own slumber on Kim's sofa when Alex had left. The brunette was secretly grateful that she had awoken before them. It wasn't that she was trying to ignore anyone, but Alex was still reasonably unsettled with what went on with Paul and Jared leaving so abruptly. She wasn't sure if she really wanted to know what was going on, the prospect of danger scared Alex.

She got out of there as soon as she could.

Alex shrugged her shoulders while swirling the spoon in her cornflakes. "It was alright. Didn't do much, we just watched movies."

Luke was watching his daughter from over the newspaper. It was a Saturday which was the police man's only day off and he was surprised when he returned home last night to hear from his wife that Alex was staying at a friend's place. He didn't think Alex had been to a sleepover in her entire life, she was much more content with staying at home. "You missed us video chatting with J. He was happy for you, I swear you making friends was all he talked about."

That sounded entirely like her brother. Alex was confused at that concept though, surely Jordan was going out on a Friday night? He had always told Alex that it was his favorite day, the best parties happened on Fridays according to the slightly older twin. With her postponing their telenovella watching session, she figured he would just hang with friends instead. "That's odd. Since when did Jordan not party on a Friday?"

"Maybe Ohio has changed him," Luke pondered over the thought for a second before immediately shaking his head. "Forget I said that, we all know the party can't leave that boy. He was telling us that his training regime is killer, perhaps he was just tired."

Alex hummed in agreement, although she made a mental note to ask her twin brother about the night he spent in. Whereas she barely ever spent a night out, Jordan never spent a night in. "Maybe he ran out of tequila."

Luke shook his head. "Don't talk about underage drinking around me, short stuff. I'm a police man, remember?"

"Like you didn't already know," Alex scoffed at her father, he was the one that gave Jordan a bottle of the hard Mexican liquor for their sixteenth birthday. Some cop.

The older man narrowed his blue eyes at his daughter while smiling. "Touche, Lexi."

The shrill of the doorbell filled the kitchen all of a sudden and before either Luke or Alex could get out of their seats, Camila Santiago was making her way to the front door.

Alex went back to chasing down a few of the cornflakes lazily floating around her milk filled bowl. Her mother came around the kitchen corner with a grin on her face however, her attention directed fully on her daughter. "Alex, someone is at the door for you."

The brunette's mind drew a blank at who it could be, but with the giddiness present on her mother's face Alex was pretty sure they didn't happen to be the same sex as her. A boy most likely. "Get that grin off your face, Mama."

Camila was gripping her husband's shoulders in her hands, the grin not ever leaving her face. "What grin?"

Alex simply stuck her tongue out at her parents, before she made her way to the door. She pushed her glasses so they were secured on her nose and then Alex was standing on her front porch next to a nervous looking Embry Call.

"How do you know where I live?" Alex asked the boy whom she sat next to in history. She didn't mean it seriously, but the brunette was rather curious.

Embry rolled his eyes at the girl who he had to look down on since she was so short. "It's a small community, Alex. We have been over this before."

Alex glared at him jokingly. "My dad is a cop, stalking me would be a terrible idea."

"Why would I want to stalk you? You have told me multiple times that you never leave the house."

"Solid point," Alex let out a short laugh at the accuracy, although had that changed as of recently? "What can I do for you, Embry?"

Embry had seemingly forgotten what he came to ask the smaller girl in the first place until she put him back on topic. His eyes gained a recollection of what he was here for. "Right. I need your help with something."

"That's a very vague statement."

"It's really not that serious, I kind of feel bad for asking actually."

Alex let out a sigh at his dodging of what she was asking him. "The longer you ignore my question, the more suspicious this seems. If it is against the law then count me out."

Embry shook his head at what Alex was insinuating. She was so far off that it wasn't even funny. The boy lifted up a textbook in his hand. "You speak Spanish right? I have a test on Monday worth half my grade, and my ass is about to fail if I don't get some serious help."

Alex's eyebrows raised in surprise at what the skinny boy was asking her. His hair was loosely tied up at the back of his neck today. "I'm really not that good."

"I'm sure you're better than me," Embry tilted his head and jutted his lip out jokingly. "Please, Alex. You don't want me to fail do you?"

"¿Has oído hablar de Google translate?" Alex teased the boy, knowing fully well that probably none of what she said got through minus the two last words. She simply asked if he had ever heard of google translate.

Embry gritted his teeth and rolled his eyes. "I have no idea what you said, I only heard google and translate. I can't use that shitty website, you know it's terrible. You clearly know the language pretty damn well."

"I know a bit," Alex answered modestly. Her mother would be the best person to go do, but then again she was positive that she didn't want Embry being tutored by her mother. That would for sure take a turn to be embarrassing. "Come inside, young padawan. I will teach you the ways of Spanish."

Embry let out a small laugh but entered the home anyway. "You're lame."

Alex shut the door behind her friend once he had entered the house. "Watch your tone, amigo. I'm your only chance at passing this paper."

"Lord, help me."

The brunette pointed accusingly at the textbook in Embry's hand and corrected him using the Spanish translation. "Señor, ayúdame," She said sternly. "Use Spanish only or you will be out the door in a second, understand?"

Embry held his hand up to his forehead in a mock salute. "Sí."

Monday mornings were a drag for anyone and despite Alex Santiago not being opposed to school, she was definitely opposed to Monday mornings.

Embry had given her a ride to school this morning as he was making Alex test him on his newly acquired Spanish vocabulary on the way. He was pretty much shitting himself for the test he had first thing. Alex wasn't angry about this, she was happy to help Embry and at least it gave her an excuse to refuse the ride that Kim had offered her.

Now, she wasn't angry at Kim, Jared or Paul, but the brunette was extremely anxious to find out what truly went down on Friday night. Paul had promised he would tell her, and to his credit he had called her a few times over the weekend but these went ignored by Alex, and the teenager was too nervous to find out. It was serious, she knew that much and Alex wasn't sure if she was ready to hear the full story.

Hence why she had been ignoring the three of them all weekend. Embry's need for an emergency Spanish tutor just gave Alex the perfect excuse to do so without feeling bad.

When she and Embry exited his pick-up truck, Alex was just about to compliment the boy who gave her a ride on his newly found Spanish speaking talent when Alex spotted a familiar boy waiting at the entrance to La Push High.

"I didn't know you came with a welcome party," Embry commented slyly as the pair walked up to where Paul was standing.

Upon seeing Alex hop out of Embry Call's car, Paul's blood started to boil. He had always had a problem with anger and phasing into a wolf made it intensify. Whenever he saw Alex however, he felt so much more calm. Ever since the imprint he was trying to get a hold of his anger –he couldn't live with himself if he hurt Alex, Sam's thoughts about turning and scarring Emily were bad enough.

All that progress Paul had built up seemed to fade at seeing Alex stand close to Embry. She had been ignoring him all weekend, which he understood completely but this he didn't understand. Since when did she hang with Embry Call? He knew in Alex's eyes he had no reason to be jealous, the pair hadn't made much of a romantic relationship yet but that was his soulmate standing with the smaller junior – the person he was destined to spend the rest of his life with. Paul had known of Embry his entire life, just like he did the other people in his year at school but never had the Call boy made his pulse heighten like this.

"You okay?" Embry asked the shorter girl as they walked, she had gone quiet at the sight of Paul. Embry could already feel his harsh gaze baring into him, which was beginning to agitate the Call boy.

Alex nodded but she didn't know if she was. She hoped to ignore the Lahote boy for a little while longer, since the anxiety of figuring out what had the boy so riled up on Friday night was making her stomach twist in knots.

Paul let out a few ragged breaths as Alex stopped in front of him, she no longer cared about the drama at the sight of Paul.

He looked different. His cool demeanor had completely vanished and Alex swore she could see him visibly shaking. "Paul?" The girl's voice was small and unsure. Alex's hand came to rest on his forearm, trying to snap him out of whatever he was thinking.

Alex was stunned at the speed Paul used to move away from her and have his face close to Embry's. His muscular arms were raised and shoved against Embry's chest, knocking the smaller boy on to the concrete instantly.

Embry's body thudded to the ground and it was obvious he was just as shocked as Alex. People who were flocking into the school building all paused to look at the scene erupting. "What the fuck, dude?"

Paul didn't answer Embry's taunt, but simply clenched his jaw as he stood above the boy. All he saw was red and among that Alex being with Embry. He couldn't stand it. Paul had no problem with seeing Alex with Jared, his friend knew the rules of the imprint and wouldn't ever be interested in Alex that way. Embry wasn't educated in this however, despite his Quileute roots.

Alex was on her knees next to her friend in seconds, her hand coming to rest on Embry's shoulder, concerned. The brunette looked up at Paul, who looked like a completely different guy than the one she had grown to like talking to. "What's your problem?"

She turned away from Paul to focus on Embry to see if he was okay. His body had taken quite the thud and Alex knew that Paul was strong. It could have done some serious damage. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Embry stated, his eyes glaring at Paul whom he didn't provoke in the slightest. The boy knew it was about Alex somehow, which he didn't get the jealousy of since all the girl had been doing with him was speaking and teaching Spanish – besides they were friends anyway.

"Come on," Alex spoke to him as she stood up, leaning her hand down for Embry to grab onto. The boy lifted himself off the concrete. "You have to get to your test."

Alex took one look behind her and to her surprise Paul hadn't left. His eyes were seemingly a lot more normal now, rather than the darker shade they had gone they were now back to their usual sparkly brown. He had seemed to calm down, though Alex didn't really care much at this point.

Paul was beginning to realize what he had done in his quick reaction time. Alex looked at him like she wasn't sure who he was, almost as if she was reassessing all the judgments she had previously made. "Alex I–"

"Just leave it, Paul," Alex was quick to shut him down. She didn't know what had just come over the boy, but she didn't like it at all. That wasn't the boy she had just come to know. In fact, his violent outburst had scared Alex.

Alex gripped Embry's arm in her own before she was pulling him to the entrance of the high school and away from Paul's now sorrowful gaze.

The brunette now completely understood why both Embry and Kim described Paul as hotheaded, and Alex didn't like what she saw.
